Fitness progress advice

    Hi all

I've been a lurker on here for a while and am now looking for advice.

I've always been very unfit and very unathletic. I'm a little overweight, have poor cardio fitness, and very poor physical stregnth.

I have committed to an intensive six month fitness programme as I want to significantly change how I feel and look. I've joined a gym, am looking for a personal trainer, and am going to go see a nutritionist.

My question is how to go about setting achievable goals. I'm sure a personal trainer could help me set goals and I understand that you may not want to offer advice without knowing my history, but I'd appreciate some guidance.

I'd like to get a good level of cardio fitness, lose body fat, and increase muscle mass. Specifically, I'd like to be able to complete a 10km run, reduce body fat from over 20% to about 15% or less, and add a couple of inches to my chest, shoulders, biceps, and forearms.

So imagine a bloke with extremely poor cardio fitness and very poor phycical strength, who is not at all naturally athletic. How achievable are those goals with an intensive six month fitness programme, no other distractions, a personal trainer, and a good diet? Remember I have a very poor starting point indeed.

    Any advice is welcome.

    Thanks very much.
