    Hi guys,

    Starting up a new Xpert 11 league for anyone thats interested. It's like a football manager game but can be picked up very quickly.

    About 3 years ago we set a league up and got a good few teams joining up. This league is still running today with many of the same members, I'm looking to get another one running also (each manager can have up to 4 teams in different leagues at the same time).

    For anyone that doesn't know the game you can read about it here.

    R6Yof5Y70K.jpg

    The link to join the new boards league (xtreme league) is below.

    http://www.xperteleven.com/?lid=272307

    League ID is 272307

    Typically expect to spend maybe 15 mins at the start becoming familar with the site etc. Once the league starts each team plays 2 games every week, and you need only spend about 5 mins twice a week to pick tactics etc for the next match.

    All teams will be created with an equal level of skill to start off with, so a level playing field for all.

    At least 6 are needed but we should get a few more so we can have a few divisions (which division you end up in is completely random)

    Any more info needed just ask...

    EDIT: 15 teams registered so far, I'll leave registration open until the start of October but the sooner you sign up the better, can start playing friendlies against each other!

    Thanks

    We've run it twice over the last few seasons and its always a good laugh, still running the original boards x11 league and boards poker forum league.

    The reason Im starting a new one is that after 7 or 8 seasons the gap begins to widen between the better teams.

    The first few seasons are always very tight though, everyone starts off with a team of equal standard so no one has any advantage. Games are played twice a week so you can simply log in before each match and pick your team. Can put in as much or as little time as you feel is needed.

    Like most games though, very easy to pick up, hard to master :)

    I'll probably join over the weekend for the craic.

    Mind if i give the code to a buddy of mine? He's not on boards but I reckon he'd like this?

    Give the code out to as many as you want, the more teams the better! Think we had 24 originally which was 3 leagues of 8.

    I'll leave registration open prob until the start of October to get as much managers in as possible.

    Will give people a bit of time to get used to the game and make a few signings. Can fit a few friendlies in too which are a good way to get used to the game.

    Cheers lads.

    Good craic if people are active with press releases etc,bit of banter.

    I'd join but my quota is full and dont wanna give up any of my teams, good luck though!

    Do we have to wait until there is at least 6 to start messing round with our teams?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

    Pretty much yeh. See below:

    The following functions will be inactive as long as the league contains less than 6 active teams:

    * Season start
    * Transfers
    * Sponsor activities
    * Friendlies
    * System generated player offers
    * System generated unexpected events

    Same for me

    Excellent game, playing for six years. Very easy to pick up and you don't have to be around 24 hours a day to get results. Then enough detail if you want to spend more time on it and ultimate frustration when you try to master it...because you never will.:pac:

    6 teams so far, will be starting the league probably on Oct 5th.

    Hopefully get enough for a few divisions. As we now have the minimum to start the league, we can start organising friendlies and stuff before the league officially begins.

    To challenge a team to a friendly all you have to do is click into their page and click on the 'challenge team' button. I've already sent an invitation to a lot of the teams, first friendlies are tomorrow morning!

    You can also start trying to buy players now to boost your squad before the start of the season. Have a read through the guides on the transfer market to see how everything works, you'll realise soon enough there's still a fair bit of luck to the transfer market, the agents aren't always honest! Would recommend trying to buy cheap young players 16-18 and trying to train them up over the next few seasons.

    All managers will have 1,000,000 econ to play around with once they log in. This can be used for buying players and training current players. You get this 1m every week, plus a bonus each time you write press releases after games.

    I only had a 150,000 econ or something. I had to do the sponsorship thing to get 1,000,000. I can't find any cheap player in the transfer market.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

    Yeh the sponsorship thing is where you get money from, 1m per week.

    No need to rush in the transfer market, take your time. My advice would be to get a few old players (33+) with high skill (6-8) and young players (16-18) with low skill, 3 or 4 bars. Your squad should try to stay on an average age of 26, as this is when the team performs best.

    No rush buying players though... as you get new players you can get rid of the reeeeeally bad players in your team! For you (Mars bar) this would be the likes of Bowling/Bastock/Wotton etc. You can only sack players when you have more than 18 in your squad though, and you can't have more than 20.

    My team is a bag of sh*te bar one cracking player, I'll definitely need to bring in as much as possible before the season start!

    7 managers in the league, 1 more and we have enough for at least one division. Hopefully get at 2+ divisions (which division you start in is totally random).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,973 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

    I've put a bid on one young lad and have put another fella (Bastock in fact!) up for sale. Just to get a feel for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 395 ✭✭bonescap

    I'll sign up for this later on, sounds like abit of craic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

    Yeh its a good laugh, the more managers we can get in the better. Like I said before the first few season anybody could win any of the leagues. The teams are usually so similar that it all comes down to trying to guess the other teams tactics and getting lucky in the transfer market. Gives managers a few seasons to get used to the game.

    Up to 8 teams now...

    So basically I need to login at least twice a week. Before Saturday and Wednesday to pick a team? What happens if I don't???

    Not even that. You can if you so wish log in once, pick a team for a few matches in advance and not come back for a few games.

    The downside of this is after two games, the team will be rubbish as players might get injured, the form will drop and your team won't develop as much as the others. The more you log in, the better your team generally becomes.

    After the initial clear out of anything like 25/3, 28/4, 22/2 players, you can pick up very cheap unwanted players who are slightly better, 24/6s for example. The training cone and free-kick specialist are the must-haves. Those players are very good and very valuable.

    Yep, pretty much what dfx said above.

    Getting a good free kick taker is vital, 6 bars of skill or above. A good keeper is usually good to have too, you can pick up older keepers with good skill pretty cheap, and hope you get a few seasons out of them before they retire. Some players can retire at 31/32, some can go until 39... another area where luck plays a part!

    RE: logging in twice a week. You should usually log in before a game to set tactics (this can be done anytime before the game kick off), and try to log in after the game to order training for players that are tired/injured. The more time you spend the better but these would be the main times you should log in.

    Best bet is joining now and playing a few friendlies to get the hang of things. The friendly games will run at the same time as the normal league schedule (Saturdays + Wednesdays)

    Anyone needs a help with anything just post in this thread. There's still a good few posters who play the game regularly and can offer advice.

    11 teams so far.

    In one private league I am in, the admin had a player retire at 16 years old :eek:

    Players - very rarely - can also "die" :D

    wtf, thought they had to be at least 30! And I've never had a player die. F**k you'd go nuts if it was a 20/8 player haha

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,721 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

    Yeah, anyone can retire at any time, but once they hit 30, the probability increases exponentially then every season.

    I've had 28/12 hard trainers sod off:mad:

    Just registered there...league admin needs to approve. Hope can start soon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

    I haven't had the misfortune yet, think my youngest to retire was about 31 :)

    14 teams now from 4 different countries, should get at least 2 divisions at this rate.

    Team accepted. First friendlies are scheduled for tomorrow morning so there should still be time to organise one with another team. Simply go to their page (top tab - 'xtreme league' -> 'members') and click on the button on the right hand side 'Challenge Team'.

    how important is skill compared with form?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

    Skill is much, much more important - form is only temporary... you train your players each week and the form rises but their skill will only change at the end of each season (in the Change Report).

    Younger players should usually go up 1 bar a season, if you are very lucky they can go up 2 bars if you played them a lot and ensured they were fit all season (this is rare though). As players age their skill rises slower, and once they hit over 31/32 you are only trying to keep them in good enough form so they can play games and not lose a skill bar at the end of the season.

    Most of your money will be spent trying to bring in youth players and train/improve them. You do this through buying players and your own youth academy, which offers you a player on average every 30 days. This can be an amazing 16 year old wonder kid, or more often than not a sack of sh*t :)

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,721 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

    Skill and form are linked. I've read that 7 form bars is equivalent to one skill bar. It's normally better to go for the higher skill player.

    So if you have two players:

    One five skill and on form 7
    One four skill but on form 15

    Both players have an equal chance of playing as well as the other. The higher the form the better the player will play in the short term. If there's a difference of only 3 form bars, then always go with skill.

    See there's lots of details that you pick up :pac:

    this game is requiring too much thinking after arthurs day! :P

    so hard to pick my first team but looking forward to see how it works out after a couple of friendlies

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

    Don't over think it, sort out a friendly and pick a team which looks best. You'll figure it out as you go along, Im playing it a few years and still wouldn't be much use :)

    Was Arthurs Day yesterday? There are times I miss living in Ireland...

    Is this league is an xpert league?

    Can I also join the xpert ladies league or can I only be in one league at a time?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,721 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

    No, it's not an official 'Xpert League'. The ladies' league isn't either, it's classed as a private league. :)

    A new member can have one private league and one official Xpert League team. After two months, you can have an extra private league team and then apply for the Ladies League. The ladies' league is tough as there's a lot less players available so you get stuck with the poor players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,973 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

    Oh right, this league and the ladies league are both private leagues so I can't enter the ladies one anyway. Not too bothered either way. I'll wait for the 2 months.

    Thank you! :)

    Epic 3-2 win for me. Was 2-0 down and all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

    Yeh saw that, good comeback! You've some pretty strong strikers so should bang in a few goals this season.

    15 teams in the league now, another 1 and we have enough for 2 division. Still going to leave registration open until the end of the month though. Three divisions would be good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,656 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

    I changed my team this morning but it was different to one that played. Have one or two better mids coming in now.

    My first game isn't until the 28th! Brought in a new keeper and another midfielder. That should be it until next week anyway.

    Yrah was an even game. The real business starts soon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,973 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

    I have been given an official team in a classic league, is there any way I can resign from that job? Don't wanna be looking after two teams.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

    Yeh you can definitely do it, I've seen managers with no xpert team before. If you go to 'Team Settings' you can usually resign from the team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

    Another new manager onboard, so 20 teams now. Only 4 places left in this, will close registration and start the league as soon as we get to 3 divisons.

    Once the league has started I can't allow any more teams in, so if you are holding off on creating a team then I wouldn't wait too long...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,600 ✭✭✭roryc

    23 teams now so ONE space left and we have enough for three divisions of 8 teams each.
