Hideous things you don't see in houses anymore

Some things never go out of style, but other fads come & go and some should never, ever come back... so what are the hideous things you remember from houses as a kid that you don't see anymore?

A few I can think of are...

Coloured toilets, sinks & baths (usually in pink or pine green)
    Linoleum
    Net curtains

My house is lovely and modern, I'll have you know sir!

The nets are just plain white, not lacy and the lino is chequered terracotta and white, to go with the terracotta walls.

What am I supposed to have instead??

3 framed pictures in the living room.

One was J.F. Kennedy, one was Pope John Paul II, and one was Éamon de Valera.

I thought the idea of them was so folks couldn't see in your windows and watch you dance around the sitting room wearing nothing but your socks.

Those awful tweed couches/sofa sets from the '80's, any thing leather or faux leather that isn't black or brown....cream/avocado/peach coloured Oh Dear God. (match the bathroom suites you mentioned)
50's Tiled Mantelpieces...were never gonna work. Wooden Slatted doors over your Kitchen white goods, not attached - you had to open them first and then open your fridge door like shutters....aarrgghh

Thatched roofs (except in novelty pubs)

    Feckin doileys (sp?) underneath everything

And those filthy fly tapes hanging from the ceiling

And just the genral brown/beige colour schemes although I live in a house now that is full of it and a recent guest described it as 'wonder years chic'

Yep - works a treat for that. Also, when the TV licence inspector calls, my nets act as an inpenetrable shield :D

I would say carpets in bathrooms - yuck!

I never understood those mats for around the toilet. Obviously they were designed by a woman who has never lived with a man...

My Nana had Pope Pious, I think it was, and the three kennedy brothers...hanging on the wall.

I hated those religious pictures were the eyes follwed you or in the Jesus one they opened and shut. Scary bastard pictures.

I also hated ceiling tiles, at least one or two where always a bit loose,

twin tub washing machines which took up half the kitchen.

Bahaha my parents house has an avocado bathroom suite, net curtains on EVERY window and lino in kitchen and bathroom. Classy! They're not even old, just not into decorating.

I used to have a red lightbulb as the only light source in my bedroom for years when I was a teenager.

I liked to think it was cool as it made the place look dark & seedy, which went along with my Velvet Underground & The Cure posters.

However, deep down I knew that it was shite because I couldn't see a fucking thing when I was in there.

Our toilet is avacado green, doesn't really bother me,hides the stains better then white and helps us cut down on costly toilet brush expenses,we are in a recession after all!

    Sideboards

Beauty board (like wood effect panelling on the walls).

    Carpets everywhere

    Single glazing

Spiky plaster ceilings which would burst balloons.
