Using a Dictaphone in Lectures

Just wondering if it is ok to record lectures or should you ask permission first? In both first and second year I only missed about two days but, as my daughter is expecting a baby within the next couple of months, I may miss more this year. I was hoping to ask a friend who is doing the same course to record any lectures I may miss at these times, would this be ok with lecturers?

It's best to ask.
AFAIK most lecturers don't mind, but I've seen one of mine specifically ask people not to record him.

I'd imagine the majority wouldn't mind. You would have to ask them first though.

I remember in first year being told that it's not really welcomed in third year Psychology because they explore some pretty deep issues and people mightn't want outsiders to be hearing the recordings.

Ask the lecturer beforehand, they'll accomodate you in some way I'm sure.

This question was asked amongst the group I was in for orientation and we were told to ask and not just assume it's ok. Most lecturers are ok with it but some are not, hope this helps.
