Yeah he wasn't happy. Interesting that his objection made the photo, well I think it did anyway.

    that can happen....

get your self a camera with a flip out screen. makes it easier to look like you were doing somthing else.
Also another handy tip if some one demands you delete a pic do it in front of them just to save the hassell. Then when you get home use data recovery software to retrive the deleted image..
Zoom lense is my best friend on the street. Still its somthing I dont do enough.

@humberklog- I can understand why she didnt' want you to take her photo. I think she's 'begging' and breast feeding. (Good photo though).

I asked two women outside a refugee hotel in Galway could I take a photo but they said no. Often I guess you have to decide take the shot and maybe be rude or ask but could get turned down...

thought it looked strange with the boards and lines of people in the background, there's a wee spot not unlike it close to galway actually

this was my first time asking someone if i could take their photo, i was in a rush but if id have concentrated more i think i wouldve asked to take a few closeups of his bike and badges on his jacket, he was very happy to pose, but i do prefer the candid style of street photography. made my day though being brave enough to ask.

also, seen this online and thought it was a good idea....

Gotta love a short focal length and get up close and personal. No cropping, no zooming, just get in there. Three from the Sunday of Peoples Photography.

that's something i couldn't do - take a candid photo of a stranger from what looks like close up with a flash.
candid street photography seems to succeed when it's subtle, which has the benefit of not alerting the subject too. using a flash like that is anything but subtle and could conceivably come across as aggressive.

Slight blur, shutter speed was was too slow. Pity as she's a character in Galway. She 'chased/walked' after me giving out...

I go through phases of asking. I got some results I liked with a Polaroid.

Then I got more into just shooting stuff without any direct contact, usually with rangefinders.

I had an interesting experience a while ago walking through Sandyford. A woman walking along with her mobile in front of her looked like she was filming as she walked, then as I was walking by she turned and took a photo of me. From around 4ft away, then kept walking. It made me feel pretty uncomfortable, as it did everyone else she did it to. People were just stopping and looking at each other wondering what she was doing.

Apart from that she was dressed a bit strange... a hat with corks hanging from it and wheeling a small suitcase behind her which had a shovel sticking out of it.
