for those of us in our 30s, today could be a very significant day.
while REM have announced their break up, the company that makes wham bars has gone into administration.

those wham bars extracted most of my baby teeth themselves.

Highland Toffee and Wham Bar maker goes into administration
    Marketing / UK
New McCowans, the makers of Highland Toffee, has gone into administration.

The company, which employs over 100 people, appointed administrator Grant Thornton last Friday.

As well as Highland Toffee, the company also produced Wham bars, Pan Drops and Bonbons.

The company was founded in the late 19th century and was sold to Nestle in the 1960’s. It underwent two other acquisitions, most recently through two management buy outs in the last decade.

First piece of good news all day. (REM breaking up that is)

I will mourn for the Wham bars!

LOVED Wham bars. And Dan bars and Stingers. I was led to believe that Stingers gave you cancer. That made them more tasty

I'm sure there's a name for this phenomenon, but I haven't wanted a Wham bar in years and right now I want nothing more :(

My delight at the end of those ***** REM has been somewhat ruined by this Wham Bar news.

    Go! Go! Go!

I'll miss you Highland Toffee. You were so much better than Wham Bars, but not nearly as good as Roy of the Rovers.

The black sugar pieces in Dan bars were also a cause of cancer. :)

Does going into administration necessarily mean stopping production though?

not necessarily, but more than likely. even if they are bought, there'll be changes made, like when walkers bought monster munch, and made them smaller and started dicking about with the flavour. tayto eventually copped on and brought out mighty munch after a while.

    Wham Bars
    Desperate Dan Bars
    Roy Of The Rovers Bars
    Stinger Bars

All fooking lovely. I actually bought two Stinger bars last weekend, oh the minutes of chewing on them I had were a throw back!

I'll miss the Wham Bars and I'll kinda miss R.E.M. too :(

Must say to lose Wham bars would be sad, but to lose Roy of the Rovers would be a tragedy

I'm trying to remember what a Wham Bar was and I can't envisage it. I remember Desperate Dan Bars though. I'm almost certain there was a Dennis The Menace Bar too. I could be imagining things but I remember getting a free one with a copy of The Beano comic.

Pink chewy bar with multi-coloured "space rocks" in it (similar to Dan Bar's boulders).

    om nyom nyom

Dennis the Menace bar was 2-tone (one flavour per side) - raspberry & blackcurrant

Wham Bars? Meh. If they stopped making Moro's now I'd be seriously upset. King of bars.

Whole different category of bars there mate: if it's chocolate and costs(ed) more than 10p it's a completely different kettle of fish

Gargoyle bars. Now they were a sugary retro masterpiece.

I shouldn't post, I knew neither band nor bar and I had children who possibly should, but don't.

But it's always sad, you'll find as you grow older, nothing ever actually replaces the bands or bars you've loved.

I have more or less given up chocolate because one of my favourites as a schoolboy disappeared ~ I've been on a holy grail of chocolate hunting since, but I've never found a GOOD substitute ~ some come close, but ..

When I was a child, my dad used to make a water slide for me and my friends in my back garden on hot sunny days. He used to tie the hose to the top of our slide and put a paddling pool at the bottom. If we got a couple of weeks of sunshine, the water slide would still be running all day every day till we got tired of it or it rained. kids nowdays are never going be able to do stuff like that because of the water charges.
