Question about programme

Recently joined a gym in my area after a year off from serious exercise (pregnancy/baby). Ive lost 1 stone over the summer from dieting alone but Im in serious need of losing at least another 1.5 stone.

One of the instructors did a programme for me which Ive been following for the last two weeks. Theres plenty of upper body work going on but the only leg work is using the adductor and abductor machines. Is this enough? I vaguely remember an instructor in another gym telling me that using the leg curl and extension machines were "quick wins" as building up the muscles there is great for fat burning. Is this right?

Also, I dont seem to have shifted a pound since starting this new regime despite going 4/5 times a week and spending an hour there. Am I doing something wrong or should I just be patient and keep the faith :D ?

Sorry, lots of questions there, Im just finding it really hard shifting this baby weight and its getting me down :(

    Any advice welcome

    In short: no.

The abductor and adductor machines are only isolating groups of muscle and really won't do much at all for your overall strength or for helping you to tone up.

Girls, just like guys, can and should squat (injuries notwithstanding) and/ or lunge at the very least. The squat involves using a huge number of different muscles in your body so you get an awful lot more energy-expenditure than you would sitting at a machine.

You can start off pretty gently just doing bodyweight squats, then holding a medicine ball and work your way up to using a bar.

If you aren't shifting weight though the first thing I'd look at is your diet. You said you already lost 1 stone (well done :) ) but it's only been two weeks since you started the new regime so don't fret too much.

One thing that some people forget is that as your weight goes down, so must your calories. You would need to be eating less now than you were 1 stone heavier in order to keep losing weight.

here is a whole range of movements you can do (as long as no major injuries) to get started -

Covers everything you need and most can be done from home with little to no equipment.

Just had a text from one of three clients I am currently working with (they have all trained throughout the pregnancy) that are pregnant and she had a baby boy today - she will restart by doing much of the above in the next few weeks so get started asap.

    All the best
