Think the recent race was the National Half marathon and this is the Waterford half marathon. Seems like the same route.

This one is held every year the one that was on recently was the AAI National championships which changes venue every year. This one from the reports I get every year is one of the best value for money and well organised halves in the country. It is one that is strongly making me consider moving back up in distance to give it a stab

Coming back for this, really enjoyed it last year. But the big risk is the weather.

Yes,its the same route folks but last year was postponed until Jan 15th due to inclement weather (thats an understatement)
but the club did offer a refund if the new date didnt suit

Or a free entry to this years race :) I'm hoping to make it down. Will be either a PB attempt or a handy run followed by many many many pints. Having said that if I PB I will be following the many pints route also :D

Did it last year, or rather this year, and it was a great day. Worth the trip.

Good job they postponed it and got the good weather. :D

Is this a flat course? Might step up to this distance from 10ks, but would prefer a nice flat course for my first HM!

Relatively. There are 3(I think) hills in it, nothing too taxing.

Plan to get back down the Senior XC is the week before was always a risk they could've clashed.

Yep fairly flat, I just remember one big hill last yea at about mile 5 where you start the loop to turn around. It was fairly hard core last year with the wind and the rain. Felt great after it. Will probably sign up for it, hope this December is better than last...

Don't you mean this year? :D

I did my first Waterford half in Jan (postponed from Dec). It's essentially an out and back so the rain and strong wind was tough for the first 11k, but the whole way back it felt much better. Really enjoyed it, despite spraining my ankle 4k from the finish line.

This will be my final race of 2011 and looking forward to it ( great price as well )

Once I manage to get past this marathon I will be putting my name down for this. Best race off the year, and value for money. Plus get a good night on the beer afterwards

I really hope to do this one, was very disappointed to be injured for it last year, and I've already missed two halfs I wanted to do this year.

Been hmming and hawing about this for the last few weeks but I have decided to hop in. Will be my first Half to actually race in Ireland and only my second to properly race ever.

Time to get the lead out with training though:D

Entries are being taken for the Waterford AC Half Marathon which is on December 10th at 12 noon. The race starts outside Woodies DIY store on the Cork rd and is a good fast flat course which after a 2 mile city route goes out toward Tramore and back in the main road finishing on the track at the RSC. It is the same course used for the National Half marathon held in September. Lots of Parking and Showers at the RSC with Refreshments and Prize giving at the Kingsfisher Leisure centre after. This race is not suitable for walkers as the course will only be stewarded for 3 hrs.
Entry fee €22 on line at www.runireland.com
    €30 on the day

Paid the price for chasing a time too fast for me in the Dublin half so i'm aiming for a more modest target this time around.

I've been out since two weeks before the marathon and I'm still unable to run due to hamstring issues. Hopefully will be ok next week, hence no target time. It will be nice to run for fun again!

i hope to be running this and was wondering what chance there is of a good time. I ran 1:32:30 in the dublin half but was in the middle of marathon training and didn't tapper for it. In saying that it is my PB for that distance.

Is this a hard course compared to the dublin half?

Defo no way I'll hit a sub 75 after Dublin, I'll have to stay away from you speedy boys in the first couple of miles otherwise I'll crash and burn but the pints afterwards, I'll hold my own there;)

Taken the liberty of sorting by target.

This is my first half, but McMillan/Daniels says I can do 1:25/1:24 based on my 5k time or 1:28 based on my 10k. So who am I to argue with the great men? Only running 3.5 hrs per week though, including 1 hour of 5-a-side, hoping my swimming and biking crosses over. So might be closer to 1:40 than 1:30

Haven't really been worried about a target for this apart from trying to improve on last year. Been taking it pretty easy since the Berlin marathon & have gained a few kg :o so will be interesting to see how it goes in Dec.

You finish 14 mins ahead of me in Berlin and you set a half target 5 mins slower than mine? Get out of that and set a real target :D
