What's everyone planning to bring with them? I mean i'm not exactly close to home so I was kinda planning to just clear my room and bring nearly everything, but i don't want to look like a total retard if everyone else is just bringing bed sheets and clothes =/

I live pretty close so I won't be bringing that much for the first day. Just some clothes, duvet (I need my own), bedclothes, toiletries, towel, food and whatever else I can think of :)

What time of day are people coming down on Friday? I don't want to be there really early if most people aren't arriving til the evening :P

    You will need:

Bed sheets, clothes, cups, plates, knives, spoons, forks, tea bags/coffee, pizza cutter would be handy, sponge, shampoo (stuff like that you can buy on site but it's handier just to bring them with you.. saves money) toothpaste, toothbrush, pots and pans or whatever to cook with, toilet paper.

That's really all that's kind of essential, food you can get on site, like noodles, pizza, cereal, milk, chocolate, and all that. Although on the day everyone moves in those things will probably disappear.

For buying real food go to Tesco's or Dunnes. The on site shop doesn't have any fruit or vegetables.

You'll be told what time you have to be there at. People will be arriving early in the morning until mid afternoon. It'll depend on the house you're living in.

pots and pans or whatever to cook with

Oh do they not supply pots and pans? That's a bit awkward..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 169 ✭✭Phareon

I've got obvious stuff like all my clothes, shoes, hats, bedclothes, pillows, towels, bathroom stuff, plates, bowls, cups, cutlery, iPod, phone/iPod chargers, laptop, basically all the necessary stuff!

Then I've got personal stuff, ornaments, books, DVDs, CDs, nintendos, games, board games, pens, pencils, stationery, blu tack, photos, posters, clocks, lamps, schoolbag.

And then obviously I'm going to buy college food like beans, noodles, tuna, milk, bread, porridge, normal stuff :D

Nope.. The only things they supply are a kettle, toaster, microwave and an oven/cooker. And then there's a lamp in your bedroom. :)

Also, just to point out, there isn't actually a TV in your apartment either..

What about a bed? Or cupboards? Or a bath/shower? Or doors? O.o
Or are they implied in your post? :P

Blue tack! I'll add that to my list....so yeah I think i'm gonna need a moving lorry, i'm not very good at concise packing :o

My desktop (I'm a graphics whore), laptop, a box of old parts and clothes. Still trying to work out the logistics.

    Anyone else bringing a desktop?

You have to bring a shower. Make sure you know how to connect everything to the sewage system and that you're able to do the electrical wiring. :p

Jam. The last thing you want is to walk out without the jam.

I'm still undecided. I thought of leaving my desktop at home because my laptop has reasonable graphics (Geforce GT 555M), but then the graphics in my desktop (Radeon HD 5870) is like still 3 times faster even though its nearly 2 years older! lol.

I also thought of bringing my TV and speakers and amp, but I thought my room would be cramped then. I have some compromises to take by just taking my laptop, especially audio wise. My thought on not bringing the stuff there was that I thought I'll probably come home nearly every weekend, but now I'm thinking of just coming home every month!

I need advice. What would yous do? Take all the stuff with me and have a cramped room or leave the stuff at home and have a nice and tidy room?

I was gonna say going home every weekend will be pretty tiresome if you're going all the way to Donegal, if you're going home every month you could try not bringing your desktop and if you miss it that much you can go home and get it? I'm also a really tidy person so just the idea of a messy cramped room makes me want to kill myself =/

Thanks Siobhan6. I just had an idea what I could do. Could I not take my laptop and my headphones into my own wee room, and leave the TV and speakers and amp in the wee living room area so that the people in my apartment and I could watch TV? The desktop could be attached to the TV so that we could play games and watch DVDs/Blu-rays in the living room. I don't know if this is a good idea because what do I do if I fall out with the people in my apartment? Then the situation would be really awkward.

Pretty sure you can't get TV channels in your own room anyway.

We could still watch movies though and play video games.

5870! Best value for money GPU IMO *high fives*. What's it's full specs? In my case I've gotten so used to crysis-like graphics with smooth frame rates that I can't ever go back + I'm not planning on travelling home every weekend so bringing the desktop seems like a logical decision. As for the TV you may need to pay a license for that so I'd probably leave that out (Although I wonder if you could get around that by claiming it's a second monitor assuming it has a VGA or DVI socket). Sure bring the speakers and amp they're only going to gather dust at home and if anyone complains about a clutterly mess just tell them you're obeying the second law of thermodynamics.

If you're bringing an amp make sure you max out the gain and the bass so the sound resonates through the whole building.

I guess I'll take the Desktop then. But I'm still kind of worried that someone complains if I set it up in the living room. But I mean the other roommates could watch Movies and play games on it too! I thought it would be great if we could watch movies together.:)

What do you mean? Do I have to pay if I bring the TV with me even though I won't connect it to sky or the standard Irish channels?

I thought the speakers might be great for a party, seen as they have a tweeter horn which are usually used at clubs too. I don't know much about them, they're from Klipsch and the amps from Onkyo, any Audio enthusiasts around here?

By the way, what do you mean with the second law of thermodynamics?

I'm not 100% what category it would fall into then

Total entropy always increases so it's pointless trying to impose order on your room as it will always revert back to disorder given time as it's not an isolated system. It's just a nerdy way of saying it will get cluttered and messy again so why bother tidying it up.:D

You know a game has good graphics when you load the game and the first thing you're told is that it has been "achieved with Cry-Engine 3." Achieved.

Less. I've made it there leaving at 5 to ten!

And the tv licence depends, They usually tell you when you're there. Last two years we haven't had to pay it, but that *may* change (not liekly)

And the lawas for a TV licence are if you have receiving equipment, not if you're watching tv. So if you have a PS3 conected to a MOnitor, it's all good, if you have a TV sitting in your wardrobe you're liable

lol, in my opinion Crysis 2 hasn't a chance against Crysis 1 graphics wise, even with the DX11 patch.

I would have the TV connected to my desktop. But I have the TV now since 2 years and haven't paid a licence because I never used it to watch TV. Did I do something illegal?
