How long since he competed? Niall that is?
One assumes he is still big as ever?
    Any predictions for the overall?

About 10yrs i think, yep he`s still a monster. Unreal upper body as usual, massive quads, calves have come on a bit but the total package is freaky big and will be shredded as normal for Niall.. Overall depends on judges if they want a mass monster or a symetrically gifted specimen...

Wayne Carney trains in RAW too. He's coming in very well and should have a good shot in the novices

That clip if not mistaken is from Limerick - the time when Shawn Ray was a guest poser?

    I was there.

10 years ago Niall stood out on stage as a Novice iirc.

i laughed at the bit in that video where they're saying "ah no calves, no calves" as if that would matter if he was beating the absolute sh!te out of you!

    i know, i know, it's a bodybuilding competition etc....just funny.

i agree - pity the camera didn't show the culprits and their fancy calves.

Does anyone else think 27.50 is a bit steep for the night show?
    Also whos guest posing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,701 ✭✭✭JJayoo

    Is it Toney Freeman?

    Standard ticket price really

Thought that was at the RIBBF show but could be wrong. I dont remember NABBA getting any decent guest posers in recent years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,701 ✭✭✭JJayoo

    Ya think your right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,800 ✭✭✭The Guvnor

I do feel €27.50 is a lot but then it depends on the venue costs etc.

Ask Niall what weight he thinks he will come in at.

Someone said to me 90-95. I would have thought more like a 100 but could be wrong.

It does not really matter - just curious is all.

Given that this was on yesterday - is there any updates on the results?

Didn't go to the show but heard it wasn't the greatest. Looking forward to seeing pics when someone puts them up

Capacity is under 3000 btw.... well under half that :)

I thought it was a very good show. Very well run.

Hugh won on conditioning, which is pretty much how every class winner was decided. Better mass/shape/genetics was consistently beat by conditioning. To be honest I had Dean (2nd place) winning the overall, he was wider, smaller waist, better legs and destroyed from every back shot, buuuuuuut Hugh was the most conditioned on stage and was rewarded for it.

I thought the guest posers were good too, it's better to have a shredded Tony Mount or Dave Fox than a fat out of shape american pro.

Really gets me fired up to battle it out for 2nd last place in the first timers next year :D

Judged a lot on condition according to a few people, which I thought was unusual as NABBA seems to focus on mass a lot more and RIBBF are more known for conditioning. Dave O'Neil (2nd place on the right) looks a lot bigger than Hugh in the pic, especially in the legs, look twice the size. Obviously hard to judge just on that pic tho

His legs were so much bigger honesty when they both did abs and quads poses there was no comparison, Dave was way ahead. Also, a standing front lateral or rear lateral and calves made hugh look like he didn't train his back hard enough. His torso has a weird shape anyway, his knee cap to his waist to his lateral is almost one straight line to, he just looks like a lump, I can't believe he actually tool the overall to. Very odd judging

I have a few pictures up here: http://s745.photobucket.com/albums/xx98/DunLaoghaireSaint/?start=all
mostly of 1st timers and juniors because my camera ran out of battery :(

I completely agree that the judging was strange this year. They seemed to be focusing completely on symmetry and condition and completely disguarded mass which is strange for NABBA.

The guy who came 2nd in the Juniors was 100% natural which shows you don't have to take steroids to do well in bodybuilding at that level!

Have to agree that the tickets were overpriced, the place was full to capacity 1280 seats I think, anyone who was on the balcony could not see the second guest poser as he went right to the front of the stage which was a bit annoying!

Do the takings for the competition go towards their travel and food costs for the universe?

Yes, the competitors travel costs and all hotel accommodation are payed for by NABBA Ireland. Not to sure about food costs but from what I hear the hotel will supply any food requirements for the day of the show. But I'm not sure if this is to the expense of the competitors or the federation.

Looks like a very strong team, the standard is very high at the uni. Full of mass monsters! Don't think Niall will look out of place there. He was definitely the biggest on stage at the nationals although he only got second.
