3 points and a good performance needed form this game. While liverpool did spend plenty in the summer i dont think they bought real top quality players.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,661 ✭✭✭mickman

suarez is a top quality player for sure and he will cause us trouble - especially if we dont have king.

if king plays i think we will win 3-1 . if he dosent then we could be in trouble and it could finish 2-2

i feel very strongly about leaving defoe and adeyabour up top and let the partnership to continue to flourish. whether harry does that is another matter. i honestly think if he bends to vdv pressure and plays him then we could draw or lose this game

If all were fit, I think only reina, gerrard(if fit), suarez and carroll (if fit) would get in our team ! The left full would be a tight call !

JD and Ade will start, only place vdv could start is on the right ahead of krancjar.

This is a huge huge game. Allot of people wrote us off after the City. A win here and I think we are right back in the hunt. I don't see anyone guaranteed 3rd/4th. My gut says 1-1 but I'm going for a 3-1 win. Ade with a brace.

Hope Redknapp play the same side who won at Wolves. Think everyone agrees without King were screwed, the lad with the mouthful of teeth who plays up front for the bin dippers is a major annoyance, as is Bellamy and Dick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,778 ✭✭✭Big Pussy Bonpensiero

    With King, 2-0, 2-1 or 3-1 win.
Without King anything could happen. I understand Gallas is in contention, I'd be confident enough if it were him and Kaboul, but Christ, Suarez would walk through Bassong. I think Harry learned that you cant play Modric and Kranjcar in the middle, so Parker and Modric is a cert imo. Lennon is a huge boost but he's a slight doubt apparently, iirc he's scored against Liverpool in our last 2 home games against them.
    Ideal line-up;

    Friedal
    Walker --- King --- Gallas --- BAE
    Lennon --- Parker --- Modric --- Bale
    Adebayor --- Defoe

I really hope vdV doesn't start this game. 4-4-2 was great the year we got fourth and last week. No reason to change... hopefully!

^^ That's exactly the team I'd go for. Leave VDV on the bench and bring him on later. Having said that, I can't remember VDV ever coming off the bench? He's always started, so it'll be interesting to see how Harry deals with him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,290 ✭✭✭Leinstersqspur

Hopefully King is in good shape.
Hard to call, Lennon or Vdv, Lennon could be devastating off the bench if Liverpool tire?

Fingers crossed that King is fighting fit and able.

I'd like to see VdV and Adebayor up front, Defoe's a backup player imo. Based on Pav's performance midweek, I don't see a future for him. I love the guy, but he just doesn't turn up consistently enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

I would like to see last VDV from last year and Ade up front but I haven't seen a sign of him in a while. Defoe and Ade for me. See how they get on.

Harry Redknapp reports that Rafa van der Vaart has a chance of returning to action in Sunday's big clash against Liverpool.

The Dutch international, last season's top goalscorer, picked up a hamstring injury against Manchester City on August 28.

"Rafa could be available," said Harry after training on Friday.

Harry added that he was also hopeful on Ledley King, who made such an impressive return to action in last Saturday's win at Wolves.

"He'll train on Saturday and tells us if he's fit," said Harry, who also revealed that William Gallas had returned to training but as yet wasn't fit enough to be considered.

Aaron Lennon (groin) remains doubtful with Sandro (knee), Michael Dawson (Achilles), Danny Rose (ankle), Steven Pienaar (groin) and Tom Huddlestone (ankle).

So is that Modric and Parker in the middle, with Kranjcar on the right instead of Lennon? Glad to see Defoe and Ade starting again.

    Come on Spurs!

Yupp Modric and Parker in centre. Hoping Bale not on the right this time.

    Absolutely DELIGHTED. COYS.

Great performance from all and a great 3 points.

Was glad to see Adam deservedly sent off and that tackle on Bale last season, karma.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,290 ✭✭✭Leinstersqspur

What a win, not only the score but the manner of the performance! The movement of the team was joyful to watch!
TBH I think I would have given Parker MOTM, he was everywhere!

If we had 3points from our game in hand we'd be 4th!:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,951 ✭✭✭SuprSi

Wow what a result. Absolutely delighted with that, and I really wanted to see 4 goals so was chuffed when Ade got his 2nd. It'll be very nice heading into work tomorrow to chat with a Liverpool mate who was sure they'd easily beat us :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,395 ✭✭✭Hatch99

    Brilliant performance.
Could have been 7 or 8..
    Everyone played there part..

I'm really glad we got the 4. It's important to make back up the goal difference.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 138 ✭✭yidweiser

That was a joy to watch.
I think we have weathered the storm of the transfer market and now it's down to business.
Modric really knuckled down today and was class.
Krancjar is worth his place. A great link up man and has a shot on him.
How much is Scotty worth? *man
    Adam\Carroll = Donkeys
I'd be worried for Kenny with this lot. They have no midfield.
I must say, I was not a fan of Adebayor before he signed for us but fair play to him. Great show. Is Tottenham the club for him?
What can I say, brilliant to see Defoe at it again.
Ledley back, things are surely looking up.
Please god we keep playing 4-4-2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

I also liked the look of VDV when he came on. 4-4-2 all the way I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 284 ✭✭Wendell Gee

fourth year in succession to beat them at home. That's just the kind of momentum changer that was needed. So much hype about Liverpool, and they are going to be a force, but they are not Barcelona. Suarez and Adam are talents, but Adam can be nasty, as we saw last year, and Suarez lost the rag both to-day and in May. I think he's Ledley's pet. What a player Parker is. I was not sure we needed him, but he wins so much ball, and never gives it up.
So refreshing to see both Parker and Modric constantly showing to take the ball off the back four.
I've long seen Adebayor as just the man to round off our team. I said before season that Kaboul and Defoe would have to have good seasons if we were to prosper. Hope they continue to. King makes any CB partner look better.
Need to handle Arsenal and Chelsea over the next few weeks, and then we can set course for top four or better.

    Well put Wendell Gee.
    Suarez, Ledley's pet.
    Class :D
    Are you Arsenal in disguise!
    -8 GD now.
I wish we were playing them next.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,661 ✭✭✭mickman

what about adebayours first goal- the clip up over the goalie was a mirror image of messi last season against arsenal. People were going on abotu that for ages afterwards - ade deserves the same

if you compare him to crouch then its obvious that crouch isnt even in the same league as him. to get 10 million for crouch was the best bit of business ever.

adebayours ability on the ball, his footwork, control and shooting are leagues ahead of crouch. no way crouch would have scored either of ade's goals yesterday

we defo have gotten much better with hiim and parker

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,951 ✭✭✭SuprSi

I absolutely agree. He's a proper striker. At times he was dropping quite deep collecting the ball, linking play - his pass to Defoe (when he was incorrectly called offside) for that chance in the 2nd half which Defoe subsequently missed, was brilliant, and something Crouch wouldn't have been capable of.

So far so good, and with Defoe already scoring almost as many as he did in the entire last season, hopefully things are looking up on the goals front.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,240 ✭✭✭Robxxx7

After the shambles of the first 2 games of the season .. I really think we can kick on now, Parker has fitted in like he's been here for 10 years and the movement of Ade up front causes defenders all sorts of problems .... have a good feeling about this year (as long as we can keep the important players free from injury)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,290 ✭✭✭Leinstersqspur

Defoe and Adebayor, five goals from two.
"The Parker and Modric Show" is in town, get yisser tickets quick!

Parker and Modric play together like they've been playing together for years. Really confident, and some great passing moves. Also fantastic to see our strikers getting goals. Very solid performance. Considering how down we all were two weeks ago, things are certainly looking up :)
