Even in the smallest most trivial of posts, they write their username or some other nickname that has nothing to do with their username.

    WHY?

Perhaps they have it set to be their standard signature? You should have a look around the User CP

It's entirely up to the user to decide if they want to sign off on their posts.

It's annoying. I don't care what you're username is and I'm fairly sure nearly everyone else doesn't either.

User recognition I suppose. Many users are indistinguishable from one another, and this adds a defining characteristic that makes these users instantly recognizable.

No it's nothing to do with the user CP, this shyte is manually typed by the user at the end of every one of their posts.

Only sometimes. If I turned around and closed my eyes, from the top of my head I could name 15-20 users from boards, tops.

Included in that would be the users who sign off or who write in an otherwise characteristic style.

Most people's usernames I just forget, I'm sure it's the same for everyone. I just counted 4 users in this thread whose posts I can remember reading before.

She most certainly did not, and the beautiful Vanessa is just about to begin a US tour and hopefully a couple of UK gigs later in the year.

i dont know, but i kinda like it. you could ne scrolling through the thread, reading the posts, and not taking any notice of the user-names at all, it just adds an air of,, i dont know, something.

i think it comes from the early internet days, where anyone could post on a board without being registered, and to be recognised you had to stick a name at the end of your post
