    Hi,
I've just done a PC restore on my Dell Dimensions E521 (Windows XP) in an effort to speed the thing up..all ok up until the point of restoring my backed up files using the files and setting transfer wizard. It doesnt recognise the backup file which has been saved to my removable HDD. I try to restore the USMT2.UNC file which I created using the wizard before restoring but it says the location I stated does not contain stored information. The folder does contain 24 .DAT files which were created at the right time/date

    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Lou

Hi Lou, if possible can you try opening the .dat files in something like 7 Zip, its possible these files are just archives containing all your files, and may be easily extracted leaving you with a copy of the backed up files :)

When you are entering the location for the saved data do not specify the location of the USMT2.UNC file itself but specify the folder or location where it can be found.

Try PC System Restore to an earlier date/time might help retrieve the files.
