Germany commissioner wants to humiliate Ireland officially!

GERMANY’S EUROPEAN COMMISSIONER has lent his voice to demands that the national flags of all bailed-out European Union member states be flown at half-mast at EU buildings.

Günther Oettinger told German media last Friday that the move would “be a big deterrent” to those countries – which he called “deficit sinners” – who cannot keep control of their financial affairs, though he admitted that it would “just be a symbol”.
    http://www.thejournal.ie/germanys-eu-commissioner-wants-irish-flag-flown-at-half-mast-225071-Sep2011/

In other words, he wants to shame Ireland and stick our imposed shame on a pole so that others can see it.
He wants to humilate us (and others) it looks like, to me!

With all due respect to the rest of all good and better German people - this guy is an utter gobschite!
If he wants to do something with an Irish flag pole - he should try shoving it up his ass!

To be honest, they are probably paying for the flag and the flagpole...

Ah to be honest Ireland doesn't need any help with humiliation.

Just look at Jedward, Dustin in the Eurovision and our Government.

I'd love for us just to leave the euro and have the whole thing ****ing collapse around them.

I'd also be scared ****less at the same time. But how's never.

    Heres a proposal.

All the flags of countries that tried to commit genocide should also be flown at half mast.

We should do this only make the flagpole 2.1 times higher.

If Cunther follows through on his proposal, shouldn't his own country's flag be permanently at halfmast due to the shame they have brought on THE HUMAN RACE, after all, it'd just be a symbol, right?
I wonder what would have happened to Germany if billions hadn't been pumped into the ****hole 60+ years ago??

Grrr to German Commissioner ass*holes (although we had toothy McCreepey and Wiggy Flynn so glasshouses and all that...)

This guy is a joke in his own country,
In a leaked diplomatic cable from the United States embassy cable entitled "Lame Duck German Governor Kicked Upstairs as New Energy Commissioner in Brussels," Deputy Chief of Mission in Germany, Greg Delawie notes that "Chancellor Angela Merkel nominated Baden-Wuerttemberg (BW) Minister President Guenther Oettinger as EU Energy Commissioner primarily to remove an unloved lame duck from an important CDU bastion." Before going on to claim "Oettinger is noted for a lackluster public speaking style, and some commentators have asserted that Merkel, who has often stood out at EU meetings, wanted to appoint a German Commissioner who would not outshine her."
I wouldnt take any notice, he is not indicative of German people

I assume (partly 'cos I know some German people) that he's in a league of his own alright - possibly a breed apart as the saying goes.

What can we expect really? He's possibly coming from a generation or background that is used to making and/or sticking symbols upon people for their own twisted ends!

surely there is enough evidence in the history books to suggest nothing but german hypocrisy between germany and the world.

From working in Germany the general feeling is:

Why are public servants paid so much?

How can most people in Ireland on social welfare make more than German minimum wage? (this relates to take home after medical insurances/tax etc)

We send you money to live like kings! (spat at me in a pub)

The situation is slowly stewing away and each time I arrive in Munich I am bombarded with questions and see more exposure on national TV.

Maybe this is what 'ol kraut britches was getting confused with...

    Horst-Wessel Lied’ - Horst Wessel (1930-45)
This song performed a dark, dubious and dangerous political function in that it provided European fascism (the lyrics were modified for use in Britain, Spain and France) with an extremely catchy song that was terrifyingly effective at galvanising a mob. Its melody was not original but was that of an old, northern European folk song taken up by the Nazi Party as its anthem between 1930 and 1945. The lyrics were written by SA commander Horst Wessel, who was murdered by an anti-fascism activist in 1930. Also known as ‘Die Fahne Hoch’ (‘The Flag on High’), its tune and lyrics are now illegal in Germany and Austria.

I don't blame them, they are at the moment keeping the whole Euro afloat with very little thanks.

People would want to wake up and realise the service Germany is doing us.

They want shot of the Euro and when they eventually have had enough and return to their mighty Mark the P.I.G.S and more of Europe will experience genuine poverty, a genuine disaster.

If I was a german I would want out of the Euro.

    Silly Günther stop short.

A better plan is for citizens from these countries to wear an armband when travelling within the non-bailout countries. Ireland's can be a green armband with a harp.

This way the superior EU citizens can easily point out and ridicule people from the bailout counties.

Aren't they a big manufacturing country?

Wouldn't a strong currency destroy them if the eurozone fells apart considering other countries couldn't afford to import from them.

Indeed not but if you read my post, you would have read what I actually stated: "coming from a generation or background..."
    /end of.

I know a good few german people and I can easily accept that he's one of very much a minority in these wacky thoughts.

    QUOTE]

Not only did Germany receive billions under the Marshall Plan but at a international conference in London in 1954 Germany received debt forgiveness of 50% for its World War Two debts.

Its only 10 years ago when Germany's budget deficit was above the allowed level under the Euro rules and it ran that way for years.

Why do Germans get so excited when it comes to flags?
