forgot all about this, gametrailers.com have got their review up, not a bad review but disappointingly doesnt go into the HD graphics and more importantly, is the framerate improved for SOTC?

    http://www.gametrailers.com/video/review-ico-shadow/720406

according to gamefaqs.com, the collection is out on the 30th.

im going travelling soon so this will have to wait for me but these games were stone-cold classics. I loved them nearly as much as the Shenmue series, they go above and beyond expectations of a mere videogame.

take a break from aim/shoot/kill FPS, this is a real must-have for any serious gamer

According to the GiantBomb quick look it has. I don't really remember the frame rate getting me down when I played it originally. Maybe I just didn't notice.

second link i posted has comparsions between PS2 and PS3 remake. Ico seems to have enjoyed better of the remake work and is native 1080p, SOTC is 720p.

Framerate was a massive issue for SOTC, the game stuttered in framerate quite often, the game was a bit too ambitious for an aging PS2.

The Eurogamer review said SOTC was better in 720p than 1080p (my understanding anyway).

Which makes you wonder why they even put a 1080p option in.

It's a bigger number and people are stupid.

While there is no doubting that these HD games look better than the originals, the thing i like it they look as you remember the original. You get to play a classic game and never have a nasty surprise when it's aged badly and does not stand up to your memory.

It looks great. I absolutely love these games!

It's bloody amazing that they achieved this level of visual fidelity with (mostly) the original art assets.

Shows you just how epic Team Ico's vision is!

    I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS!
Seriously, after ten years of not owning them and having to borrow them from various sources, I can finally get my hands on Ico and SOTC.
That and they both look beautiful in HD

I wouldn't, when the Aggro horse armour DLC comes out it wont be compatible with your NTSC version.

Yeah, hopefully the zombie map packs won't be worth buying.

Yeah, hopefully the zombie map packs won't be worth buying.

I heard they add absolutely nothing of any note to the game, a bunch of zombified versions of the King's men and all you can do is hit them with a wooden stick.

The zombie Yorda mode is a clever, subversive and emotive thematic addition according to Edge, though.

Anyone got Instore prices for these yet see Smyths are selling it for 34.99 waiting on other prices just to see if they are cheaper

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    39.99 in my local Gamestop.
I'll be interested to see what HMV have it for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

My local HMV (Crescent SC, Limerick) didn't have it.
Any other instore prices known? Still 39.99 in Gamestop.

    FYI

For anyone attempting to download the bonus content (making-of videos, dynamic themes etc.), you won't be able to do so until Monday October 10th due to a "technical issue".

    €39.99 in Xtravision too.
No sign of it in my local Tesco or HMV either. Was hoping to find it for about €29.99 or €34.99 in HMV as it's on their web store for about £27

€34.99 in Smyths is the best deal I think.
Looking forward a few hours of this tonight. :)

Seen a few on my friends list playing and the game shows up with the game code as well as the full title, haven't seen that before.

Thanks for that! I was wondering why my code wasn't working
And how's everyone finding it? Both games look really good, but I wish they'd polished up the controls a bit more, especially in SOTC. If I'm honest I don't really care how detailed a Colossus' armpit hair is when I want to climb in one direction and Wanderer won't cooperate :P

Picked it up earlier, its been about 3 years since I last played either of them, still two absolute masterpieces.

I had forgotten how awful the controls in SOTC were. Still a classic though. :)

would it be the same game without them though? the only thing that still wrecks my head is when you aim the bow it doesnt default to what you were looking at previously, so you wind up looking in the other direction half the time

They could have tweaked them though. I mean I had to flip the X and Y axis on the right stick because they are different to every other 3D game released in the last 10 years.

At the very least, they could have fixed Agro. :)

Saw they had this in Smyths Carrickmines for 31 with loyalty card. Was very, very tempted (ended up getting a different game back from the States!) but really should save my money...

I'll just keep reading this thread until you guys persuade me otherwise :P

I only played Ico to the halfway mark when first released, and completely missed out on SoTC.

I'm off sick from work today with two cracked ribs, (Due to gravitational forces combined with socially imbibed liquid nectar on my stag do.)
The pain is incredible, breathing is painful. And coughing or sneezing.....woo-whee, I can't even describe the agony of that. I haven't slept in two nights as I can't even lie down.

Playing SoTC now for the last hour.
I may crack another rib or two later in the week if I haven't finished it yet.

It's supposed to be like that though, like you're controlling Wander controlling Agro, not controlling Agro directly. I like it anyways, especially when you're at full gallop going across one of the land bridges weaving in and out of the curves, feels awesome. I think it would loose that feeling of 'I am controlling this horse' if they 'fixed' Agro.

I finished SotC the other day, it's never going to be as moving as the first time I played through it but it was still fantastic. In HD there were a few more details I could make out though which was pretty cool.

Caved in an traded a few games for this. Played about a half an hour of ico. The atmosphere is as amazing as I remember, incredible stuff. Gonna finish this over tonight and move on to colossus tomorrow

HMV wont be stocking this "for the foreseeable future" apparently, no real reason forthcoming.

Picked it up off amazon for around €35, looking forward to getting hold of it having heard nothing but great things about it for years now.

enjoy, its definitely slow paced for the most part but the world itself is fantastic looking and every colossi encounter is an epic moment.

Still enjoying the originals. As above the controls do stink - but if you think back to what else was out there at the time these were released - utter masterpieces.

As far as I remember neither did too well - got a bit of a cult following but neither blew the markets apart.

As long as my old 2nd hand PS2 holds together I will hold off on getting the remasters - but definitely a pair I will pick up when it finally dies.

none, unless its some super collectible doohickey thats gonna sell out, walk in buy on release day, simples.

As Krudler said, other than extra stuff there's generally no point in pre-ordering. Also waiting allows for price cuts for less popular but well-stocked titles. :)
