Superquinn sausages - what's the big deal?

People are almost evangelical about Superquinn sausages. I’ve had several requests to bring them when visiting friends abroad, when Superquinn were in trouble recently, people were more worried about their sausages than jobs being lost.

I don’t get the hype. Don’t get me wrong, they’re alright sausages, but even compared to cheap old Kearns’ sausages, they’re bland. I can't be the only one to see them as the Emperors New Clothes of breakfast scran.

not only do i not get what people like about them, i actually don't like them at all. Countrystyle sausages are the best, but can't get them anywhere but home. :(

They're the best available in supermarkets, local butchers are the way to go though, much better in my opinion.

They are fairly nice I suppose. Dont get the hype. Kearns and Olhausen are nicer.

You can get some pretty amazing sausages these days. The Aldi specially selected garlic and herb/chilli ones are great.

There's just not much taste off them. Kearn's might be slightly over-spiced but at least there's a real flavour to them. With Superquinn sausages you might as well be eating Denny, they're that bland.

    They're great. I'd have sex with one if I could...wait a minute!

I thinks its a hangover from the bad old days when all food here was ****e, anything with the least bit of flavour was treated with amazement.

I haven't had Superquinn sausages in years so forget what they taste like. I did just have Tesco Finest garlic and basil sausages and they were fecking delicious.

Bread, gouda cheese, grilled onions, sausages, ketchup and some fresh rocket. Yum.

I love venison sausages my Dad's mate gets for us. The GF got lamb ones from a Muslim place, feckin delish man!

First they came for the socialists...

Used to love them years and years ago (almost 10 I'd say), but gradually moved away from them.

Tasted one recently enough and they are rank!
    Way way way too salty.

I think its a case of not knowing any better tbh.

Marks and Spencers do great venison sausages, usually two packets for €6 too.

As you get older your taste senses change at a biological level - the sausages are probably still the same but your taste buds due to growing years, dies off a bit.
    Yes, its a bummer! :(

Super furry you are just not nice. that is all. You have slated the superquinn sausie. You have shown no remorse. You are soooooo not a nice person :(

I hadn't had them in years until recently, when I had them at the OHs place. Sweet baby jesus I'd forgotten how utterly amazing they are. They get just the right amount of crispy, and they're soooo juicey.....dammit, not I want some....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,828 ✭✭✭bullvine

So overated, the way some people go on about them, think there was booze in them. They dont have any real flavour. They even have a funny texture. The olhausen and granby ones are nice, and I am a fan of the clonakilty ones. I find Hicks in Dun Laoghaire a little too spicy but the Hicks in Sallynoggin just up the road, no longer there unfortunately are the stuff of legend, the only ones that come close are the Tesco Finest. If you have the knack you could fry them in a way that hard crispy bits form on the outside. World Class!

if you want a spicey tasty sausage Rudds is the only way to go

If they sold bags of seasoned baby sh*te in superquinn, some people who buy them and boast about it.

I was fine, just fine till this thread - I've been off the superquinn sausages for, oh over a year now - I went cold turkey (yuk, but worked) - and now.... now I need to find the nearest Superquinn - dammit I was doing so well :(

There's a butchers in crumlin, the auld dears call it the meat shop, (not sure if that's it's name or it's just what they call it, old bitches be crazy and all that!) They do the nicest sausages in the world, after that there's dunnes own brand (not the simply better ones, which just taste like salt) olhausens and kearns, all in no particular order.
Superquinn sausages are nothing to write home about at all, i wouldn't even say they're top ten.

Aldi garlic and herb sausies are the best.

Never got the hype over the superquinn sausage. Never understood the hype about the entire supermarket in general and I've shopped there in the past.
