August is the first month of Autumn. You're a tad late to be mentioning the end of summer! :D

Did we actually have a summer? Come to think of it, have we had one in the last four years?

I have to say it's actually been one of my better ones.

End of May/early June I spent in Cuba with a mate of mine and without doubt it blew away every other holiday we've been on. The day after returning I had a 3 night stag in Dingle on the June bank hol weekend and it was the best weekend of the summer without doubt (weather wise too). That wedding was on 6 weeks later and turned out to be the 2nd best weekend of weather! The weekend after that was another mates stag in Liverpool. Had something on every other weekend in June/July as well.

The one downside was that this incredible French Canadian girl I met in Cuba was trying to come over at the end of July to visit, but couldn't for several reasons. However, the good times hopefully aren't over yet as I'm very close to booking flights to Montreal to go there for the second half of September. :D

I love the miserable dark cold days and nights of winter being warmed up by hours of Soccer Saturday, The Premiership, Magners league ( or modern day equivalent) & the Heineken Cup.
Its also a time where we welcome back the Late Late Show and its second rated cousin on Saturday night, which I rearly bother watching because of my aforementioned sporting commitments. Also those pesky kids are all locked up in their rooms doing their homework giving the neighbourhood a beautiful silence instead of the racket of joyous play.

    I thought the seasons were....

    Dec, Jan,Feb = Winter
    Mar, Apr, May = Spring
    Jun, Jul, Aug = Summer
    Sep, Oct, Nov = Autumn

    Is this wrong?:confused::confused:

the headline from this scottish newspaper pretty much sums up summer  2011 http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/news/editor-s-picks/wet-cold-and-gloomy-that-was-summer-2011-1.1120882

Met Eireann says summer is June-August. Ask anywhere other than Ireland in the temperate northern hemisphere when summer is and they'll tell you that.

    Spring - February, March, April.
    Summer - May, June, July.
    Autumn - August, September, October.
    Winter - November, December, January.

This is the only country that widely thinks Spring starts on Feb 1st so its hardly a surprise people think Autumn starts in August.

Anyway Met Error declared this coolest August in 25 years earlier today and I imagine the whole summer is likely to be close to the misery of 1985.

Oh I forgot the OP. This summer has been an average Irish summer. Not as bad as many other ones.

Depends on who you ask, Met Éireann thinks it starts in September but they are seldom right anyway :D

Eventually we can get rid of this sh1te we call a summer and we can look forward to some decent heavy snowfalls and proper cold weather. I reckon we hardly got 10-12 true cloudless warm dry days this summer, this gray overcast sh1te we always get is hardly a summer is it.

I hate the routine and structure that is the school year.
But this year I can't wait for it to begin.
Cooped up inside with the kids most of the summer is not fun.
Weather too bad most of the time.
Got sick so couldn't even go on my honeymoon :(

I just hope we don't get a wet winter now, you know the kinda of one where the only distinguishable feature from summer is the shorter days.

I don't call it anything, they're the mean temperatures for Ireland that I copied and pasted, it's not my opinion on the weather.
