Thought this mught be a useful thread to start, for those of us who have weekends away planned over the next 6 weeks to places that aren't the most rugby-mad.

Myself, I'll be in Barcelona on Quarterfinal weekend, and I'd appreciate any ideas on places to hit for the 7:30am /10am kickoffs.

A spot in Seville for the Australia match?

PS NEVER leave the organisation of a holiday to your other half

    www.soccerbars.com is the answer.

It mostly lists english and Irish pubs all over the world but they have sky sports and aren't going to turn away a large portion of their regulars and newcomers because they won't show the rugby. In general they do anyway.

I've worked all over the world and well quite simply the one place you always end up getting the footie (or the rugby in season) is the theme pub

Plenty of places in Barcelona that will have it however where the best atmostphere is I don't know

I'll be on isla mujeres in mexico for the USA game on the off chance anyone knows, and new york for the Oz game if anyone knows of anywhere good to watch rugby there.

i.e. I'm going to have limited internet access over the next while so if anyone has any queries please ask one of the other mods as they may get back to you quicker

Alas I managed to genuinely do something similar not so long ago. For it to happen again would mean the only way I would get to watch the game would be if they had it on in the intensive care ward. :o

Irish bar called Lansdowne Road in NY. They're big sports bar and with the name and all I imagine it's a pretty solid bet they'll be showing it.

Depending on your accomodation but aren't ITV showing all the games and that should be easy enough to pick up in hotels in either city.

Mind you it'll be pretty early in the morning there but I guess bars are open the night through in 'The Big Apple.'

Few of the bars in Toulouse are recording them and showing them later on the afternoon/ evening so people can watch them with a pint or two. Needless to say I will be avoiding here until the day after the games!:)

Mind you, I'll avoid the result all day until some eejit in the pub sees my jersey and says something like "terrible disappointing result" or "And people doubted Kidney! The man's pure genius".

There's an Irish bar right in the centre of Seville. Can't remember the name but I'll try and find it. I watched the Ireland vs. Wales match there last year, was great craic.

Edit: Flaherty's, I think it is.

Anyone know of anywhere in Praia da Luz in Portugal? I'm gonna be there for the US match. Or, alternatively, are there any channels that are showing all of the matches aside from subscription channels? I think there's Sky in one of the apartments...

Rather than looking for venues, I'm wondering is there an alternative to myp2p.eu for match streams? Disastrous timing that those guys ran into trouble before the WC...

That is a nice idea. Reminds me a bit of St Patrick's Day 2007. I was in Vancouver. The Frog and something and english style theme pub was kind enough to record the irish game which was on at silly o'clock and decided to show it to start the day at a more reasonable 11am. Fry up and a few pints while watching the rugby seemed like a great idea to start of the day being both a sacred day for any irishman, a Saturday and also a pretty big festival day in Vancouver.

Of course on arrival at the pub nobody ever once mentioned the score or the result of the Ireland-Italy game. However France had to play after Ireland or in our case had already played after Ireland and the score was going round the pub. That meant that everybody there knew that Ireland had to beat Italy by twenty-seven or so points. That was of course in the Pub. On the pitch however the boys were trying to set France a high and difficult points target.

Anyway we all know what happened next. Instead of kicking the ball into touch to win the Six Nations the ball was given away and Italy got a try reducing the French target to a managable twenty three points. A disappointing way to lose a tournament maybe but doubly so when you know it is actually lost.

The moral is get yourselves up early in the morning and watch it all live. Don't run the risk of being disappointed later in the day.

    :)

They'll be streaming games on RTÉ player if you can get a friend at home with a decent internet connection to set up a proxy for you.

Or www.myp2p.eu which lists all sports and you can generally find a decent quality version of rugby games

I missed what Monty Burnz said there and just went to check and apparently the site is offline. Anybody know what happened? I have a local irish pub at the moment that shows everything but if I go somewhere else who knows what I'll find

    I just found www.lshunter.tv

Due to a complaint under the US digital millenium copyright act it has been removed from Google. I found it anyway :)

I don't know how good the links are though we'll have to wait and see

I use a new site, not sure of the exact name (will check at home and post it later) but it's something like norwaysport.com. I got linked to it from kiwiisport.com which is now called the above.

I'm going to be in Italy - near Viterbo (Orvieto) - for the Australia match. I've done a little research and I found two Irish pubs in Viterbo, Andrew's Pub Birreria and Green Land Irish Pub. I'm not sure if there is any live TV coverage of the Ireland matches in Italy but I'm guessing that those pubs are the best place to start. I'm happy tpo call them but if anyone is familiar with the area or has any suggestions I'd be delighted to hear from them.

For those of you travelling to NYC - McCormack's on third avenue (26th St I think) is great for the Irish rugby games. You wont be dissapointed.

I use lshunter all the time and the quality of the links for the the 3N's /S15/Currie Cup were excellent. Watched some northern hemisphere stuff on it of late and the quality wasn't as good but still decent. As always decent broadband make streaming so much easier.

The people who develop all this sort of stuff are lazy bastards looking for a big pay off for very little work.

Therefore use Linux; it is used by less than one percent of pc users. So the lazy bastards have less motivation to go producing a spyware programme for so little payback. There is still a risk but if your anitvirus is upto date before using a site you are't sure of you shouldn't have a problem

I'll throw in two requests - In Madrid some time later this month for a week, and in vietnam in October for the Quarters, Semi's and Finals (Working the way down from Hanoi to HCM City, so I can adjust my location a bit, if the other half will let me!)

You'll have no problem finding a place in HCM City, there are plenty of bars around the backpacker district aimed at Aussies and Europeans including sports bars. They're far more expensive though. The Hilton in Hanoi should have the matches on. There aren't many bars in the city really I found and it's nowhere near as westernised as the south so you will struggle to find any regular bars showing sports.

In terms of the rest of the country, the further south you venture, the more likely you are to find somewhere. Hoi An, Nha Trang etc. shouldn't be too hard as they've a bars/restaurants dotted around that show sports.

In Chamonix go to Cham Sud, to the Munster Bar. I'm not sure if they are open in september though, even more unlikely in October. That may have changed since I was there a few years ago. Otherwise there is a place on the main street that you will find fairly easily, an English Theme pub. Plus any French bar will be showing most matches as well. Savoie is a bastion of French rugby, about the only place it is played outside of the South West.

    RE: London

Best bet for a bit of atmos is probably Walkabout (not a sentence I thought I'd ever write) either Shep Bush or Temple. As its on ITV that'll keep most people safely on their own couches sadly.
Other than that, any Irish pub (Porterhouse in covent garden, Alex in Clapham, many many others) will probably have breakfast n beer on for early risers.

    re Hanoi

Years since we were there but there was a travel/cafe/backpackers bolt hole called Kangaroo Cafe who were very knowledgeable when we wanted to watch rugby/ football. No idea of names of places we were sent, (I have to admit I was very, very drunk) but they all had english Sky for matches etc. so it's there to be found, but would second GerM that Hoi an, Nah Trang etc. much easier to find places to watch.

Between a lack of video drivers, flash support being crap and some p2p applications simply not having a Linux version, p2p streaming of live sports is one thing I would definitely not recommend Linux for.

Neither will be a problem. Singapore is very much a former English colony with plenty of sports bars. Bungy Bar should have all the matches and shows most rugby and cricket matches: http://www.bungybar.com/

Can't recall the names of anywhere in Cairns but it won't be a problem. There are a few places down on the esplanade that have big screens where I watched The Ashes and European football.

    Cairns = The Woolshed

PS you will probably have a wet tshirt competition on aswell the same day and a Ms Backpacker competition. There are plenty of pubs and rugby wont be a problem.

PPS You lucky Baxtard. Unreal town :D

I was in Madrid in late February and an Irish Pub by the name of La Fontana de Oro was showing 6 Nations games. Dunno if they'll have RWC games, but it's worth a shot.

I'm looking for a Boston location too...if we make the first quarter final I'll be there. Unlike many other cities, the Irish pubs don't seem to mention it on their websites. Have emailed a couple but no reply yet.

Manus from Emerald Rugby suggested the Irish Wolfhounds Rugby Club at the Irish Cultural Centre in Boston but I can't find much information as to whether it's open to the public.

The Jekyll in Cham Sud will almost certainly be showing games too. Great food usually, and I reckon they'd throw on a slap up breakfast.

Anyone with any recommendations for Irl/Aus game from Sharm el Sheikh?

Can anyone recommend a good Irish proxy server that I can pay for for one month and then cancel? I reckon it's easiest to just know that I can stream the match from RTE rather than be in a panic at 7am here trying to find a working stream.
