Thought you meant if we get to the Euro 12 finals :P anyways 50/50 choice but my gut tells me 1st place.

I would genuinely laugh if we topped this group. We' have been rank most of the time, the team Trap picks is one of the worst Irish teams I've ever seen, he gets it so wrong tactically in home games, I have so many criticisms of him, but hey, the bottom line is he would have achieved the mission he is paid to achieve - qualification! That also means vindication.

Trap is doing an amazing job with the utter rubbish we have available for us. He deserves a huge pay rise if he get's us to the Euro's imo.

I'm sure he'll get plenty of latina women supplied to him with the pay rise :D

Hmmm...not really. Doing the same job his predecessors did (bar Stan).

We have been incredibly lucky and team selections have not helped our cause.

If we come 2nd, we get the team who come 1st in the next group, ya?

    I'll say 2nd anyway.

if we finish second sepp will ensure we wont qualify...

it would be a miracle if we finish first, our squad is crap as someone pointed out..

watching Ireland play nowadays is one of the most painful things a grown man can put up with over 90 minutes.

Trap plays utter rubbish over quality players we have at our disposal(We have much better players not getting in teams).Theres a big difference.Hes got damn lucky so far.Given and Dunne are keeping him in a job. This farcical image of him being some kind of tactical genius is nothing but rubbish of the highest order.A huge pay rise???? FFS get real. This man is getting SERIOUSLY overpaid as it is.Jesus fcuckin wept.Big time. What would you give him? 2 mil a year? Thats 38,461euros a WEEK. Hes worth that? Is he? No wonder the countrys a mess.

in all seriousness parkhead , he's doing a better job than neil lennon as a comparison. How he is still in a job i'll never know.

You being smart boy?;).We'll give NL till the end of the season. Then we'll see.Dont count your chickens etc, etc. We could win the quadruple yet(SPL,League Cup,Scottish Cup + Europa League(:o).)Lets not hound him out yet.

wouldnt be hard , thats my point seeing as he has a 50-50 chance of winning the SPL

True. Hes a 50-50 chance of retaining his job.Win the league-stay.Lose to rangers-gone. I admit the SPL is crap but if you put Mourinhio in charge at Celtic with the funds available to NL itd still be 50-50 whether hed win the league or not.Its all about money. And in Scotland theres eff all money. And its getting less and less each year.

Nice one. Nearly forgot about the old hearts finishing 2nd:D.Mcleish is some bluffer.Got Birmingham relegated, and straight into a job at their biggest rivals Villa. What a loyal man. He'll bring Villa down with him too. What idiot at Villa decided that he was the man to bring the glory days back?? Jesus wept.

Would anyone want Trap to stay if Armenia turn us over, out of curiosity?

Imagine the media hype if If Slovakia do manage to beat Russia! The paper and radio coverage would just be mad in the build up. A huge, huge night at the Aviva, knowing it's win or probably bust. Not a snowball's chance in hell Russia will slip up against Andorra in Moscow, would be one of the biggest shocks of all time (dunno why I am even bothered writing this sentence actually :pac:). Slovakia could very much slip up away to Macedonia, but with the prize of a play-off and possible automatic qualification at stake, I would wager they would grind out a win.

Is there any better managers than Trap who would want to take the Ireland job?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,783 ✭✭✭Hank_Jones

It's always about the "if" factor with our team.

We'll be second at best, that's being realistic.

With the way our team has played at times, we probably don't even deserve second.

Also, if my auntie had balls, she would be my uncle.

    Chris Hughton maybe, even Kerr.

At least someone who would have us play football.
Last ditch defending is not a tactic.

I said 'better managers than Trap', neither of that pair are fit to carry his bags in the managerial stakes. And I'm not even exaggerating for dramatic effect. He is literally a multiple of thousands better than they are.

    haha, yeah.

mcleish is one of the most boring managers ever,id rather have the queen mother manage everton than him.

Maybe 20 years ago he was (probably an exaggeration, he was successful 10 years ago).

At this stage he is a senile old man who still can't speak to his players one to one, and that's after 3 and a half years.

    He's the Italian Bobby Robson.

I might change my tune if he shows us some new tactics. :pac:

WTF has Sepp got to do with the UEFA European Championships?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,783 ✭✭✭Hank_Jones

WTF has Sepp got to do with the UEFA European Championships?

They seeded the last WC playoffs.

That was of course after they realised a fair few of the larger footballing nations would be in said playoffs.

It could be said that money became a factor and although there was no mention of seeding before or until towards the end of that qualifying campaign, that Sepp Blatter is a tool.

That you seem to think that Euro 2012 is a FIFA championship that Sepp Blatter has some input into is staggering.

nothing would surprise me with blatter..., be it FIFA or otherwise,

Seeding applies for the playoffs here, decision made at the very start (so no messing around as for the last ones)

We will either top the group or come second. Quite possible we will only need a point from the last game to get the playoff spot. If we have to win it to top the group then I think its possible. The players will be up for it and its a home game.

Trapp despite his tactics, player selection and general negativity is likely to have got us to 2 playoffs min so far. You cant argue with that and in fairness what more did we really suspect? He was never known for playing stylish football but was known for getting results (albeit 1-0, etc)

Gut feeling says play off but topping the group would not surprise me at all. I personally would love to see Dunne, Given, O'Shea, etc getting another or a first go at a major championship

Would be a great experience for the old players to finally get another go at the European Chamopionship finals.

Even if Trapattoni could only bring Ireland to another playoff and fail, that would still equal what Mick McCarthy could do with the team in the same number of campaigns but back when the team had (if you believe what's being said) a much better squad of players and not playing a negative brand of football.

And also, not to be a naysayer because it was fantastic for the country and for me, but it was somewhat fortunate that Ireland qualified in 2002. Yes, there was the fantastic win against the Dutch in Dublin but also luck with the intercontinental playoff thing, which I have not seen the like of since presumably due to UEFA's WC allocation among other things, which saw us beat out a pretty average Iranian side.

Ok, fair enough about the pay rise thing, that's just silly.
But you're taking the proverbial yourself. Who are those quality players at our disposal you're on about? And before you start typing let me remind this is an international competition we're talking about, so maybe you might think about the word 'quality' again.

I think Rory Delap should get a look in (or is he internationally retired?) as he consistently starts for stoke and his long throw-ins would give a new dimension to our game.

Andorra V Ireland - A should win, must win.

Slovakia V Russia - A must win but probably won't for Slovakia

Armenia v Macedonia - Could be a tough call but I expect the Armenians to pull through.
