Home Remedies That Work

I don't believe in most home remedies, I think they're utter boll0cks. However I'm open to changing my opinion when I see concrete proof. As I did a few years ago.

Specifically, using dandelion juice to get rid of warts. I know it sounds boll0cks, but I saw my gran use it herself. I know she didn't use any medicine; we'd literally stop by the side of the road to pick dandelions for her to use on the wart. And I was amazed to see that it actually worked! Got rid of it for about two years.

Anyone else have any similar stories?

Ya, I use wine and vodka to treat sobriety, apply liberal amounts through ingestion, this always works

the best thing to get rid of a wart is just to cover it with a piece of duct tape for a few weeks, kills it right off.

It didn't work - warts go away by themselves. The fact that it eventually came back means it was lying latent in your system.

Dock leaves get rid of nettle stings. I think everyone knows that one though

There was a series on BBC last year about making your own medecine and stuff, think it was called 'Grow Your Own Drugs'.

If you get hives, instead of scratching it lick your finger and rub it on the hive. Then blamo hive no longer itches and the bump goes away in about an hour.

Spoon of honey for a tickly cough.

Apparently there is an enzyme in there that interacts with nerves in your throat to reduce the urge to cough. It needs to be room temperature though, putting it in tea / boiling water will denature the enzyme (cook it).

Crushed asprin and water gets rid of spots. Oh and Lemon and milk left on your leg for a few minutes and then scrubbed off with a potato covered in salt and then with a wet towel, gets tan out of your pores. (the milk goes sour with the lemon though) ..

The trick with using duct tape to remove warts is that every week you need to take a pumice stone or one of those files that are used to remove callouses and wear the wart down. Leave it to air out for about 12 hours, then put the duct tape on for another week. Should get rid of it in a couple of months.

Apple cider vinegar can make warts disappear in a week, even if they do come back at least they're gone in the meantime!

This isn't really a home remedy but for anyone with kids who gets chewing gum stuck in their hair.....rub mayonaise into the chewing gum and it dissolves, no more cutting the hair off.

yep, I have a cure for the flu

you need a bottle of whisky and a hat

you go to bed and put the hat on the left hand bedpost at the foot of the bed....then you drink the whisky until it moves over to the right hand bed post of its own accord..........when you wake up....no more flu

When ever I get the flu I usually make a big veggie broth with a load of spice in it.

I'm talking loads of chilli's here!

You'll get all the good stuff from the veg and you'll sweat everything else out with the heat.

Definitely agree on the clove oil. I put some on my tooth and it hit off my lip on the way into the back of my mouth and my lip was numb for like a half hour. hahaha

What do you do though if the wart is on your face? Just pretend to be a silver space man for a couple of months?

About three years ago, I developed two warts, one on my left hand and one on my right, within a few weeks of each other. The one on the left disappeared completely in about 18 months, and the second within 5-6 months after that.

If I've read your post right, my warts disappeared in about the same timeframe as your gran's, which probably means that the therapy I used (which was not bought from a shop) was equally effective.

The therapy I used was time. I did nothing, and waited to see if the warts would disappear by themselves.

Hope this helps (though if this suggestion was posted already it probably doesn't add anything to what you know).

Old wives tale if you ask me, whose popularity is due to it having been expressed (unfortunately) by one of the greatest scientists and probably the most influential chemist of the 20th century, Linus Pauling. Even the greats have their flaws.

it's best practice to keep your Vitimin C levels up during illness anyways so even if it's an old wives tale it's a harmless one.

If you have a persistant cough and it is keeping you awake at night, cut two onions in half and place them on a saucer on your bedside locker. I find that this is really helpful. Make sure to dispose of the onions the following morning.
