Am I just an old fart or has radio gone sh1t?

I have to endure 8.5 hours of utter crap on FM104 Mon - Fri at work ,the same few songs everyday some as much as 5-6 times a day. From the station that proclaims "you never know what your going to get" but we do,we all know we're going to get Lady Gaga,Bruno Marrs,Beyonce,Rihanna,Take that,The Coronas,The Script,Adele,Noel Galagher,One Republic,Justin Timberlake and Jedward, with the very rare but predictable Bob Marley,Queen,Phil Collins or Bruce Springstein (usually just after the "you never know what your going to get" jingle

Not to mention the 3 hours in the morning of having to listen to those two **** Jim Jim Nugent & Mark.

Anyone agree? or do you have a station you hate or prefer?

    In before 'Dublin forum'.

Technically it belongs here because country people go ape for 2fm.
They are certainly the only ones that are allowed on air when they phone in.

Spin103 is the worst one for me. Cant stand most of the crap on it.

I quite like nova though they yend to play the same stuff over and over again and they talk too much. Also quite enjoy listening to lyric fm from time to time.

But mostly i just plug in my ipod...

i'm afraid commercial music radio is so bad that only talk radio does it for me now, and i don't mean Joe Duffy. The lads on off the ball are good, some newstalk stuff is okay, but not tom dunne.

At least there's still the Classical station, Lyric FM. Though there are some Classical modes that turn me off, such as Opera. Why don't they sing normally, in English? ;)

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

All commercial radio stations play the same sh*te over and over. I remember many years ago, listening to PhantomFM when it was a pirate. Pretty good radio station. I can't listen to it (bar the Sunday morning show by Pearl) now as it's beyond awful since it got its license.

You'll have to ask Bizet, Puccini and others that. I mean, why didn't they write their stupid operas in English?:pac:

No poll option for Trollstation (aka Newstalk).

That should read I listened to Phantom before it was ****. It's not a hipster thing to listen to an alternative radio station and expect alternative music, no?

Also, I'm confused that the thread is 'worst radio station in mayo' but the poll is 'worst radio station in Dublin'?

Smart arse - you can't receive FM104, NoVa, 98FM or Spin 103.8 in Mayo.

So your poll should read MWR, Castlebar Community Radio, Claremorris Community Radio, Westport Community Radio, i102-104, (Spin SW, Galway Bay FM, Shannonside, 4FM, Ocean FM - some parts) ,as well as the Nationals Today FM, Radio1, Lyric FM, 2FM and Newstalk
Also, I'm confused that the thread is 'worst radio station in mayo' but the poll is 'worst radio station in Dublin'?

He changed it after I called him a pleb for having a poll with 4 Dublin only stations and 1 national station. I stand by my original comment. :P :D :pac:

Radio is for losers who need to be told what to listen to, and enjoy inane conversation. "Please tell me what's cool this month Mr. DJ! God forbid I make my own musical choices. Is it another Rihanna & Script & Clo Green song? Yay! Please play them ad nauseum."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,528 ✭✭✭✭dsmythy

    Radio sucks.

Joe Duffy seems to think RTÉ is Dublin local radio

Too many Dublin topics on that show and he lists off streets like the rest of Ireland knows where they are

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,222 ✭✭✭bigneacy

    Worst Radio station in Cork?

Cork - None of the stations receivable except 2FM

C103, 96FM, RedFM, (Spin SW, Beat 102-103, WLR, Radio Kerry, KCLR in some parts) The nationals also - Today FM, Radio1, Lyric FM, 2FM, 4FM and Newstalk. You've also got the two religious stations here - Spirit FM and Life FM.

We could do this all day. You're still a pleb.
    Worst Radio station in Waterford?

I deteste spin 1038... they talk utter ****e all day long. Its not even funny how idiotic the station comes across when they ask 12y/o kids what they think the solution to the economic crisis is...

Irish radio stations in general are a load of shíte.

Seems very ironic that the best radio station (Newstalk) doesn't really play music at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,160 ✭✭✭Eurovisionmad

96FM in Cork by a long shot, Neil Prendevile and the same rubbish songs on repeat all day!

Dublins Q102 is the scourge of my life.
It's on constantly in work, they just gathered all the songs I've hated years ago and make me endure them over and over again.

Radio in Ireland is uttler shyte what with five songs on the playlist and the compulsory 20% news and current affairs inane drivel speech quota.

    1) Get thee one of those little transmitters that plug into MP3 players
    2) Tune to same frequency as unwanted station and conceal as close as possible to unwanted radio.
    3) ????
    4) PROFIT!!!

    Absolutely, complete and utter sh1te.

Oh God. The strawberry alarm clock on FM104 has turned Sh1te! It was all right when they had the show and the women was there too. But Jim Jim and Mark, its really crap. The Prank aren't funny because the same jokes have been recycled every morning:confused:. Over the past week they had this "Reeling in the years 2011" which they made in anticipation of dublin winning the match tomorrow which was ok the 1st time. Boring the second time, and change station the third time. The only bearable bit is the music, but they repeat that too!! I can't wait for my iPhone to get back from repairs so i don't have to listen to that crap in the morning:(

I find all the Irish stations a bit meh, except the two Rays, they are godawful shíte and neither as funny or intelligent as they or their listeners imagine.

For music, online radio is far better. Radio Paradise has a very varied mix. Their playlist of the last 6 hours is pretty eclectic and well worth a listen.

Was the thread title not originally Dublin, which was changed following objections lodged from outside the Pale and the reworked title a play on Radio Free Europe?

i102-104 in the North west is the worst I'm aware of. Its on constantly at work so I it get eight hours a day...and its the same **** songs every day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 82 ✭✭Professor Knowall

I suppose I'm lucky, I live near Northern Ireland and get digital radio, so all the proper BBC channels...I can also get Chris Moyles on my way to work in the car or something more serious on Radion 4 if I wish...

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 34,567 ✭✭✭✭Biggins

I remember years ago during the 'cold war' when then the term "free Europe" was used.
I'm just surprised at its still usage today. Maybe there is reason to. The expression popping up out of the blue (or forum to be exact) surprised me! LOL :D

2FM is pure shíte for my generation, having to listen to tubs et al, so that's what I voted for.

On mature reflection SPIN is pure shíte too, just for more of the time. Their presenters are ALL posh D4 heads with no idea how the real world works and the same number of brain cells as a decomposed rat. Music is godawful most of the time and they do the news at quarter to every hours which is just silly.

    Gah, rant over.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,847 ✭✭✭HavingCrack

What's with all the American accents on radio these days? They don't even sound D4 like but pure American  Sounds exact same as the presenter on my local station when I lived in New York. Do they think it sounds cool or something or are they just thick...
