Exercising through Leaving Cert study.

I was going to put this in the leaving Cert forum but thought it'd be more suitable here.

I've just started fifth year and it's already been two weeks without the gym as I honestly don't seem to have time for it, I'm out of the house from a 7:30am-5:15pm and by the time I finish with homework, small bit of revision and dinner it's already hitting the 10 o'clock and I'm dead and crawling to bed.

Does anybody have any advice on trying to find time to squeezing in a workout? How did you manage to fit in workouts while studying ? The only exercise I get in the week is a horse riding lesson on a Sunday followed by an hours sports class in school which is not enough.

For me it was 9-4 school
4-6 either gym or rugby training
    6-9 study/homework

If i was lucky i got an hour of TV to watch lost when i got home, Leaving cert sucks ass.

Couldn't agree more! I'm one of those people that have to spend ages in dead silence with no distractions for me to learn something short, I envy all those who manage to study while running on a treadmill .

Wait, you're not even in an exam year?

Cut down on the homework, problem solved! But if you really are doing that much study, you'll need a break, there are lots of good threads about home workouts with limited equipment on here.

Back when I was doing my LC, I used to skip triple religion class to go to the gym

You should definitely be able to fit the gym in somewhere during 5th year! Its all about finding a balance and its going to be more beneficial in the long run to try fit it in. It's only the start of 5th year for you so you shouldnt need to do so much revision at this stage. I tried to fit in the gym on a monday or tuesday, a dance class on a wednesday and then gym on friday when there's the weekend to get school work done.

Even in 6th year while it was difficult to keep that level of activity up I still tried my hardest to keep the hour and a half of dance up during the week until after Easter.

It's hard going but you'll do a lot more efficient studying if you take that time to exercise and relax!

I wouldn't suggest sacrificing your studies but as they say a healthy body is a healthy mind. If you exercise Sat + Sun and then find an hour 2 days mid week (e.g. Tue + Thurs) that'd be enough!

You can accomplish a lot through 30 minutes of exercising. No need to drag exercising out and have it eat into your studies. Working off the stress of studying will be good for your mind in the long run.
