I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke.

never met him. He looks like a bald cnut tho, so, no, I don't like him. His music is pretty good. Well, good for a bald cnut.

What appears to be the funniest joke ever in the French language has Phil Collins as the punch line. It's something to do with shoving stuff up your arse or something, I'm not really sure what. But I once sat at a table full of French people who were reduced to tears they laughed so much at it. Personally speaking, there are no words to adequately describe my dislike of Phil Collins.

    This man is my hero.

Sorry but how can someone not like this

    /floats on air

Yep. My secret shame since I was a kid. I admit it now because the amount of airtime he gets on radio nova makes me know I'm not alone. And Jesus, he knows I'm right.

    Sorry.

Works better within the confines of a group though, yeah? You think Invisible Touch was that group's undisputed masterpiece too, don't ya?

I've heard some bad things about Phil Collins, but most of it is nonce sense.

I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke.

I'd to actually do a google search to see how many of Genesis/Phil Collins songs I would actually know. Of those I did recognise,

    no. I wouldn't be a fan.

    From American psycho people.

"Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your asshole. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite."

Bit of a casual fan really, but I do adore 'Going loco down in Acapulco' which I believe he wrote for the Four Tops.

Every time Phil Collins makes a record, a new born baby dies.

Which is unfortunate for the parents, but a lucky escape for the baby as he / she will never have to hear a Phil Collins song, ever.

Groovy Kinda Love was my first dance song on my Wedding Day. Nice lyrics, nice song, but couldn't give a flying **** about Phil Collins.

I'm enmeshed in a possibly familiar subcultural conundrum where I'm implacably opposed to Phil on an idealogical basis but find myself clandestinely addicted to chart smashes such as Sussudio, One More Night and Separate Lives.

It's a damn shame that more people didn't make this connection immediately.

Dirty burger would really hit the spot about now.

I like Phil Collins - so long as he stays behind the drums and doesn't say anything.

Thread should be retitled, "Do you admit to liking Phil Collins?"

I think a lot of people (Although i can't speak for anyone) Like at least 2 of his songs...

Unless his massive selling albums were a lie, and never crossed over to the next generation, i.e. NOTHING of his, even remotely was passed on to people as a kid listening to the radio.

He wouldn't have got near todays X-Factory.

He would need to be 30 years younger (Then he was in the 80's), have no musical talent/knowledge, (And he definitely cannot have been in a band previously).
He would have to look like he just walked out of a chartbusters tanning salon, and got his hair implants done in Xtravision, and spiked, then brushed to the side, then baggy jeans at the top, getting very tight at the ankles, so it looks like he's wearing a nappy.

Wear a couple of bracelets, or "wrist bands", as is the term nowadays, (from the rubber crap that was a fad for charities a few years back)

Then, and only then, he might be cool enough for anyone to admit liking.

Also, he'd have to keep pushng his left sleeve up when he's talking.

Dunno why, but it looks cool.

Most important, is the looks. He has to look like described above.. It doesn't matter how he sounds.

Apparently that was actually Phil Collins in costume. Or maybe with his shirt off, I'm not sure tbh.

I like a few of Genesis songs like Watcher of the Skies (Excellent drum into by Phil Collins):

And I like a couple of his solo songs like the obligatory In the Air Tonight and Against the Odds.

    That's about it.

New stuff is rubbish - stuff like In The Air Tonight is legendary and far better than most current chart tripe.

As for why wearing bangles should make his music somehow better, that's beyond logic.....even if meant wearing Suzanna Hoffs, the music would be no different.

I like Phil Collins but I have come across people who deny liking Phil Collins.
My sister in laws ex left a Phil Collins greatest hits tape in my house one night after a few drinks. To cut a long story short a group of us were out together and headed back to my house for a few drinks and I said " hey you left your Phil Collins greatest hits tape here".
The ex said "thats not mine". I thought but it is why are you being weird. He turned beetroot and said "no thats not mine" so I said "OK".

This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

Everything that was wrong with 80s popular music in one song - over produced dross with horrible sounding programmed drums & god awful keyboard sounds masking as brass instruments.

The melody / vocals are not all that bad, but by fuck does the music sound terrible.

Hey man, the cheesy sound is part of this songs appeal for me. There is something about that cheesy 80s sound that just sounds good to me.

A prime example of good 80s music.

Loathe Phil Collins and the ' nice guy ' image he tried to cultivate , I was profoundly satisfied when the tabloids exposed him as a philandering egotistical dickhead.

I reckon he overdid the whole hair transplant thing. I was shocked when i saw him performing 'In the air tonight' on that Cadburys ad. He looked like a feckin' gorilla.
