Are you a spender or a saver?

Definitely a saver, for me the luxury I value the most is financial security.

    I do both.

Definitely a saver, although I dedicate and small fraction of my savings for random spending (boozing or a new computer or whatever).

    I am a saver,
I save to spend rather then borrow to spend.

Spender, sometimes even of my own money.

If you ain't got it you can't save it. Its hand to mouth in this country for a while!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,010 ✭✭✭ringadingding

A spender unfortunately , I wish I had saving will power, but any cash I get , expected or unexpected is spent.
I am generous with family though, but I'm regretting it now as Im at an age now where I should have savings, but don't :-(

For me, I am a spender. Which is foolish. Really should start saving.

I like to save up a bit of money and then spend it unwisely.

So I guess you could say I'm a spendsaver.

    Spender.

Spend it fúcking all. I like nice things. Good job Her Indoors is a saver though. Like spending her money too.

:( I broke at the minute though.

I save but i spend on other people. I find it easier to spend money on friends and family than i do on myself for some reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,674 ✭✭✭Faith+1

    Save when I can.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,041 ✭✭✭cocoshovel

Saver. I try and save all my money all year long, then blow it on something big. Repeat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 294 ✭✭Bride2012

Wasted many years as a spender and now saving like mad for my wedding next year. I hope to find a nice mid way point after that.

Spender!!! Fuck me; I could drop dead tonight. Then what good's all that money I scrimped, saved and suffered to keep in the bank, making Those bastards more money for themselves on?

I once bought low, sold high. Wandered into the bank and handed them a check for £10'sK. Cashier nearly wet herself at the sight of it. Told me to wait there and, before I knew it, I'm being deferentially ushered into some room!

Then, in comes some wet behind the ears little prick, barely in his twenties. Taps a lap top. Sneers; " Oh ..... But, I see from your History, Mr Shitter, that you'll just spend this money ..... "

 Er, Yes, son. I've worked my fucking arse off for far more years than you've breathed. I've dreamed of certain things I'd love to have. Which would make me happy for the rest of my life. Now I have the money? I'll fucking Buy them!

Skint again now, of course :) Always have been. Always will be. But, I have some cool things around me. Things that make my life more endurable.

Far rather that than having a small fortune stuck in a bank, making Those scum more money, while I still lived hand to mouth, but without the things I bought which make me happy.

If banks didn't exist? Hardly anyone would save Hoard money.

    Saver.

Why waste it on something you'll lose interest in soon enough anyway?

I disagree. I much prefer knowing the money is there. Give me a computer, a fridge, a microwave and a toilet and I'll just save everything else.

Games or big TVs or whatever mean nothing to me, and the money just means security should I ever need it (or should I ever decide to pack up and go).

Yeah, I hate paying the interest, total robbery, I feel I am giving someone money for nothing.

I know that is not true but in the end its the cheaper option.

Actually I save kinda, save 400 per month and have a family holiday every 6 months.
    Just habit now.

Don't have one cent in debt though

You never know what you are going to enjoy, try as much as you can you only live once.

I'd have to go with Spender tbh. I love music so I find myself buying a few new albums everytime I go to the shops. Also when I get a bit of money in my hands, I get a few games, books or dvds. I'm just so terrible with money:o.

I'm a spender. I guess I do save a little but nowhere near as much as I should. As the saying goes, "I can resist anything but temptation".

    Saver.

    *calculates all net assets tap-tap-tap*

    Yes, a saver.

Was a spender, now a saver in my current circumstances. Would like to go back to being a spender soon, but with a bit more cop-on :)

Saver too. I do buy nice things now and again but I definitely fall into the 'consistent saver' category. Starting to think this may be a failing of mine cos spenders get all the sympathy in this country.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 491 ✭✭buswankers

I think I'd most definitely be a spender....I do save a little but nowhere near as much as I should....dont hit the shops that often - but internet shopping is a serious downfall of mine! Should not be let near ASOS when hungover!!

    <to be said in an Eddie-Hobbs-esque voice>

    First rule of personal finance.
Save 10% of all you earn* and live off the remaining 90%.
    You'll always have money then.
Living within your means and all that jazz.

*Even if you're on the dole (18.60 per week gives you €967.20 a year like)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,420 ✭✭✭Lollipops23

I usually try and put away a good chunk of money every few months- some months the different occasions add up and make it impossible to put anything away (and this month is a very long one). I try to write down my bills for the month-rent, credit card etc and then figure out how much I can comfortably afford to save. Mounts up fast too :)

Even just saving the loose change in your pocket at the end of the day will give you decent amount of money at the end of the year. My dad used to dump his loose change into one of those 5l bottles of water every day. Nearing Christmas we'd count it up and there was always roughly a grand in it which we'd then change in the bank. Saving the few euro a day wouldn't impact on his spending but it gave a nice lump sum when presents needed to be bought.

yes but life is so much easier and more fun when you feel financially secure- ie if something bad were to happen you wouldn't have to worry about money.

Both. You have to live a little, but at the same time the more expensive things I need won't pay for themselves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,783 ✭✭✭heebusjeebus

I'm usually a saver but in the last 12 months I've got engaged, got a new car, fixed said car and started a costly evening college course so I'm currently up to my eyeballs in debt. Slowly paying off the debt though so I'm not hugely concerned.

I'll be back to being a saver eventually but it will all be thrown into the wedding I fear :o

Saver. I still have my lunch money from the 3rd grade.

Spend fcukin' everything then devise ways to stretch bank balances, etc., repay all that stuff back when I get paid then start over. Usually officially broke half way through the month but still manage ok up until the last few days before pay day. Then it's cheap beer, rollies and pasta until I get paid.

Spend everything I get usually.. Money doesn't come into decisions about food, drink etc.

Anyone else think the word "spend" is weird since reading this thread?

Every penny i earn goes toward bills, kids, rent etc.... I wish i could save even 100 euro a month.

I save a lot. But if there's something I want I won't deny myself. And spending on drinks, food, entertainment is not something I'd scrimp on.

please clarify for security stands for in your opinion...

Personally I try to save as much as I can, ideally 500 euros per month, although each month is different.
I have to save a lead a very comfortable life, going out a lot, weekends away, having a cleaner, etc but somehow I end up saving as well as don't buy irrationally and I am good with planning
