First off sorry if this is in the wrong area for this :p

Been looking at this event now for nearly 3 years and I would love to attend berget 10. I was just wondering if there is any teams from Ireland planning on heading out there for this one who wouldn't mind a tag along as I can't seem to get people to go.

Also any hints, tips , advice for a newbie would be greatly appreciated such as a rough cost for whole thing, gear needed etc would be sexy :D

    cheers in advance!

Havent been there meself but do know of a few who have been and its not something to take lightly from what Ive heard. There will be an abundance of ex-military and serving military alike and the games are very military minded down to a 'T' they even do stag dutys (standing gaurd over a gate in full kit for hours.......) I have few games under me belt but would still not have ago at berget :D as fr gear well for an event such as this i would guess you would need a fairly hefty rig to carry all your mags amo rations first aid kit map compas whistle torch etc and you would want alot of mags

BUT I could be wrong just bassing this on what ive been told :)

I'd love to get out again (was at Berget 7), sadly most of the chaps I play with or would otherwise have a laugh with in the downtime are bailers.

It's not as hardcore as FUBAR makes it out, it's a large skirmish over the course of 3-4 days, yes you may end up on a gate for a day, and you may end up tabbing over rough terrain for a night, it's all down to what goes down. Definitely don't go if you're a giant pie monster in a multicam ubacs.

i heard they had helicopters with gattling guns at 7? any truth to that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 147 ✭✭Typhon

I'd have no troubles doing the duty thing, infact I would expect to do a bit of it for the experience anyway! Lol. The whole thing just seems damn cool from the rules to the location etc

Do you happen to remember the cost for your trip to b7 gerrowadat? Also do you think it would be better with a group you know?

Some of the events have a small helicopter buzzing, but it's there for game admin, not sure if it's even used ingame.

Much better with a group, there's a lots of downtime, and even getting to northern sweden takes a day or so of travel.

As for cost, well, plan on it being your summer holidays :-) 500 quid or so will get you there in one piece, everything after that is gravy (staying in stockholm, drinkin', buying **** in stockholm's many kit shops, etc.)

It wasn't used in-game. It was there for 'ambience'. It did a fly over of our base camp once that I saw anyway. TBH, there were comments in the forums that the money from the helicopter could have been better used on other things, or reducing the ticket prices. It really didn't add much to the event.

Looks like details on berget 10 will be out in 9 days. Site is due an update on the 21st!

Lets see what they give us! :p

Previous Berget threads. If your question isn't answered somewhere in these links I'd be very surprised.

    Berget 9
    Berget 8
    Berget 7 Bookings & Info
    Berget 7 general discussion
    Berget 6

The Berget 7 threads contain a wealth of travel information, there may be more recent data in the 8 or 9 threads. Plenty of reading there.

Don't forget to read the rules on the Berget website. They are updated from time to time, and you're expected to know them before you turn up.

When you purchase the ticket, you initially hold the ticket for a 30 day period and within this period you can pay in full. If you choose not to pay within the period, the ticket will be released for sale to peeps on a wait list. Gives you that lil bit of time in case you change your mind after initial purchase:)

    That's handy :p

I meant thought I need the push hehe....im sitting here looking over it going ....hmmm should I...shouldn't I

I would most definitely be interested in going. 3 Days after the LC though....
If I mange to convince my dad to come I will go, I will be a sniper though.
If I end up going we could possibly go as a group?

how old will you be fo the event>? I believe berget min age is 18 and their is no option to have a guardian tagging along to allow you to attend any younger

I will be 17 for the event. I sent them a question just there concerning this. I said my dad would be playing with me, He wouldn't mind signing any waivers and I would have insurance if necessary. I hope they can make an exception or 17 will be ok. I really do.

I got a message back. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I CANT PLAY. Ah well theres always next year...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 147 ✭✭Typhon

Puding is correct. The website states:

You must be at least 18 years old to participate in Berget-games. ALL player needs to bring valid Photo-ID or passport to checkin.

But if you meet the required ages bla bla bla and are thinking of going we signed up to be NAF 23rd infantry :D

To confirm; Berget-Events age criteria is strictly 18+, and the whole thing really isn't like a garden-variety skirmish game on a Saturday or Sunday at your local site where your dad can tag along with you and pop in and out of the game for a breather. And if you want to go play "sniper", unless you really know what you're doing with regards field-craft and technical ability, you will hate it.

Trust me mate, My dad would be able for it, as would I.
Also I wouldn't be looking for a skirmish, I'd be more full on, as in the whole waiting several hours in a ghillie suit to confirm the enemy position. And I know most missions you wouldn't even be taking a shot. And yes, I love field craft. I do know what I'm doing.

I saddens me to see people getting a sniper rifle and think they can shoot someone from a mile away and get like 100 kills in a match. It's more about reconnaissance than anything else, at least in milsim. :)

Thanks for the age confirmation thing.

Did anyone who went this year (June 2011) encounter any problems at the airport when checking in such as happened last year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭TerrenceAnth

Yeah another question id have for anyone who went last year did you pack your mags in your gun case or gear bag??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,045 ✭✭✭OzCam

One-gun-per-case is an airline rule, not a global one. They can sometimes be persuaded to waive it if you ask nicely.

Mags should go in the gun case. It reassures security staff if batteries are removed from AEGs and packed in either your gear case or cabin baggage. US airlines want batteries in the cabin, not the hold. Don't try to fly with gas, it's not allowed at all. BBs go in the hold baggage, they won't be allowed in the cabin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭TerrenceAnth

So batterys can go in ether the hold or cabin. Im flying SAS so i think ill put it in the hold with the rest of the gear.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,045 ✭✭✭OzCam

The advantage of carrying batteries in your cabin baggage (weight permitting) is that you can easily show that "here they are in a plastic bag by themselves, with a bit of insulating tape over the connector, not connected to anything".

If you're putting batteries in the hold, pack them well away from everything else so that when the bag is x-rayed they don't look like they're connected to anything.

The whole idea is to make things as easy possible for the security screeners. The less friction there is, the faster you'll get through the airport.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

you could just imagine the fun and games of block lipos for example being xrayed, could be interesting :) going to show as chemical with wires ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭TerrenceAnth

On that not lipos are going in the hand luggage!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 960 ✭✭✭jayod30

I was just wondering did anyone who went out previous years bother to bring a back up AEG. I have my primary, gonna get some work done to it before I leave but still think I should bring a back up, carrying 2 cases though bit of an off putter. Would appreciate any advice, thanks
