Hi, Basically my friend has CCTV footage and its a .264 file and he needs to know how to convert it or make it openable in VLC player or the likes.

Tried google and anything it said failed such as chaning it to.h264 etc.

    Much appreciation for any help.

Have you tried opening them with VLC. If the file format is one that VLC can play (there are not many media file types it can't), then it will play it regardless of the file extension.

I just changed an .mp3 file to .264 opened it using VLC and it is playing as I type.

When you right clicked on the file chose open then when you got the prompt Windows cannot open this file type you chose select from list and then chose VLC what did VLC do.
