Top Premier footie ace is 'on cocaine'

    TV show will name
    him tonight

The identity of a top Premier League footballer who tested positive for cocaine will be revealed tonight.
He was later sold by his club in a multimillion pound deal but his new team were not told of the drug test, a TV investigation claims.

The star will be named by Channel 4 show Dispatches as it focuses on the use of recreational and performance-enhancing drugs in football.

The show claims to have discovered the identities of dozens of footballers who have failed drugs tests for cocaine and cannabis.

Their names have been kept secret by the Football Association and their clubs.

It is also claimed 240 drugs tests had to be abandoned between April 2007 and August 2010 after officials turned up at training grounds to discover the players were not there.

The show claims to have official documents that show three former England internationals and one Scottish star faced doping investigations after suspicious levels of testosterone were found in their urine.

All four were later cleared of wrongdoing.

David Howman of the World Anti Doping Agency said the FA needed to be more open about drug testing.

He added: "If you don't, then you are susceptible to an allegation you're hiding something."

The FA said it abides by the World Anti Doping Agency code.

    Wonder who it is?

EDIT: Just saw the Dispatches thread. Never mind.

A very tall Geordie would be my guess.

I'm looking forward to finding out who it is though.

Ha that's who immediately came to my mind also but apparently the player's outline is this.

240 players miss drugs tests and nothing gets done about it ? Rio got a 8 month ban for that .

John Terry, sure his father gives him the stuff for free:D

...Only joking, he has to pay for it

For the unfortunate ones that missed it, who was it?

Fernando Torres?? after all something has to be affecting his performance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,313 ✭✭✭AstonMartin

I dont care if they all decide to do recreational drugs as long as it doesnt affect performance on the pitch.

The plot thickens my friends! :D

Anyway, this programme has the makings of being self-righteous tripe. As long as the stimulants are not performance enhancing, I could care less if a footballer wants to go down to the drugs route.

I doubt the outline is the actual player at all, but the first name that came to mind when I saw it was a young C Ronaldo, with the hair. He doesn't seem the type to be into drugs though, probably the last lad you'd expect actually.

Considering he doesn't even drink, I'd be amazed.

Exactly. The outline does look like him though back in the early days.

    Could the outline be Nani?

He has a similarly weird barnet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,560 ✭✭✭Wile E. Coyote

If he tested positive then why wasn't it all over the papers already and why hasn't he been banned from playing?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,252 ✭✭✭✭stovelid

That outline is probably not real, just tiding them over until they get the dirt on who they want. I doubt the tabloid involved would be beating around the bush if it had solid proof of the drug use.

I despise the moralist shit of uncovering casual drug use (often by people who probably beat into the coke themselves) but you would wonder why footballers can't just hold off until their mid 30s and then they would have the means and time to party as much as they like.

That's who I thought but as has been said it's probably just a generic outline.

as i said in the other thread the outline url is from the suns dream team, nobody has ever suggested thats the player.

Could it be anyone but a Man United player I wonder?

What would make you think it's a Man Utd player?

That's who it looks most like but the player in question has apparently been sold recently so that would rule him out.

Nani is very much like Ronaldo in the way he looks after himself so he would be an unlikely candidate anyway.

Why are soccer authorities testing players for non-performance enhancing substances?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

The player was sold this calender year for a sum over 10 million but probably not a Torres/Carroll type number as that would have been flagged for its news value. Also I doubt he is an England international as there would already be chit chat about a super-injunction if that were the case.

I would guess Mr. Andy Carrol.

    Its clearly Bebe

He doesn't have a bindle in the outline so it clearly isn't the littlest hobo! :p

    raul meireles??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 170 ✭✭YodaBoy

Looks like Mikel to me, but no multi-million pound transfer there. Sturridge is another one with probable cause and a wiry hairstyle :P Although I'm not sure a loan move to Bolton equates to a big-money move. :P Carroll is my guess presuming the picture is misleading...

    raul meireles??

has been mentioned on a few websites as has Gyan.

Would doubt its from one of the top clubs though, would have leaked by now.

    raul meireles??

That would turn that transfer into a great bit of business.

Yeah, Meireles is probably the one who has been mentioned the most on twitter.

Would make sense in a way. There was constantly noises throughout the Summer from Liverpool that he was for sale despite him being one of their best players last year. They then they apparently want to keep him but he leaves because he hands in a transfer request at the last minute? Strange goings on tbh.

    Probably isn't him though:pac:

I don't get this, if someone tested positive to a banned substance then surely they would have been punished by now.

He's probably appealing on the account that his wife used the cocaine for losing weight and thats delaying it.

Doubt it's Meireles, he hasn't been playing like someone with this hanging over him.

jeez i would not like like to try and play a game of footy on coke. it'd be one of the most horrible feelings i could think of.

actually didn't nuts or zoo magazine do a report on it few years back too and got one of their staffers to try it. didn't work well
