Anyone have any ideas or inklings on when this will arrive here and what networks will offer it...? It's supposedly hitting UK/Ireland on 7th October or so...although there is little or no info on it apart from sim free on expansys.ie etc...

Hi :) I was just on 02's website and they are due to get it in and as far as i can tell it could be exclusive to them..... :/ which i hope is not the case as o2 dont have the best reputation for coverage such as after today's "downpours" that knocked most of its customers off the network for the day

yeah - i know...total pi$$er. i am with o2 and want to leave them...their customer service is a joke and their plans are quite possibly the worst on offer. 150mb inclusive data on their standard billpay plan? bit of a joke.

but i have spent so long looking at phones and networks and had kinda whittled things down to meteor and either the samsung galaxy s2 or the htc sensation. i wasn't too excited about the samsung, so was kinda edging towards the htc, and then found out a month ago about the sensation xe. o2 don't stock the sensation whereas meteor do, so assumed they would be getting it so though i'd wait as no point getting a sensation if a better one is coming..! but now back to sqaure one because stoopid o2 have it exclusively.

so...do i get the phone i want on a network i don't, or go to a better network (plan wise anyways) and get a phone i don't want...?? grrrrrrrr

While the Sensation XE is an exclusive, we could be hearing of some other new phones over the next two weeks. By October 11th we'll have had the major Google/Samsung event, the iPhone event and the HTC event, so I reckon we could see some very good looking devices hit the ground very soon.

    thanks for tip off ;)

i think i have pretty much settled on htc sensation xe - just need to see if i can stomach on staying with o2 to get it.

i have iphone 3gs, but really don't think the iphone 5 will sway me to stay with an apple product. don't like them - even want to ditch my ipod.

samsung would need to drop something super sweet to get my attention - my wife has the sgs1 - it is a good phone but it is just too plastic and light for my liking. also i suppose i just want a different phone from the mrs! :)

I've seen no evidence that O2 are getting exclusivity on the XE... Where has this information come from. I can't find it on their website & it seems to have originated on this thread...

In fact, I've been told that Meteor & eMobile will have it.

I've seen that said on these boards a couple of times, but it is contrary to what I've heard elsewhere...

HTC Ireland on Facebook announced it as an exclusive to O2.

    There is GOOD NEWS!

The XE is O2 exclusive - the XL, which I had not heard about til this morning, will be on the Meteor range.

    http://forums.meteor.ie/index.php?showtopic=2394
    Hi there
We won't be ranging the XE but we will be doing the XL

    Thanks
    Caitriona
    Meteor talk to us

XL has a bigger screen but lower resolution (4.7, 480x800 vs 4.3, 540x960)

I think the XE has the better processor and battery.

    Both have Beats Audio apparently.

We'll know better by the end of the week, both getting official unveiling to press on Thursday.

Is the XL what the Runnymeade's going to be called then?

Seemingly so - HTC Bass was also one of the names for it, apparently.

Will wait for the official specs, but I am not too gone on the specs for the XL myself.

Bigger screen, but a lower resolution than the XE - would prefer the XE screen. Seemingly the processor in the XE is dual core, XL is not, and the battery is better in the XE too. (XL - 1600, XE -1730).

They are the rumours anyway, will know on Thursday for certain.

agreed - xe is the better phone. but i may be sold on a slightly lower spec to be able to move away from o2. they want me to go anyways....so would happily give my money to meteor i think (even though their own customer care leaves a lot to be desired).....

In the exact same boat. I'll see what iPhone 5 offers there are too, but the XL will most likely be less than half-price.

The way it is looking, it is Samsung that could be the game changer here. The Nexus Prime will be announced, and talk is that there is a very similar, if not slightly better, more Samsung branded version of the Prime set for release too.

I reckon Samsung could announce a very very awesome phone spec wise - the lack of HTC Sense (or Beats) would be what could hold them back, imo, but technically I reckon Samsung will lead the way as they did with the Galaxy (spec wise)

most definately. and also do not want to be on an 18 month contract. having had an iphone 3gs, i have decided that i just don't want to be part of the iphone/apple world. it's good in some respects, but bad in others...for me anyways.

Does anybody how long O2 have the exclusive rights to the Sensation XE. I am due an upgrade in a wee bit, currently with Vodafone, but am thinking of changing to 3. I will wait on for a month or so if I thought that 3 would get the XE.

Disappointing, was looking forward to getting the Xe but ill be dammed if im switching to O2 to get one

Lets not all forget that at the start vodafone claimed it had the sensation "exclusively" and within a month all the networks bar tesco mobile had it so hopefully this will be the case with the xe on o2! fingers crossed!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,235 ✭✭✭Dave147

XE looks nice, XL looks mediocre. No MHL is a big let down, I get a lot of use out of that since I got my GSII. I'll wait till after Xmas to see what's announced. Won't be upgrading my phone till I know there's something with a powerhouse battery coming out. I recently bought the Anker 1900mAh batteries for my phone and have noticed a slight improvement, although I have just flashed the phone and not calibrated it yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

Can't understand why the XL has no micro sd slot. They're marketing it as a high end MP3 player replacement yet only giving 12.6gb of usable memory, which will have to be shared with apps.

The XE is definitely the one for me know, just have to work out where to get it from.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,753 ✭✭✭Bluefoam

This is not a high end phone. The XE is. The XL gives the advantage of a big screen, middle end components and beats audio. I'm not sure what the price point is, but it is value engineered to allow the averager consumer to get allot out of it.

I'm not too gone on the audio beats gimmick. Makes the phone look tacky in my opinion. Those red earphones look pretty gaudy as well.

I think HTCIreland mentioned October 17 on their facebook page a couple of weeks back. Will be interesting to see what price point it comes in at.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 667 ✭✭✭Phat Cat

It's nearly guaranteed to be the same price as the Samsung Galaxy S II on O2 so expect to pay:

    • €269 on an 18 month contract @ €40 per month with 150MB of data
    • €199 on an 18 month contract @ €60 per month with 700MB of data
    • €169 on an 18 month contract @ €80 per month with 700MB of data
    • Free on an 18 month contract @ €100 per month with 700MB of data

    Hardy worth it IMO

Plus I wouldn't be surprised if they hiked up the price to subsidise the offset of the FREE earphones that are apparently worth €100, so they can make another quick buck at the customers expense.

I'd only be intersted in it if it comes out on 3, eMobile or Meteor.

Why are you only interested in the operators with the worst 3G Networks?

There is no point in getting a good deal for a phone if you can only use it on your home wireless.

I would guess its because O2 and Vodafone now offer the worst data packages ever!

Is this meant to be a joke. I have been with O2 & Vodafone in the past & rate Meteor way ahead of both of them.

My O2 Blackberry was almost useless, while vodafone would charge me huge (!!!) data bills, but refuse to disclose how I used such huge amounts of data - due to privacy issues (!?!)...

Because O2 are only offering 150MB of data per month while the likes of 3 are offering 15GB of data for the same price and duration.

I'd actually be using my home wireless anyway if I went with O2 because I'd use 150MB in a week without any real effort.

    It's a no brainer really.

Bluefoam, I'm not talking about billing issue (which I've never had with any network), I'm talking about availability of a decent network outside of a major urban area. Meteor/eMobile and 3 have nowhere near the coverage that o2 or Vodafone have.

If you are in a non-3G area then the best data package in the world isn't much use.

Phat Cat - I agree that the 150MB is terrible.

    Hi all,
Would ye reckon the larger 1730mAh battery in the XE will work in the original Sensation? I wonder would it give the original Sensation much of a boost in terms of battery life?

    Cheers,

Make sure to look at TescoMobile.ie too. They started bill phones last week and they're on the O2 network so coverage shouldn't be an issue.

Their Samsung Galaxy S2 is available for free on an 18 month contract at €55 per month for 1000 minutes, 1000 texts and 2GB data.

According to the O2 Ireland Shop Twitter page this device will be available tomorrow.
The HTC Sensation XE will be available from 20th(ish) of this month. Pre-register on O2.ie to avoid disappointment!

Hopefully it will be available on another network next month.

it's all a bit of a farce (surprise surprise) really. o2 twitter feeds say will be available on the 20th. the o2 forums won't back this up, saying "the o2 online shop says this, but it is not confirmed". i asked yesterday when it would be confirmed and they told me nearer the date of the 20th. yesterday was the 18th. how much "nearer the date" do they want to get...??? it's all hush hush, playing cards close to their chest for no real reason.

customer service is poorly lacking with o2 - although it's much the same for meteor (and the other networks I am sure). you never get a straight answer, always fobbed off with ambiguous statements....keep you hanging on and on and on. they most likely think they are being clever by creating "demand" or buzz....but it's just building annoyance.

I emailed Meteor about this phone, got a fairly non-committal answer (surprise surprise) telling me to keep an eye on the website over the next few weeks, but at least they didn't flat out say they wouldn't be stocking it. Keeping my fingers crossed anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 667 ✭✭✭Phat Cat

I was reading HTC Ireland's Facebook page and when questioned about this device they stated that stock will be made available the week beginning the 24th October.

Hopefully Meteor, 3 or eMobile get this phone in the next few weeks because O2's phone prices & data plans are totally ridiculous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

Well it's supposed to be out today but still nothing from O2. For a communications company they're not very good at communicating.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 667 ✭✭✭Phat Cat

O2 answered a question about this earlier via Twitter:
We're expecting delivery at the end of the week. If it's earlier I'll post on here

Those posts keep on moving, expect it mid November ;)

A Meteor rep said on their forum that they will only be getting the XL in stock but have no plans for the XE.

The XL is far too big (4.7 inch screen) has no SDcard slot and only comes in white! No thanks!
