    Any one a member there?

What do you think of what they have done over the last week or two? And the loss of all the PT with the exception of the D4 fitness trainers?

Think I'll be leaving. Any one got any good gyms in Dublin 4 or Dublin 18?

Can you specify what facilities, equipment, classes, coaching (if any) you require?
And what level of budget you had in mind?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 23,243 Mod ✭✭✭✭godtabh

It would be a copy of what is in ballsbridge in terms of equipment ie free weights, resistance machines, treadmills, mats, balls, pool (not high in importance), steam room/sauna.

Classes spinning but again not high on importance

Crunch UCD would cover those bases and Swan Leisure in D6.
David Lloyd's in Clonskeagh could be an option if price isn't too much of an issue for you.

In D18 you could hang on for Ben Dunne's new place in Sandyford.

ben dunne isnt open until December according to their website.

I am going to westwood at the weekend to check it out. If you can get it they do a very good off peak rate similar to ballsbridge

Ah right. I've never been in Westwood.
    Hope it suits.

none are ideal. ballsbridge is very handy as I work around the corner from it but the place is gone to sh!t

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 172 ✭✭diegowhite

It's gotten seriously cramped in there and the whole vibe of the place has gotten worse in the last few weeks. I'll stay with it cos it's still quiet enough at lunch and it's one minute from my office, otherwise I wouldn't be there.

I used to be a member there and from what I saw, the loss of the majority of their PTs won't be a big one. Only one of them seemed competent tbh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,299 ✭✭✭paulmclaughlin

    What happened all the PT's?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 23,243 Mod ✭✭✭✭godtabh

They introduced a three strikes and your out policy and then made up 3 strikes for a few of them.

The ones they couldn't catch out were given a weeks notice to go.

They have reintroduced D4 Fitness there under the Energie Fitness brand.

    What was a strike?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 23,243 Mod ✭✭✭✭godtabh

Lots of different things. All rumours but some confirmed by the PT such as discussing other gyms, supplements not stocked by them etc.

Some other ones I won't go into here

Are these guys taking a first month membership and joining fee before the gyms even completed? Genius stroke if so.

You've already paid for advertising on Boards.
Why do you still bother?

He's a personal friend of Jackie's apparently, it's in his altruisitc nature to help out a friend in need. Jackie if you're reading this you might want to spend a bit more on your advertising services, this stuff just annoys people.

Oh and maybe get some new friends too.

Is it wrong that I read this with Ben Dunne's voice in my head? :pac:

this is disappointing to read.. im a member in energie BB but havent been in a month because i broke my ankle. Has it really gone that bad? I still don't get why the PT's were sacked??

    Anyone any more details?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 23,243 Mod ✭✭✭✭godtabh

Having read more into it it looks like all the gyms in the chain are now run as franchises. I dont think this was the case before (maybe it was) but a new set of managers/people have come in with their own people and got rid of the old people.

I'm not happy. I was in this morning doing stretches and one of the instructors took the mat I was using in to the private studio for what appeared to be a yoga class. Didnt even ask just took.

All the "good" medicine balls, small free weights, mats etc are in the private studio now which is looked when not in use.

Dont think it is worth it any more even though it is super handy for me.

Sorry about the obvious shill . I had blinkers on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 172 ✭✭diegowhite

godtabh, we don't have these issues at lunch, all the studios are open and my mate uses the bag in there no problems, maybe it's different in the morn.

From what I heard from one of the PTs who was kicked, a few of them got together and made a deal to brand the personal training and have exclusive rights to train members, the rest were told they were no longer able to work there.

A couple gyms are being setup in the Sandymount/Ballsbridge area over the next month or two. These will be smaller core gyms (without the fancy bits) and I'm not sure if they will be exclusive to personal training yet, but should be an improvement over energie

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 23,243 Mod ✭✭✭✭godtabh

The new private studio on the right that is on the old resistance area is locked all the time as far as i am aware.

the spin studio and the aerobic studio aren't locked. Yet.

    Hi
I live in the area and only because of the handy location i was considering joining Energie Fitness in Ballsbridge this week! Really will be doing my own thing as in weights, rowing, running and swimming.
What has happened over the last week or two and would you recommend this gym ? Is it always very busy in the evenings and weekendd?
I have been quoted a 'special offer' price of €595 for the year - is this about right. I'm going to try haggle this down though !
    All advise and replies appreciated

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 172 ✭✭diegowhite

You should be able to get a day pass for free, try it out at the time of day you plan using it. You'll know whether it's right for you at that point. I think average membership is 55 a month plus or minus 10

Hi think its unfair that you are blaming the loss of freelance personal trainers on the so called D4 trainers. I am a member there and to be honest the personal trainers who were here before were very rude and not very good . the personal trainers there now are not d4 trainers , énergie has taken in thereown pt's as like westwood done 2 years ago , and this has improved the quality of service tenfold . I have personally used the new trainers and find them fabulous at what they do and they even go that extra mile to help the members so guys its unfair to be criticising people who are there for our benefit.

hi i am a memeber there and it is a fantastic gym with really helpful staff , people are just being nasty because they had friendships with the old personal trainers

i am a memebr of energie fitness in ballsbridge and i ahve to say the new personal training studio is great as not all gym members like to have everybody watching them while training with a trainer and i think its fantastic the way they have taught of this ..
    well done guys

I've personally been injured through poor advice from one of the D4 fitness team. I did my back in while been given poor instruction in how to do an exercise.

The only thing that benefits is the pockets of D4 fitness.

Is that you Patrick? Or is it Debbie? Or maybe Chris?

OP never blamed anyone on the loss of trainers...

I used to be a member there and the trainers were all sound as fuck. Useless bar 2 of them though, yes.

No offense but if I have a euro in my bank account and increase it tenfold, I still can't afford to bring my bird to the cinema. Being slightly less shite than before is no real improvement.

It's a crap excuse for a gym and I wasn't friends with anyone there except one fellow lifter.

Sorry to pick that apart, you just seem to have a little more than a personal interest in the gym...
