out of these matches the following would be my picks for the weekend

    falcons
    colts
    broncos (-3.5)

also tempting is redskins (-3.5) and the dolphins, but anytime i try to get too greedy with the NFL i lose

I have Ravens (-5.5), Steelers (-14), Packers (-9.5) and Chargers (+7) which I got yesterday.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,986 ✭✭✭✭mikemac

Oakland Raiders @ Buffalo Bills (-3): Two teams that are looking at good seasons, well possibly not losing records anyway :). Hard one to call, give me the Bills.

Green Bay Packers (-9.5) @ Carolina Panthers: Don't like this point spread at all, the Panthers may cover it but Green Bay will not be denied and are excellent on the road.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Detroit Lions (-9): The Chiefs were a disgrace in Week One and the entire preseason, a real letdown. I saying the Chiefs go on a winless streak. And to go first to last in their division . Lions looked good last week, have momentum and Megatron is on fire.

Cleveland Browns (-2.5) @ Indiniapolis Colts: Browns realy disappointed me, good FO, good signings and good preasons and they lose to the Bungles???? I don't expect the Colts to bounce back, Browns to win

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Minnesota Vikings (-3): McNabb was just awful last week, pathetic numbers, is the man robbed of all confidence and shell-shocked? Sad to see. Still the Vikings put up a game and Jared Allen and the D will edge it out for a Vikings win.

Chicago Bears @ New Orleans Saints (-6.5): Bears looked very good last week, surprised a lot of people but the Saints at home take this

New York Jets (-9): Cutting your starting QB five days before opening day won't do a lot for morale and though the Jags won they were not impressive. Jets at home at too strong. Jags main weakness was linebackers and safeties and while they've made some signings, Rex Ryan will run the ball and smash mouth football to a win.

Seattle Seahawks @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-14). With the first pick in the NFL draft, the Seattle Seahawks select...... Niners and Seahawks was the worst game I've seen in a long time and the less worse team won. Seahawks on the road too and Mike Tomlin and the veteran leaders will be anxious to bounce back and lay down a beating. This will be a blowout.

Baltimore Ravens (-5.5) @ Tennessee Titans: When Billick was around, the Ravens would win big games and lose supposodly easier games the next weak, not so with Harbaugh. Old man Hasslebeck looked very shaky even behind the good Oline. At the same time Ravens picked a host of injuries to CB's Carr, Smith and Williams while Foxworth is still rusty coming off an ACL injury. Ravens will be concerned they can't double Kenny Brit so their pass rush must perform and it will. Ravens to win but it'll be tight

Arizona Cardinals @ Washington Redskins (-3.5): Overlook the return from Peterson, the Cardinals secondary got shredded. Redskins are rebuilding the right way, have an excellent defense and Hightower in top form.

    9:05pm/9:15pm

Dallas Cowboys (-3) @ San Francisco 49ers: Niners with the second pick in the draft the way they looked last week. Jason Garrett will have the Cowboys to bounce back and Candlestick is no fortress.

Cincinatti Bengals @ Denver Broncos (-3.5): Injuries aplently. Dumbervil-shouler, Llyod-groin, Moreno-hamstring and on the other side, Dalton-wrist. Some may start, it's still early to say but I think Brad Gradkowski gives a better chance to win then Dalton. Broncos have zero running game and questionable defense so Bengals need to get back to what they did two years when they were Division champs and play AFC North football. Benson to have a big game, it'll be low scoring but Bengals to edge it. Kyle Orton to put up flashy numbers due to chasing the game as usual.

Houston Texans (-3) @ Miami Dolphins: Dolphins did a lot of things well. However I thought their D would outperform their offense and it was the other way around. And what's up with the thousands of empty seats and zero atmosphere, Dolphins realy struggling with their fanbase. Texans are cold an efficient and will win

San Diego Chargers @ New England Patriots (-6.5) :Chargers started slow last week and took time to get going but at least they won which they often fail to do in September. Patriots to win though I expect a lot more running the ball from the Patriots so no huge passing numbers.

    1:20am

Philadelphia Eagles (-1) @ Atlanta Falcons: What's up with the Falcons last week?? Eagles to win

    Monday 19th September

    1:30am

St. Louis Rams @ New York Giants (-6): I like the Rams, I realy do but multiple injuries including Steven Jackson are hurting them badly. Bradford too. I have to keep an eye on the injury report though teams are deceptive over that. Giants to win at home but depending on who returns for the Rams, could go the other way

Oakland Raiders @ Buffalo Bills : The Bills suprised a lot of us last week against Kansas and suddenly their O looks pretty good. They did have the worst Running Defence in the league last year so I'm going with the Raiders to win by running the ball well. Mcfadden will be the best RB in the league this season I think.

Green Bay Packers @ Carolina Panthers: Carolina also suprised a lot last week and it was brilliant watching Cam Newton do his thing but this game is a different monster. Interceptions and Sacks galore here. I think the Packers will try get this one iced as quick as they can.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Detroit Lions: My opinion on the Chiefs has changed quite a bit. From having an electric offence to Matt Cassell looking disgraceful in the space of a few games. Something aint right. Stafford was excellent last week and Megatron, Best and Burleson will run the show again.

Cleveland Browns @ Indiniapolis Colts: On paper this looks like a snoozefest now but will probably be a classic :). While Mccoy was ok first half last week he was prettt poor in the 3rd and 4th Qtrs. I think Indy take this one.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Minnesota Vikings: McNabb can't be that bad again can he? The Vikings actually played well apart from him. But wasnt that the case last year with Favre on occasions. Freeman was ok last week but the "youngry" Bucs will give them a good contest. Tampa Bay to win.

Chicago Bears @ New Orleans Saints : Marques Colston is a big loss for this team but Brees can get it done with a couple of hobos off the street. This could depend if Urlacher is back to lead the D. I'm going with a Chicago upset here.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ New York Jets : The Jets never do things easily. We have to stop MoJo running the ball first of all. If Mercedes Lewis is out that will help too as we didn't cope well on SNF against Witten. Make McGowan throw the ball and it's a nice Jets win. Act the maggot on D and it's another 3 or 4 point game.

Seattle Seahawks @ Pittsburgh Steelers. The Seahawks were garbage last week....but so where the Steelers. Big Ben and Co will be hurting so I expect a Steelers demolition of a really poor team.

Baltimore Ravens @ Tennessee Titans: Wow on the Ravens last week. Their D was superb. Keep that up this week and Hasslebeck goes on IR for the rest of the season. I tipped CJ24Yards as he was last week to be the letdown of the season and I still think so. Tennessesee save Kenny Britt were pretty boring last week. Ravens to win easily here.

Arizona Cardinals @ Washington Redskins (-3.5): Hmmm, hard one to call. Redskins win and people beging to wake up and notice. Cardinals win and they are already on their way to winning the NFC West.

    9:05pm/9:15pm

Dallas Cowboys @ San Francisco 49ers: Really impressed by the Cowboys last week sans Tony Romo's comedic finish at the end. It wasn't the D that lost the game. Someone said above apart from the Ginn returns it was the worst game of the weekend. The 49ers are poor and I still think they come last this year. Dallas to win easily.

Cincinatti Bengals @ Denver Broncos: Bleh I kind of hope the Bengals win because it keeps the Tebow media circus in full flow again. Interesting point about Orton being a stat padder when chasing games. Cinnci's defence is pretty solid. Michael Johnson is a beast isnt he?. Hard to call but I go with Cinnci here with Benson running well.

Houston Texans @ Miami Dolphins: Oooh interesting matchup. The Texans win this and they start looking like a playoff team, they lose and its same ole Texans again. They look great under Wade Philips now. Miami has to improve the D but Cameron Wake wont be as quiet this week. Nate Solder looked All Pro already against him.

San Diego Chargers @ New England Patriots : C'mon lads how bout a 1000yard passing game between you two. The Chargers Special Teams VS The Pats dodgy Secondary. Rivers could light them guys up but the Pats are too good on Offence. Nice long drives followed mostly by TD's and not FG. It's going to be a good game though. Game of the week for me.

    1:20am

Philadelphia Eagles @ Atlanta Falcons: Matty Ice is usually a different person at the Georgia Dome. Mike Vick wasn't great last week (even if he thinks he was) but McCoy and Jackson where. Another game I can't wait to see. Atlanta edge it in a shootout.

    Monday 19th September

    1:30am

St. Louis Rams @ New York Giants: The Injury Bowl. Is Justin Tuck back for this?
I think the Giants win at home. Steve Jackson is a huge loss for such a young QB. Plus Bradford won't be 100% fit.

    6:00pm
Oakland Raiders @ Buffalo Bills: I think the fact that the bills had a solid win against the chiefs and that the Raiders have a shorter week and are travelling means a win for Buffalo.

Green Bay Packers @ Carolina Panthers: Cam Newton, or no Cam Newton I don't see anything but a W for the cheese heads in this match.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Detroit Lions: I think the Lions will continue their strong start to the season and have a somewhat comfortable win against KC.

Cleveland Browns @ Indiniapolis Colts: The Colts were caught out last week but Kerry Collins is a veteran qb who should bounce back.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Minnesota Vikings (SS4) McNabb will never play that poorly again, but the Bucs are still the better team.

Chicago Bears @ New Orleans Saints
Bias aside, I think this will be one of the better matchups of the week. Even though it is a road game, I'm confident that we can beat the Saints.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ New York Jets J-E-T-S!

Seattle Seahawks @ Pittsburgh Steelers Pissed-off Steelers against a Seahawks team that faces a second game on the road. It'll be a blood bath

Baltimore Ravens @ Tennessee Titans: The Ravens made an embarrassment out of one of the so called stronger teams last week and even with Chris Johnson in the backfield I foresee a long 60 minutes for the Titans.

Arizona Cardinals @ Washington Redskins: Sexy Rexy is going to go 2-0 for the season.

    9:05pm/9:15pm
Dallas Cowboys (-3) @ San Francisco 49ers: There are more players on the roster than Ted Ginn. Take away those two returns and it was a much closer game. Nuff said?

Cincinatti Bengals @ Denver Broncos: Kyle Orton to step up to the plate and put an end to the Tebow chants.

Houston Texans @ Miami Dolphins: Matt Schaub + Andre Johnson > Miami D.

San Diego Chargers @ New England Patriots: The Pats might have Mr 522(?) but the Chargers have Philip Rivers who is still one of the best QBs in the league. This will be a good one.

    1:20am
Philadelphia Eagles @ Atlanta Falcons: Falcons by a close one at home

    Monday 19th September
    1:30am
St. Louis Rams @ New York Giants: Giants to win here.

    No0b question alert...

Can someone briefly explain the whole plus and minus thing, i.e Chargers (-3.5) for example. Is it to win/lose by that amount of points? Years following sports and I've never fully comprehended it.

    No0b question alert...

Can someone briefly explain the whole plus and minus thing, i.e Chargers (-3.5) for example. Is it to win/lose by that amount of points? Years following sports and I've never fully comprehended it.

Yup, if the Chargers were -3.5, that means they are favoured to win by that amount. The .5 is just to eliminate a push (i.e. if they were -3 and won by exactly 3, you would get your money back). The spread will always be in and around evens, usually either 10/11, 20/21, 4/5 etc. Of course some bookies allow you to pick your own spread but the odds will obviously change depending on the spread you pick.

Alternatively, if a team are +3.5, you're basically betting on them to be within 3.5 points at the end of the game (imagine them starting the game with an imaginary score of 3.5 added to whatever they eventually score).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,986 ✭✭✭✭mikemac

    It's the spread

Both teams are given the same odds and then they are handicapped

Look at this one for example
St. Louis Rams @ New York Giants (-6)

Both the Rams and the Giants are given the same odds.
If you back the Giants they must win by seven or more to beat the spread and you then win.

Suppose the Rams win by three points. Then the Giants failed to cover the spread so your bet on the Giants failed.

They have the same in many sports, even Irish rugby games.

You don't have to bet on teams this way. You can always bet the normal way and one team is a favourite and the other is the underdog.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,643 ✭✭✭Phoenix Park

I'll try and answer. The plus and minus is the number of points headstart one team gets. So if one team has -6.5 beside them, they are handicapped this number of points for betting purposes, and if you back them on the handicap they must beat their opponent by 7 points or more for you to win your bet. This is seen in many sports, tennis is a big one with a market over the number of games that will be played in a match, as punters don't like backing very short prices favorites and need something more even to give them a thrill. Asian handicap markets in soccer are now very populer too.
The 0.5 is to ensure bets win or lose, they can't be tied. (although some bookmakers have separate markets for this if you want to back a tie).
Generally as its a two horse race there is a significant overround for the bookmaker( for example, they give you a bet at odds implying the team you back has a 54% chance of winning the handicap bet, but in reality they only have a 50% chance of winning the bet). This is what makes it nigh on impossible in the long term for punters.
In my opinion they are bets to be avoided with bookmakers, you could use an exchange and bet if you feel the price is wrong, but then there is a commission factor to the exchange, that can be minimized, but thats for another day though i guess..
    Best of luck.

I copied Tom Brady last week and got +4 :p

    My picks for week 2:

Oakland @ Buffalo: Very tough to call this one. Was impressed by both sides last week. Went for Buffalo because of home advantage (and the difficulty West Coast teams have when playing games across on the East), and the fact that if Kyle Williams & Marcel Dareus can contain McFadden in the running game, I think Fitzpatrick can outscore Jason Campbell.

Packers @ Carolina: Seems the easiest pick of the week. I think Cam Newton might come crashing back down to Earth. He'll be running for his life from the Packers' pass rush, and Rodgers will put up some serious points on the Panthers defense and weak secondary.

Chiefs @ Lions: Was impressed by the Lions last week, and think if Stafford stays healthy they'll have a great year. Opposite case for the Chiefs; think a weak schedule flattered them last year. Lions will win this.

Browns @ Colts: Tough to call as well. I think the Colts will show improvement (they couldn't really fail to) but don't know if it'll be enough. I'll back McCoy & the Browns.

Buccaneers v Vikings: If Brian Price & Gerard McCoy can even just contain Adrian Peterson, (granted as big an ask as there is) then the Buccs will have too much elsewhere. McNabb struggled last week. Buccs weren't brilliant either, but should have enough.

Bears @ Saints: Bears defense was obviously impressive last week, but thought Cutler did very well too, and threw a lot more check downs than I recall him doing in past seasons. None the less, someone with Brees' quick release should frustrate the Bears' excellent pass rush.

Jaguars @ Jets: I think McCown did well, especially given his short preparation time. Ryan will have studied him intently all week though, and when MJD still probably not at 100% fitness, the Jets d will overwhelm the Jaguars.

Seahawks @ Steelers: Steelers are consistently at their best when people are counting them out. They will respond big time. Seahawks looked beyond terrible last week. Easy call.

Ravens @ Titans: If the Titans couldn't get a win last weekend against a hastily reshuffled Jaguars team, then it doesn't get any easier this week. Ravens were so impressive. If Flacco keeps playing like that, they'll be real SB contenders.

Cardinals @ Redskins: So impressed by Grossman's poise and Hightower's hustle last week. You'd think Hightower will really have something to prove this week too.

Cowboys @ 49ers: As bad as the Seahawks were last week, they still could have beaten a bad 49ers team, but for the magic of Ted Ginn on returns. You can't hope to get that every week. Cowboys will have too much for them.

Bengals @ Broncos: Bengals struggled last week, hard to know who is fit there and who isn't. I think Orton and the Broncos bounce back.

Texans @ Dolphins: Dolphins obviously struggled containing the Pats pass offense, and the Texans is pretty special too. If Arian Foster returns to pair with the brilliant Ben Tate, I think the Texans will do it. Especially as their defense looks much improved, and I don't see Chad Henne putting up those sort of numbers again. I think the release of Benny Sapp was a bad move to by Sparano, and don't see his teammates responding well to it.

Chargers @ Patriots: Really tough to call. I think the Chargers defense is better than the Patriots, but I think a combination of factors, especially the old west coast team travelling east phenomenon I mentioned earlier will see the Pats win.

Eagles @ Falcons: Home field advantage, a struggling Eagles O-line, a good response from the Falcons.

Rams @ Giants: Both sides plagued by injuries. Unsure if Bradford is okay, looks like Jackson is out, on the Giants side, uncertainty over whether Tuck, Umenyiora & Nicks are ready to go. Backing the Giants at home.

Oakland Raiders @ Buffalo Bills (-3): Because...**** the raiders

Green Bay Packers (-9.5) @ Carolina Panthers: Do i need to explain this? Newton looks class and Williams/Stewart are quality. As for the rest of the team, they're either injured or not that good. Whereas Green Bay...well...

Kansas City Chiefs @ Detroit Lions (-9): KC are a bit of a mess atm, they'll scrap with us for last in the AFC West all year. Detroit handily

Cleveland Browns (-2.5) @ Indiniapolis Colts: God only knows what to expect here, i'll just back the colts because surely they aren't that bad?

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Minnesota Vikings (-3): Like the bucs here, Minnesota literally have feck all going for them not named Percy Harvin or Adrian Peterson

Chicago Bears @ New Orleans Saints (-6.5): Bears will push hard but the saints are too god at home and i can't see them falling to 0-2

Jacksonville Jaguars @ New York Jets (-9): Jags weren't really tested last week. This will be another matter entirely

Seattle Seahawks @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-14). Steelers will be mad as **** after last week and seattle are useless, this could be ugly

Baltimore Ravens (-5.5) @ Tennessee Titans: Ravens really look the business atm, Tenn will not be able to get any offense going whatsoever

Arizona Cardinals @ Washington Redskins (-3.5): I like the look of these new Redskins and the Cards still have a lot of holes to fix

    9:05pm/9:15pm

Dallas Cowboys (-3) @ San Francisco 49ers: I fancy Dallas to bounce back from last week here, SF are not all that.

Cincinatti Bengals @ Denver Broncos (-3.5): Right... where to start... We cant run, we can't stop the run, our offensive line is garbage, the interior of both lines as a whole is crap, there's a QB controversy acting as a huge distraction, Orton is a choker who pads his stats against prevent defences, we have a few players injured, moreno is a bust, ayers is a bust, we've a playmaker at QB holding a clipboard, our players in general don't seem to be in the right frame of mind if monday is anything to go by, we put up more yards in penalties against us than we record on total offence and our special teams still need work. Other than that, we're not a very good team right now.
We won't be able to stop benson while our offence will do sweet f.a. again, we're not winning this

Houston Texans (-3) @ Miami Dolphins: Miami are a limited enough side and last monday showed that they simply cannot keep up with high scoring offences, which houston certainly have

San Diego Chargers @ New England Patriots (-6.5) : It's early season San Diego and Brady has a great record against them. SD to cover though

    1:20am

Philadelphia Eagles (-1) @ Atlanta Falcons: It's matt ryan at home so the falcons will fare much better than last week, while the eagles are starting to believe their own hype. i got the falcons edging this one.

    Monday 19th September

    1:30am

St. Louis Rams @ New York Giants (-6): Honestly havent a clue here, could go either way tbh, i'll back bradford and the rams though

Only going to comment on some of the games as I didn't get to see all the highlights/games from the weekend.

    Sunday 18th September

    6:00pm

Oakland Raiders @ Buffalo Bills (-3)

Green Bay Packers (-9.5) @ Carolina Panthers - Fancy Green Bay to win and cover the handicap. Newton had a stormer last weekend, made even better by the fact it was his first game in the NFL proper. But I think the Packers are going to cut loose against some teams this year. And if they get the defence sorted this weekend (the missed tackles drove me mental) then it should be a comfortable victory.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Detroit Lions (-9) - Lions beat a decent Bucs side last week. Chiefs got stuffed. As long as Stafford/Best/Johnson are flying, they'll prove hard to beat.

Cleveland Browns (-2.5) @ Indiniapolis Colts

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Minnesota Vikings (-3) - Going for an upst here. Mainly because I felt the Bucs (from my extensive knowledge of NFL ) could have a good season. And I just don't fancy the Vikings - especially with McNabb.

Chicago Bears @ New Orleans Saints (-6.5) - Saints at home under Brees rarely lose (think it's 11/18 wins or 13/18) and they could cover the handicap. Ingram could do with upping it but he won't be facing Raji and co. every week. Even with Colston out I think Saints should have enough. Plus Urlacher could be out (not the circumstances you would want someone to miss out) which means their main defence caller would be gone.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ New York Jets (-9) - could be a rout for Jets at home.

Seattle Seahawks @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-14) - Steelers should walk this one. Seattle are going to be close to the bottom of the pile this season.

    Baltimore Ravens (-5.5)
@ Tennessee Titans - Ravens set down a marker last week and with Rice doing well against a tough Steelers defence, should dominate again even though I think the Titans will come close.

Arizona Cardinals @ Washington Redskins (-3.5)

    9:05pm/9:15pm

    Dallas Cowboys (-3) @ San Francisco 49ers
Cincinatti Bengals @ Denver Broncos (-3.5)
Houston Texans (-3) @ Miami Dolphins
San Diego Chargers @ New England Patriots (-6.5) (Sky Sports 4)

    1:20am

Philadelphia Eagles (-1) @ Atlanta Falcons

    Monday 19th September

    1:30am

    New York Giants (-6)

As a betting man, going to go for Saints -6; Packers -9; Cowboys-3 and Lions -9.

Oakland Raiders @ Buffalo Bills - Still big question marsk fo the Bills run defence. I expect us to bound it often with DMAC and wear them down, if we can grab a lead I think we could hold onto it and sneak this one. I'd be confident of our front four getting good pressure on fitzpartick aswell.

Green Bay Packers (-9.5) @ Carolina Panthers - Should be a good win for Packers here. Newton will find it alot tougher against Raji, Matthews, Woodson and co.
Kansas City Chiefs @ Detroit Lions - Chiefs are terrible. There secondary without Berry is even worse now and CJ will torch them.
Cleveland Browns @ Indiniapolis Colts - Suck for Luck and Colts take the lead. Brown should have enough for them. Colts D is very poor.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Minnesota Vikings (-3) - Vikings really need Peterson to step up as McNabb is done in this league.
Chicago Bears @ New Orleans Saints - Should be a great game, think Bears might sneak this as Saints secondary is just so poor. Brees will need to be lights out again to keep them in it.
Jacksonville Jaguars @ New York Jets - Should be comfortable for Jets.
Seattle Seahawks @ Pittsburgh Steelers I expect a huge backlash from the Steelers.
Baltimore Ravens (-5.5) @ Tennessee Titans - Ravens should win this comfortable but road trips are always difficult in the nfl. Back to back 3 TD performances from Flacco would be a huge boast for the team aswell.
Arizona Cardinals @ Washington Redskins - Was very impressed and surprised by the skins, I think they'll clinch this against a poor Cards team.

    9:05pm/9:15pm

Dallas Cowboys (-3) @ San Francisco 49ers = Romo needs a win and performance here.
Cincinatti Bengals @ Denver Broncos Bruce Gradkowski starting for the Bengals is a big blow for Cincy chances of winning here.
Houston Texans (-3) @ Miami Dolphins - Dolphins secondary got worked badly by Brady, having to face AJ won't help them.
San Diego Chargers @ New England Patriots Pats should have enough for them hopefully.

    1:20am

Philadelphia Eagles (-1) @ Atlanta Falcons - home coming for Vick. I thought the Falcons were over-rated coming into this season and nothing has changed. They might well struggle to make the play-offs now.

    Monday 19th September

    1:30am

St. Louis Rams @ New York Giants Rams with no WR and a injured Bradford won't have a chance here.

It's unanimous then. Yee all have the Chargers getting beat by the Pats?. I know some have said Chargers to cover the spread though.

Should be a great game. Really looking forward to it. For us it is all about containing Brady to some degree. Our O should have their way with the Pats D.

Oakland Raiders @ Buffalo Bills : This could be pretty close game , i expect Oakland to get at Fitzy more but the improved pass rush to affect DMC so i say Oakland narrowly

Green Bay Packers @ Carolina Panthers: I expect the Packers secondary to negate Newton somewhat through the air but his ability on the ground plus some pounding in the running game keeps Carolina close till half-time , double scores win to GreenBay

Kansas City Chiefs @ Detroit Lions: Kansas will go back to first principles and with disquiet at Haley starting to build he hands the ball an awful lot to Charles and play-action ...but Suh & Co wreak havoc so Detrioit by 10 .

Cleveland Browns @ Indiniapolis Colts: That big offensive Line (their 1 strong suit) for Cleveland should handle the smaller Indy defense and should allow McCoy a lot of time ...i think Cleveland could sneak this by a field goal

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Minnesota Vikings: I think J Freeman is due a good day if not a trademark 2nd half revival and those high draft picks on defense have a good day , Tampa by ten with McNabb having another bad day

Chicago Bears @ New Orleans Saints : Chicago if they play on defense like they did last week and Urlacher and Peppers have season like last week , they will only get beat by the marquee teams, with Colston being gone and the Saints defense not making plays , a narrow win for Chicago.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ New York Jets : Jaguars will pound the ball all day and i expect a pick six , return or interception to decide this by the Jets secondary , Jets by a touchdown

Seattle Seahawks @ Pittsburgh Steelers. The O Line for Seattle are atrocious and the Steelers will make hay coupled with a good day for Wallace...big Steelers win and a good day for C Whitehurst

Baltimore Ravens @ Tennessee Titans: Everyone speaks about Ravens D but it was a the O Line and McKinnie for me ...giving Flacco time that he hasnt always had , couple that with a big RayRice day , ravens win by 15.

Arizona Cardinals @ Washington Redskins (-3.5): Two teams rebuilding and Redskins might be a little further down the line , a close Redskins win.

    9:05pm/9:15pm

Dallas Cowboys @ San Francisco 49ers: Romo will have a more solid day with Austin having a good day . Dallas to win easily.

Cincinatti Bengals @ Denver Broncos: I expect a no frills John Fox game-plan here with Orton managing the game , Denver to win a little ugly .

Houston Texans @ Miami Dolphins: Miami played Pats better than score suggested but Texans are looking good both sides of the ball, with free agents and draft picks improving them significantly.. Texans by a field goal. Someone said Nate Solder looked like an AllPro versus Wake but i think Solder will be an Allpro, Wake will have a better day but come up short

San Diego Chargers @ New England Patriots :Does anyone else think the relative strength of a pass rush with SanDiego might have an effect on this game , that is if another SpecialTeams booboo doesnt hobble them again ...Pats win close in a slugfest

    1:20am

Philadelphia Eagles @ Atlanta Falcons: I see Vick doing well in this improving on last week with McCoy & Jackson having a great day ...eagles for me

    Monday 19th September

    1:30am

St. Louis Rams @ New York Giants: Does anyone remember how unmolested THightower was running right up the throat of of the Giants last week , with no-one injured coming back for Giants expect the Rams even without SJack to do the same ...rams by 3

As a Chargers fan i'm quite optimistic about this game, we completely outplayed the Pats last year but lost the game by giving up 3 fumbles and an interception, which lead to 17points scored. Brady threw for less than 160yards, Rivers for 336.
The SD defence matches up pretty well against the Pats although the tight-ends might give us trouble. I think if the Chargers can get any sort of production from the running backs then they should win, no rushes for loss would be nice.
And i don't buy into this slow start thing with SD, Takeo Spikes has brought a whole new intensity to the defence that was missing the last few years and that'll lessen the reliance on the offence to score.
I could be eating my words on Sunday evening but can't help but be pretty confident. Go Bolts

Oakland Raiders @ Buffalo Bills : should be an easy Bills win
Green Bay Packers @ Carolina Panthers: Packers are the team to beat this year , this should be a gimme for them
Kansas City Chiefs @ Detroit Lions: Lions at home, should win
Cleveland Browns @ Indiniapolis Colts: after the colts disaster last week , they really need to pick it up this week , the question is can they .........no a shock on the cards here
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Minnesota Vikings: I see the vikings winning this one
Chicago Bears @ New Orleans Saints : We played fantastic last week against the Falcons, so there is no reason why we cannot win this one .
Jacksonville Jaguars @ New York Jets : Jets easy win
Seattle Seahawks @ Pittsburgh Steelers. the steels should win this one
Baltimore Ravens @ Tennessee Titans: Baltimore looks class last week , and shuld win this one , but it could be close
Arizona Cardinals @ Washington Redskins the skins to win
Dallas Cowboys @ San Francisco 49ers: this game could end up going to OT
Cincinatti Bengals @ Denver Broncos: Home win
Houston Texans @ Miami Dolphins: confidence in the texans camp is very high , can see away win here .
San Diego Chargers @ New England Patriots , Hard to look past the Pat's at home

Philadelphia Eagles @ Atlanta Falcons: this could be a basketbal type score , falcons just shading it
St. Louis Rams @ New York Giants: I would expect the Giants to win this one , but the defence has more hole's than swiss cheese ........................gonna be a close one

Undrafted free agent rookie Byron Bell will be lining up opposite Clay Matthews on Sunday as Jeff Otah is out with a concussion. Packers at -9.5 could be the easiest money all season.

Despite the need for a CB, TE and LB I'm still confident of beating the Rams. The whole team played poor last week and I'd be fairly hopeful of rectifying that putting in a good performance at home this time out.

    Playoffs here we come!

Pains me to say this but Impressive drive by Newton and the Panthers. Some excellent plays by the QB and impressive play calling by the Panthers throwing everything underneath the DBs

As a doubter I am happy he is. If you are going to come into the NFL you have to prove us wrong and make stamp on your position in the Pros.

Fair fúcks to him for sure. He is playing extremely smart football.

Saints D got called for a weak roughing the passer call on Cutler. What's happening to the NFL :(. There was NOTHING wrong with the hit.

Lead to a 8 yard TD pass from Cutler to the undrafted rookie Dane Sanzenbacher :)

Yeah man that was never a late hit. The referees in my mind are confused as to what is and isnt a late hit anymore. Lack of consistency all over the place with calls.

Really nice drive at the end of the 1st for the Colts.

EDIT: Ugh, can't get the first down. FG is good. 0-6 Colts.
