Stoke v Liverpool 3 pm

First proper test of Liverpool this season I think, can [insert name here] do it at the Britannia Stadium on a wet Saturday afternoon? Won't even try to guess Stokes line up but I imagine Crouch will get a berth. While Carroll needs a goal I'm willing see him sit this one out until late on as I'd prefer to see guile unlock the Shawcross/Woodgate central defence. I can see Carroll getting frustrated rather than inspired.

    Reina
    Johnson--Carra--Agger--Enrique
    Rooney*
    Adam
    Henderson
    Downing
    Kuyt--Suarez

Subs Doni, Skrtel, Spearing, Shelvey, Flanagan, Bellamy, Carroll

One of the toughest away challanges of the season IMO but with the way Kenny has us playing I really think we will win this one.Far from easy mind you,but very winable all the same.
    Cant wait for it

Coates to score on his debut from a corner .

    2-1 Liverpool .

I'm looking forward to this, Stoke have a lot of haters, but I really enjoy watching them play and admire their approach. Pulis is a decent head and he has brought in some quality over the summer, crowd does be great too.

1 nil to Stoke, Crouch to score.

How can anybody enjoy watching Stoke play, they play some of the least attractive football the premier league has seen since Wimbledon.

Fair play to Pulis, he has done a great job in building a team that is effective at getting results, I wont knock him for that. But their football is about as attractive as Mary Harneys growler!!

That's a bit of a myth I think that grew from their initial approach when promoted. Granted I don't watch them every week, but they're hardly Wimbledon. Quiet often when I watched them last season they played decent football

I'm looking forward to this, glad the internationals are over.

Stoke will test us, but i think we should be able to get a win.

Bellamy and Carroll will probably be brought on later in the game and that will really destroy the already exhausted defense from running after Suarez and Kuyt for 70 minutes.

    Liverpool to win 2-0.

    Gerrard is not back yet?

3-1 for Liverpool I reckon and Luis to take another step towards claiming player of the year.

He'll win it every time. And Delap can put it exactly where he wants it.

Also 'Crouch is rubbish at heading the ball' is a bit of a myth. Hes just not as good as people expect someone of his height to be.

no he is really terrible at it. He'd only need to be decent in the air and he would score way more than he does

Liverpool to win 2-0. Suarez will get the first and Downing next, who will finally open he's scoring account for the club.

Wonder will we throw Coates in at the deep end? His height would be quite useful against Stoke.

I think the selection tomorrow will tell us how confident Kenny is that the side is developing as he wants it to. I think it's fairly evident that he's building a side in his own image, with the idea being we go out and play our game and let the opposition worry about us. It's refreshing. We're definitely not there yet so it'll be interesting to see whether we try to mix and match to neutralise Stoke or whether we do our own thing.

I think later in the season we'd probably do our own thing but tomorrow I wouldn't be surprised if we went 3-5-2.

Delap is an injury worry, and the effect of his throw ins is overstated anyway.
Crouch weakens Stoke for me, Carragher will deal with him very easily - in the same way Carvalho used to own him when we played Chelsea. He can win whatever he wants, we just need to make sure he's off balance when he does it. He's a ****e header of a ball anyway, so off balance he's not a threat.

Stoke generally play a fairly deep midfield, they don't press all that much and tend to cede territory. If they do that again tomorrow, Adam and Lucas will cause them problems - particularly if we have the movement of Kuyt, Henderson and Suarez ahead of them.

    We'll win.

(I'm aware I sound way too confident above;))

Shotton can do the epic throws as well.

Hasn't Carra got an OG from one of Delap's or am I mixing up situations?

    Stoke at 11/5 for me.

It wouldn't surprise me given the amount he has.

0-3 to the reds. Can see Carroll scoring a couple after all the hulla bolloo this week it's just how football works.

He's decent at flick ons but is woeful when it comes to heading to score, amount of weak headed attempts I've seen him waste, no doubt he'll get one today somehow!

Lol at people predicting comfortable 0-3 wins.

This will be a tight game and will probably be a draw or decided by the odd goal.

Stoke is never the easiest place to go to anyway and it's definitely not an ideal trip after midweek internationals.

Don't like Skrtel at RB. He was ok in the last game when he had to cover there, but his other past performances in that position were terrible. I could see Etherington getting some joy down that flank if he is playing.

Potentially three ex LFC players in the Stoke squad today

I'd say Dirk will be helping Skrtel out alot today

srktel right-back? yikes i dont like that...johnson, kelly, flanagan, even carra are better options right-back

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,438 ✭✭✭5live

Could it be a 5-3-2 with kuyt up front and henderson at right wing? Not happy with Skrtel at right fullback if 4 at the back

Craig Bellamy and Sebastian Coates have been named on the bench for Liverpool's Barclays Premier League clash at Stoke City - listen live online from 2.55pm.

Kenny Dalglish makes just one change to the side that started against Bolton last time out, with Martin Skrtel replacing Martin Kelly.

Liverpool: Reina, Enrique, Skrtel, Carragher, Agger, Downing, Henderson, Lucas, Adam, Kuyt, Suarez. Subs: Doni, Carroll, Johnson, Maxi, Spearing, Bellamy, Coates.

#SCFC XI: Begovic, Huth, Shawcross, Upson, Wilson, Pennant, Delap, Whitehead, Etherington, Walters, Crouch

Delap plays, good team on paper. This is a very tough fixture.

not a bad team but their back four has 4 Centre-Halfs starting(where have we seen that before) and i reckon they are well poor in Centre-Midfield. Limit Walters and Crouch's supply and we should be fine

Reckon Walters will be up for this game. Born in Merseyside and an Everton supporter.

It is a Stoke team with quite a few useful players in it. Wilson, Etherington, Shawcross, Begovic, and Walters are all good players, and the likes of Delap, Crouch, and Upson when on form are very effective.

Good tough away test for Liverpool today, followed by another tough away game against Spurs.

Tis possible that Carra could be playing RB today, not likely I know, but possible.

That looks like a strong Stoke team too, hopefully we do the biz today to keep the momentum going

Huth at RB is a big exploit for us.

    Field day for Suarez/Downing

Any streams yet chaps? Not in Ireland so cant watch it on the box

Looking forward to this game! Stoke away is a tough one, but I hope we can keep the pressure up, keep the passing game going and get a result.

Would be great to see Carroll and Bellamy coming on and linking up well.

And I hope Bellamy scores and does his golf club celebration!

Wilson is not a centre back, he plays equally as well in midfield as he does at full back. The other player in their team that can cover at full back is Whitehead but he is a midfielder not a centre back.

Tough assignment today but if we are serious about top 4 then this is the sort of game we need to be clinical and ruthless and come away with all 3 points .

    Bring it on .

Surprising decision not to play Carroll just purely to help on defending and attacking set pieces against a massive Stoke side, or is he hungover? :pac:
