NUIG Lack of Management

This University apparently has a reputation for being inefficient and there is a wide consensus that no accountability exists within the ranks of NUIG management. I am reminded every day by this when I walk down the corridors at 08:40am:

9 years after changing currency, NUIG (formerly UCG) No Smoking signs are still advertized in Pounds....

Have management been completely asleep or what?

    It does not appear so!

Basically, this is one of the most dysfunctional Universities in Ireland. I wonder what kind of change the government will bring to this in the upcoming budget? Those pay cuts are useless unless they introduce accountability. That way, under-performers can be fired. This would help improve the inadequate services in NUIG.

Is there a lecturer review process here in NUIG? They were trying to bring it in in UL, but it hit a serious stumbling block. It was only voluntarily when I left.

You mean less of 'a chip on the shoulder' than 'a forest on the back.'

Just wondering what exactly are the "inadequate services" being referred to by the op" that's all! - Who exactly (dept. / faculty / college / school / admin / has upset him / her?

How much time and money would you like them to spend changing the signs?
Or they could contend that it means pounds sterling. If they were to charge over 100 pounds' worth of a fine then maybe there'd be an issue...
If that's the only problem you can find with NUIG then I certainly hope they didn't give you a degree.

LOL. I doubt the University would be that crazy to advertize something in a foreign currency. But you would never know these days. Standby! You're missing the entire point. And honestly, I have no agenda or disagreement with anyone advertizing I could care less, but there is a bigger issue which is staring at you in the photos! There is more to this story.

The edge?!?! Why because I told the truth? Should I allow people to be misinformed?

Well, I guess that was the legacy of FF's slavery to the Unions. I think the new Government is soon going to change all that for the better. It only took them 14 years to reach sellout status!!! Thank you!

Section 46 of the Public Health (Tobacco) Act, 2002
as amended by the Public Health (Tobacco)(Amendment) Act, 2004 requires:

“No Smoking” signage to include the name of the occupier/owner in charge and the name of the person to whom a complaint should be made in the event of non-compliance.

Seriously...all Irish colleges are in a fair amount of debt at the moment, with further budget cuts likely. Some out of date signs are the least of their worries.

If you care that much, which you really seem to, report it to the buildings office. I'm sure they'll get their best men on the case.

I'm confused, so if we break some kind of rule will we have to pay in irish pounds? Where will I access this currency?

    Help would be appreciated :(

No, but unlike you I actually read what is reported in the media with regards to how much the uni has squandered, Browne and his gifts, use of private jets, go do a google search

Just because someone does not give a toss about something, does not mean they do not know about it...

Do you really think the university cares about its money?

I know of one person who left because of the grant cuts and here's NUIG buying some fancy electronic bins, new chairs for the concourse, the lobby between the Bialann and the concourse so we don't get wet on our way for a bite and best of all the private jet the president chartered.

They're lovely, but the money could have been better spent.

Personally I'm not bothered about the 'No Smoking' signs but there is definitely a problem in the college.

That will never happen. Only euro-skeptic british people hope the euro collapses. We do not want to peg it back to the British Pound either because we are an independent country. NUIG public sector staff are overpaid and inefficient. I hope the government tackles the waste in this College in the upcoming budget.

The students waste more of the country's money than the staff, through not attending lectures - plenty of my lectures have over the years been below half attendance because they were morning lectures.

And those who say the president chartered an airplane. That was the last one. Not that I'd expect the likes of I love Joan Burton to concern themselves with facts....

I have attended NUIG. Got a 1st class honours as well.;)

When you refer to "the president" in the context of NUIG, it's fair to assume you mean the current one.

Now if you could just manage a debate without resorting to personal attacks...

It was a debate, clearly I thought you picked up i was a student and in my time i could tell the difference between iggy and browne,

Anyway il go back to my 1.1 for the evening as its no longer my uni anyway, and i suggest you do the same

While you're boasting that you got a 1.1 would you care to enlighten us as to what course it was in? It clearly wasn't English...

Only a fool would believe that the lack of a university education implies that someone is an idiot, or vice versa.

I'm terribly sorry to hear that. In that case we shall excuse the arrogant bs you're spouting too.

edit: this was in response to a since removed post by I Love Joan Burton blaming their ill-health for substandard spelling and syntax.

Maybe you should be clear on who it is then?

If you want to use president for every former president of the college, how are we supposed to know whether you're talking about the current lad, iggy, or Patrick Fottrell?
