    Nagle Back In Munster Squad
    20 September 2011, 1:18 pm
    By The Editor

Munster travel to Cardiff City Stadium on Friday evening for round 4 of the RaboDirect PRO12 where they take on Cardiff Blues at 7.05pm.

Training in their respective centres today, the squad will assemble in Cork tomorrow for their final session before departing from Shannon on Thursday afternoon.

As expected both Danny Barnes and Ian Nagle have been included in the Munster squad.

The matchday 23 will be named at noon on Thursday.

    Munster Squad:
    J Murphy, S Deasy, D Howlett, S Zebo, D Hurley,
    T Gleeson, D Barnes, L Mafi,
    I Keatley,
    D Williams, P Stringer,

M Horan, S Archer, BJ Botha, W du Preez, J Hayes,
    D Fogarty, M Sherry,
    D Foley, I Nagle, M O'Driscoll, B Holland,
    P O'Mahony, N Ronan, J Coughlan, T O'Donnell.

    http://www.munsterrugby.ie/news/9429.php

    I'd like to see:
    du Preez, Sherry, Botha, Foley, Micko, O'Mahony, O'Donnell, Coughlan;
Williams, Keatley, Zebo, Mafi, Barnes, Howlett, Murphy

Bench: Fogarty, Horan, Hayes, Nagle, Ronan, Stringer, Deasy, Hurley

Foley looked good last week so he should get another run. 20-30 minutes for Nagle off the bench.

TOD made a decent impact off the bench and should get a start. That said Ronan has been playing well at 7, Pro12 is his level.
I'd like to see Williams get a start too.

This is will be a tricky game, Cardiff will be no pushover on their home turf.

I'm happy to TOD, Archer, Barnes and Williams start. Bit disappointing for Gleeson, he seems to do fine when he plays but never gets a chance to string a few games together.

So it looks like Johne Murphy will the full back until Jones comes back.

Botha out from the original squad, I suppose that's to keep a spot for Hayes and Ryan in to subs bench.

This will be a big test for us but with Cardiff having som many injuries they may there for the taking or is that wishful thinking.

I'd be more inclined to say he's injured yet again. If he's fit he starts and Hayes is on the bench.

This will be a good litmus test of where we're at, 3 good wins so far but against fairly average opposition. Think we'll win by 2 scores.

Like what McGahan is doing with the selections this year, he's creating plenty of competition amongst the players and you can see the hunger in the subs when they come on.

    +1.

Anyone know why Zebo isn't in the 22? That said, I thought Gleeson was decent last week.

I think if Zebo is fit, he should start. Hurley is decent enough but I think Zebo has much more potential and should be given a chance to start regularly now. I mean...Hurley's never going to challenge for a place in the Irish team, there is a possibility Zebo might if he gets to a certain standard and gametime will help.

Good to see TOD and Archer start too.

Probably because its a 5/3 split on the bench and Zebo can only play wing (afaik)

True but I'd rate Zebo ahead of Hurley and would personally start Zebo.

Not for Munster at this stage but I know he has played centre for Con on several occasions at both inside and outside.

Absolutely agree but you can guess what type of game we're going to play.
    A back line of J Murphy; D Howlett, D Barnes, L Mafi, D Hurley, I Keatley, D Williams = physical

I think he's spot on, you don't want to play fast and lose against Cardiff hence no room for the more delect flowers like Stringer,Gleeson and Zebo ;)

Bump. Nice to be watching a live game at a daycent hour of the day.

    G'wan Munster!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

That was dumb from Coughlan. That should have been kicked 50m.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,599 ✭✭✭✭CIARAN_BOYLE

very good kick from Keatley there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

Pen from near halfway from Keatley.

    0-3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

Kickable penalty given away but that was great defence by Munster for 20+ phases, Cardiff were recycling and recycling but went nowhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

Let off again, 2nd poor miss from Sweeney.

Should have been a penalty for Munster for jumping the tackle.

Can you really call it great defense if you don't manage to force a turnover despite having 20+ chances. Yeah I know I'm stirring.

Munster are pretty lucky that Sweeney doesn't have his kicking boots on

    Try?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,599 ✭✭✭✭CIARAN_BOYLE

I wouldn't like to be a TMO over in Cardiff today

    EDIT no try

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,207 ✭✭✭durkadurka

I'm sure that was a try

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

Fantastic tackle from Hurley, no try.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,599 ✭✭✭✭CIARAN_BOYLE

TMO is busy tonight. I don't think this is a try

    edit just short Cardiff scrum

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,264 ✭✭✭✭Fireball07

Good last gasp stops from Munster but a bit sloppy so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

Dunno how we're still ahead, we've barely had the ball or territory.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,264 ✭✭✭✭Fireball07

3-3, a score has been coming. Relatively lucky, I suppose.

But we haven't been in the game.

The Munster Scrum and a Keatley penalty brings the score to 6-3

Good scrum that led to that penalty 6-3 Munster, Keatley strokes over the penalty, difficult angle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,264 ✭✭✭✭Fireball07

That was a lovely kick, and it was going straight over the minute he kicked it.

Hurley putting in some big kicks and looking good on the wing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,264 ✭✭✭✭Fireball07

I dunno about the ref tbh... doesn't seem to be very clear.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Regional South Moderators Posts: 15,247 Mod ✭✭✭✭rebel girl 15

Ref got a thump of a ball there for his troubles!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,592 ✭✭✭GerM

Cardiff doing themselves no favours mouthing at the referee. Although the penalty reversal was harsh I thought. That wasn't a stamp at all, it was just a bit of decent rucking a player on the wrong side. Thomas should have been more careful though and can't complain.

Coughlan off, big loss for Munster. Have massive amount of time for Coughlan.

    Coughlan off, Ronan on

boy do we need him now in the sportsground, if we had a place kicker against the gunners we could be 3 from 3!

    9-3 now, Keatley penalty

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006
