Transfer Question

I have just paid the last installment of my fees for the course that I accepted. However, I am looking to transfer to another course, and the powers-that-be said I had to fill out a transfer application form. For this to go through you need the recommendation of your tutor, who needless to day I haven't met yet. Can this be forgone or can you meet your tutor prior to orientation week?

    Thanks

If you are seeking to transfer into the first year of another course the closing date for receipt of transfer applications is 14th October. Applications all held until this date and considered at the same time.

You should have received details of who is your tutor and when and where they will be available during Fresher's Week. If not contact the Senior Tutors Office.

Transfer forms can be downloaded from the Senior Tutor's Office website but must be signed off by your tutor before they are submitted to the Admissions Office.

So there is no chance of transferring after that? Like I was hoping to transfer too, but hopefully based on going up in points after appealing my exams and they come out after the 14th? If not on the 14th.

Thanks btw, really cleared this up for me!!

If you get an upgrade as result of your Leaving Certificate re-check appeal your application will be automatically re-assessed for the courses on your CAO application. (I am presuming that one of those is where you want to transfer into?).

The re-check results are usually out the week before so would have been dealt with before the transfer applications are reviewed.

No, I was actually thinking of transferring to a course not on my CAO but still in trinity (if I get those 5 points >.<)

...is it not possible to transfer before the 14th? If I already have the requirements and points?

    Thanks again.

So you cant avoid missing three weeks of the course that you are hoping to transfer to? On a related question, do the entry requirements strictly apply to the transfer to another course? i.e. as much as they do for the CAO

No it is not possible to transfer before the 14th October, 2011.

The CAO entry points are strictly adhered to....so you won't get a transfer into another course if you don't have the points.

so tomorrow is the closing date for transfer applications, but when do we find out if we have gotten the transfer? I was talking to a guy today who transferred to another course already...

    can anyone shed some light?

    cheers

Are you going into the course you were hoping to transfer to? I was told not to hold my breath regarding a successful transfer :(

Decisions on transfer requests will not be available until the middle of the week at the earliest.

Argh, the suspense is killing me. I'm so nervous! It's going to be a miserable enough year if I don't get a transfer. (Yes, I've literally only just made an account in order to say that.)

    Has anyone heard back yet?

Not yet. I'm refreshing my email every two seconds even though I know it's a complete waste of time. I'm actually more anxious to find out than I was with the Leaving Cert results.

I think it's sent by post (which makes it even worse!)

What are you hoping to transfer to?

Oh, really? I thought my tutor said email but they do say post on the website, so...

I'm hoping for PPES or TSM Philosophy and Economics. The latter will be particularly maddening if I don't get it because I have way more points than I'd ever have needed if I'd just failed less at CAO in the first place. What are you trying for?

I'm hoping for science, with the intention of applying for medicine next year or further down the road. I'm doing an arts course at the moment though (Psychology and English), so they said it was unlikely that I could transfer to an entirely different field, but where there is hope...

Best of luck with yours anyway, hope you get it! :)

Will ye stay in the courses ye're in now if ye aren't allowed?

I'm hoping to transfer into science too! also from TSM

According to my tutor its not unlikely at all, science has one of the highest drop out rates :)
I'm well over the points required though...totally made a mess or the CAO.

I hope we find out soon....

Wow that's great news! I rang way back in August looking to transfer before I even started :o and she said that science was over capacity, never mentioned drop-outs though, and something I never thought of either. Hope to see you in science in the near future! let me know how you get on.

Yeah they take in loads because so many drop out - science in UCD and TCD has a really high drop out rate! In UCD a friend of mine said on the first orientation lecture the main speaker said *look to the person either side of you - only one of them will be here next year* or something :)...I hope it works out! Only reason it might not would probably be because we'd have missed like 3 important weeks (freshers weeks was apparently all basic introductions)

Has anyone heard back yet? Still no word and I live, like, twenty minutes away from college.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 205 ✭✭dynamot

No, not yet. I just e-mailed the admissions officer to find out what the story is. She probably has to write out all the letters to all the applicants, hence the delay. They should just e-mail us the decision, I just want to know; yes or no!
All this red-tape is ridiculous imo

Did you ring Stephanie Farrell? The departments in question might not have heard yet but I'm pretty sure you can still find out...

Is she the one you get when you ring Undergraduate Admissions? If so, she was the one who told me the departments hadn't gotten back to them yet. Contemplating ringing again near the end of the office hours... I mean, I don't want to be a pest, but I need to know!

Does anybody know how you can transfer if you missed the dates. I am currently studying geography and sociology, however I want to change to primary school teaching. I know I'll probably have to start next year as it's too far in this tear. But I don't know how to go about changing, transfer/cao? Any help would be much appreciated. =)

No,you're unable to transfer to a different college during the year unless it's the same course and under extreme circumstances.

Drop out,and reapply through the CAO.

Talk to your tutor first though, you'll have to figure out what you'll have to pay in fees!
