Munster today named a 26 strong squad for the RaboDirect PRO12 Round Two game against Glasgow Warriors in Firhill next Friday.

It includes BJ Botha who resumed training this week having been forced out of the pre-season friendly game against London Wasps with a calf injury. Originally the timeframe for a return to action was a month and although he's ahead of that schedule management will monitor his progress this week before deciding if he'll be included in the trip to Glasgow.

Glasgow Warriors gave a better acccount of themselves in Ravenhill than perhaps the 28-14 final scoreline suggests with their coach Sean Lineen more than pleased with his young charge's performance.

"Not many gave us a chance (in Ravenhill). But deep down the boys had a lot of belief. The way we've played, the way we've trained, a lot of youngsters. But ultimately an area that's usually a strength, our lineout, didn't function. To lose siix was disappointing. The boys are better than that. So we didn't really have that platform."

"We went in 11-15 down at half-time. The boys working hard. Some of the defence was outstanding. In the second half we got to 15-14 and we were there."

"And then just, a lit bit of composure ? And their senior guys came to the fore. And they played in the right areas. Then we gave away another silly intercept. So just a few little mistakes but looking at the bigger picture there were some really good performances."

    Munster:
    J Murphy, D Howlett, D Hurley, S Zebo, T Gleeson, L Mafi, D Barnes,
    S Deasy, I Keatley,
    D Williams, P Stringer,

    D Varley, M Sherry, D Fogarty,
M Horan, W du Preez, S Archer, J Hayes, BJ Botha,
    D Foley, M O'Driscoll, B Holland,
    P O'Mahony, T O'Donnell, N Ronan, J Coughlan.

Not considered because of injury: Darragh Hurley (achillies), Troy Smith (knee), David Wallace (knee), Felix Jones (foot), Pete Borlase (hip), Ian Nagle (shoulder), T O'Leary (back)

    http://www.munsterrugby.ie/news/9358.php

    I'd like to see:
    du Preez, Sherry, Botha*, Holland, MOD, O'Mahony (c), O'Donnell, Coughlan;
Stringer, Keatley, Hurley, Mafi, Barnes, Howlett, Murphy

Bench: Varley, Horan, Hayes, Foley, Ronan, Williams, Deasy, Zebo

    *If fit, otherwise Archer.

Would have Archer on the bench but Hayes will be there for gametime (Kidney's orders). Archer had a good game last week but Botha needs gametime too.

Hurley had a good game last week on the wing and it would be unfair to drop him. I'd like to see Zebo come on for Hurley/Howlett at 55/60 minutes. Same for Foley and Williams.

This fixture last year wasn't televised either but a 10 minute highlights video was posted on youtube. Hopefully the same will happen this season.

A cracking game there last year , Glasgow are tough enough at home. Not sure if Munster have the tools to open Glasgow up enough at the moment. Still hard to bet against Munster, if they win this they set a new Celtic League records for wins in a row.
    Draw.

  • wtf, why not televised?

BBC Alba not even going to cover it? Great shame that Italian home games and now some Scots aren't going to have live coverage.

Hard ask to set that record, Munster always seems to find Glasgow to be a difficut team to beat.

Alba only show one home game each week-end and it looks like that's going to be Edinburgh. You'd wonder how the fixtures were agreed with kind of television policy.

Last year a radio commentary was provided so may be available again this year, also, I think there will be a highlights program available on one of the BBC Scottish channels so keep an eye out.

It's a real shame. It's not like our domestic league doesn't need all the coverage it can get. And staunch supporters like us are left with highlights... at best.

I would have thought that the Pro12 would be a good opportunity to generate revenue by streaming all matches live over the web. I'd happily pay a (reasonable) annual subscription for such a service.

Actually, I've just seen that Edinburgh are away to Ospreys so BBC Alba aren't broadcasting a game from Scotland at all the week-end

First Munster player to get a yellow card should be substituted. Subsequent yellows cardee's should be flogged.

I think we can win this one. Glasgow are more effected then us by the WC.

WTF? I thought this wasn't going to happen when the game went FTA. At least with Setanta they showed pretty much every game. Last weekend was a bit **** as well with the only TG4 showing a single live Irish province game.

This is a joke. Pro12 rugby should demand that all games have to be shown live or at least have cameras at the bloody game! It sends out a very bad signal when we can't see games.

RTE are very poor too. They're doing sweat f-all to promote the league and only want a few glamour games to show. The Welsh have by far the best coverage of the league and even a highlights show.

It all depends, remember last week when Mafi got carded it was really nothing much on his behalf just a build up of penalties. If the team is under pressure for a while sometimes giving away 3 points and a yellow card might be the better option.
Early doors yet, I wouldn't be too bothered.

Don't forget that BBC2 NI showed Ulster live. As regards BBC Alba AFAIK they are cash strapped and so didn't even show Edinburgh vs Cardiff last weekend but instead took BBCNI's coverage of Ulster vs Glasgow.
If anything of 4 home nations rugby viewers in Scotland get the worst deal of all. Only upside is a regular Celtic League highlights programme every Sunday night on STV but viewers in Border region can't get this programme except they have satellite as it's not brodcast by Border TV! When Setanta had the previous contract after the UK business collapsed viewers in Scotland couldn't even see matches like Glasgow vs Munster for Setanta was no longer available outside Ireland!

STV are showing highlights of the game on Sunday night at 22:45.

Of the 3 yellows we got only O'Mahony's was in a dangerous position. I'm not overly concerned as its the first month but in reality its a continuation of last season's poor discipline. Not having a proper captain for a long time doesn't help matters.

I recognise only 5/6 names in that 23. We'll surely take them?

I didn't see the game against Ulster last week but 22 of the 23 man squad for the Munster featured against Ulster (11 of the starting 15 start again this week) so I wouldnt be too sure but then again I'd like to think that Munster have a stronger team.

Ulster destroyed them in the line out and they didnt seem up to much but that could be just rustyness. Ulster ran at them alot but they have a very decent out half with a big boot so unfortunately discipline will need to be good. :o

    Thanks,

Unfortunately for me I opted to watch Opsreys V Leinster and hadn't learnt my lesson by halftime and continued watching the 2nd half for more punishment, maybe I should have switched over to the Ulster game. Easy be wise in hindsight.

He did and he was God awful. Think of a really dumb version of Graeme Morrison with even worse handling.

He has 13 Scotland caps and was in the 2007 RWC squad. If he's as bad as you say, it tells you something about Scotland back then doesn't it?

He's big, strong, fast and in 2007 was in the 'promising' category. Never built on the so called promise. These days he does his best work without the ball and when he can run in a straight lines forward to tackle. Mafi and Barnes could side step him to insanity on Friday.

    Munster:
    J Murphy; D Howlett, D Barnes, L Mafi, S Zebo; I Keatley, P Stringer; W du Preez, D Varley, J Hayes; B Holland, M O'Driscoll; P O'Mahony capt, N Ronan, J Coughlan.

    Replacements: D Fogarty, M Horan, S Archer, D Foley, T O'Donnell, D Williams, S Deasy, T Gleeson.

Sherry and Denis Hurley miss out due to injury. I hope O'Donnell gets some gametime this weekend.

Unsure about T14 but only around 3 matches of Aviva Premiership are shown live each week. AFAIK 2 are covered by ESPN and 1 by Sky. There is an highlights programme however on ITV which shows coverage of every game. The only highlights programme for the Celtic League that shows coverage of every game is 'STV Rugby' on a Sunday evening.
