Eircom NGB roll out date delayed?

I joined Eircom at the end of last year on the 8MB NGB bundle. I knew when joining that NGB had not been rolled out in my area, Blackrock, Co. Louth, yet but I was informed that it would be completed by June 2011. The Eircom NGB website also stated the region would be updated between April - June 2011. We are now at the end of September and NGB is still not available in my area and I am getting 1MB. The NGB website has not been updated with a new date. do any of the eircom reps online know when the upgrade is due?

The website is entirely useless. I remember when I signed up for 8Mb NGB, I had the full 8Mb, but the site said it wasnt rolled out yet.

I've done speed tests on my service and I definitely don't have NGB, I'm lucky if I get 1MB!

    Hi cowsfriend
just to clarify, I confirmed that there would be a delay in the migration of this exchange due to engineering issues on earlier exchanges and that this exchange would be enabled before the year end, not necessarily at year end, we hope to have migration complete sooner than year end..
I have asked for further info and will post as soon as I have a migration date.

    Tony,

You were trying to get the ngb.ie map updated a week or two back.

As there are 40 exchanges left in the program could you get a list of the anticipated go live and migration completion months for them especially seeing as they are all supposed to be done by year end so someone in eircom should know the current situation at this time.

I appreciate that one or two may miss the 31 dec deadline for unforeseen reasons but most should be on track.

Yes true Sponge Bob, this is taking time to resolve:o
I don't have access to an official list of exchanges remaining. I do know that there is no approx go live dates and that exchanges will be migrated around the technicians workload. The weather two weeks ago has placed extra demands on this but it does appear that this issue have been cleared..
I do have a list of the immediate exchanges due for upgrade, if this helps, these dates are planned migration dates and it is possible with any migration that there could be issues which could delay full migration..

    For Oct 05 DSL Enabled

    · Naul

    · Rossnowlagh

    For Sept 30

    . Ringaskiddy

    · Ballignagar

    · Little Island

Hope this is of some help.

The Naul and Rossnowlagh are outlier remnants of the 330 exchange program announced in March 2007 are they not, I doubt if they will be NGB enabled somehow. Nice to see them getting done even if they are 2 years behind in effect.

    Ringaskiddy
    Ballinagar
    Little Island

look like NGB enablements. Ballinagar , BXG is tiny :)

Correct Sponge Bob, my mistake, those two exchange are to be DSL enabled. Thanks. Have made change.

Hi Tony. Are the exchanges marked on the NGB map the only exchanges that Eircom will upgrade? Or are there plans to upgrade other exchanges in the future?

    Hi lockup
The NGB exchange map shows the rollout for this year, I am afraid I have no information at this time on further NGB roll out for following year. I would expect to know more nearer end of year.

    Hi Tony ,

Any word on the Kinnegad Co.Wesmeath exchange?

I was pre-sold the 8mb regular NGB product, But i am stuck on the 3mb chatter package untill then.

The roll out map indicates the exchange will be upgraded between July-Sept 2011.

There is no sign of anything yet with conflicting answers from a host of Eircom employees. No one seems to know anything .

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

    Hi honnaddannoh,

I'll try to check this further, though as above post, we don't have more information on NGB upgrades at this point. Will post here if I get any more information on this exchange.

I had to make a complaint to get an answer Kieran .

Eircom have now told me the upgrade of the Kinnegad Exchange has been pushed back untill the 4th quarter ie- Oct/Dec .

I threatened to bring my business elsewhere unless this commitment is met .

Did you get any other feedback yourself?

    Hi Mark ,

Speedy response from an Eircom official is a breath of fresh air .

I know you say it is on the cards for the end of December , But i have been hearing this same story since July 2010 .

I really hope this is the case.

Really wish Eircom would have the cop-on to update there main coverage map instead of giving so many potential customers wrong information .

Maybe they enjoy digging holes for them selves .

Lucky UPC aren't in the area yet .

    Tired Regards

    Daniel

Hi Guys, just received word from Eircom via Twitter to say that "there is no indication as to if or when the Kinnegad exchange in Westmeath will be NGB enabled. It is not on list which goes as far as June 2012."

This is despite the comment earlier in the thread that it was due for a Dec rollout. :(

I noticed that Tralee has lost it's color coding on the (in)famous map.
Listowel and Killarney have held on to their's (Light blue April-June).
Hopefully it means that something is imminent, not that the upgrade has been flushed.

I got a letter from Eircom in the summer telling me NGB was in my area already. Checked here and knew it was rubbish and my bill nerver changed to reflect it.

My connection has been a bit off recently, turning on/off the router about once a week sorts it out.

    Mark,

This is great news to hear that the Kinnegad exchange is to be upgraded by the end of this month.

Does this exchange cover Killucan, or does a seperate upgrade have to happen there? If so when is that due to take place?

kieranl mentioned that he received notice from Eircom via twitter that the Kinnegad exchange was not due to be upgraded in December. So is the upgrade still going ahead?

    Thanks for the info

got mine "upgraded to NGB during the summer" nothing has changed my internet still runs at 1.5mb at best. so much for 8mb eh.

they upgraded the exchange but never upgraded the phone lines so they cant handle any higher speed. pretty pointless really, getting my hopes up for nothing

Any word on anything faster than 3 mb for Monasterevin Co Kildare?
If i go over 3mb i willl get latcncy and high ping issues with the current offerings from eircom.
A tiny village 4 miles from us has NGB,why ahvent we?, the town next to us Kildare town has up to 24 mb, my brother is on 15 mb there :(
This is just sickening, the population in Monasterevin has gone through the roof yet we have no sign of anything faster.

I spoke to the eircom guy who called to fix a fault in our area a couple of weeks ago and asked him about fibre coming to the town as its listed on the eircom fibre network map here
    http://www.nextgenerationnetwork.ie/eircom-fibre-network

His response was not a hope with eircom,i then asked about NGB and he also said not a hope, so whats going on ?

    Hi Dcully,

I appreciate it is frustrating that you can see network / speed improvements progressing in surrounding areas.

However the fibre roll-out is still in the pilot scheme and at the moment and Wexford and Some areas in south Dublin are the areas rolled out. It will be next year before we have definitive information on on when additional areas will be targeted as part of the fibre scheme.

As I advised before there is no indication as to if or when the Monasterevan exchange in Kildare will be NGB enabled.

I apologise but as soon as we do have any information regarding exchange being enabled and NGB enabled we will post it here on boards.ie

    Thanks, Mark

Thats all well and good but why is Monasterevin listed on the fibre map?

    Thanks for replying.

I would think because its near the train line to Cork and Limerick.
The trains passing by didn't do the fibre a whole lot of good I believe.
I wouldn't get too fussed about it.
I am given to understand that a lot of the fibre that was laid down with such urgency years back wasn't worth the effort.
Still some folks made a bob or two and isn't that all that matters?

haha trains really?? i would be very surprised if that was true. the fibers use light to transmit the signals whereas traditional copper cables use electricity. really dont see how trains can effect them, they seem to cross the oceans no problem what so ever.

Apparently the UK and sending a new transatlantic fiber optic cable across to the US sometime soon, theres the option for a connection to be brought off this into cork which will give much faster internet speeds to the south of the country.
that is of course if the government decide to put the money into it, they would be stupid if they didnt

I know this thread is getting old, so apologies for posting out of turn. I am just on the boundary of Galway City. My broadband is currently blisteringly fast at a hearty 1Mb at best... it is simply driving me potty since all files within my lan transfer at 1000mb on cat6. eircom tell me that fibre is on the way but wont tell me if our line will be up to it. Can anyone tell me how to get past the lack of knowledge in the deplorable eircom sales teams and find out if there is even a hint of a fibre plan for a given area?

Any update on Newcastle West Ant?

Rang eircom today to see can I get a line upgrade from 3mb and girl on the phone said NGB won't be in Newcastle until 2013 at the earliest.

When I asked would up to 24mb be available when it arrives in 2013 and she replied don't waste your money you won't get that speed on NGB.

    Any truth in that?

Lovely girl and fair play to her for the honesty, nothing worse than being lied to and dragged along.
