One of the best in the business.

Very clear authoritative voice, never stumbles her words, doesn't try to make the news for extra-curricular activities.

She always looked well turned out to me. The News is not the place for daring outfits and mode breaking style.

It'll be a shame if she does go.

Great - I'll be able to watch the news again when she leaves. OK she wasn't blessed with the best looks but she could have made an effort. The pancake makeup, jangly cheap jewellery and ill fitting jackets made me cringe. She represented all that is worst about Irish "style". And don't get me started on her ego tripping interview style.

Who gives a damn what she looks like. Watch that Exposé bollocks if that's all you look for in a broadcast.

Anne Doyle is a great newsreader.

    An exceptionally offensive post

A news reader should be bland. The news is the news regardless of how hot/ugly/unstylish/trendy the news broadcaster is.

As above if you want to see 'style' watch Expose as they waddle around getting makeovers and repeating what the guest/interviewees say about moisturisers......

    She was a ledge..................

Looks as if this thread backfired on the OP.

    Shallow much??

An excellent journalist and broadcaster. Delivers the news in an unfussy, professional way with good diction and she has a nice timbre in her voice that doesn't grate. She will be a loss. It will leave Michael Murphy as the best newsreader on RTE.

This mornings news - she has enquired if she is able to take early retirement but hasn't actually decided to go

Whats the OP want? Fox News style airhead dollybirds presenting the news?

Anne Doyle has an old-school authoritive, distinctive voice that is what news reading should be all about.

Good luck for the future Anne.

Always had time for Anne in fairness...
She was easy to listen to and held your attention..

Can't believe you are taking issue with her looks.. For a woman in her late fifties I think she looks really well...

Would take her anyday ahead of the Xpose mindnumbing muck./

OK she wasn't blessed with the best looks

    Pics or stfu

IMHO she did her job very well, what more does anyone want.
And as for the "looks" comments, they are both unfair and untrue.

Anne & Micheàl Murphy top notch.
Dobbo reminds me of that Jeremy douche from sky.

Hopefully Una O'Hagan will get her perm 9pm slot

Anne will be badly missed when she does go. A great news reader unlike the younger generation.

Anne Doyle is a fine woman, you'd be picking the sheets out of your arse for a week after an evening with her i reckon.

    A lady.

Folks I am concerned that Anne has left. She has not been on the week before last or this week when she was due on (rotating every second week with Dunne). Dammit. It could all be over.

She's finishing up in early 2012..

EDIT: Actually... it does say "New Year at the very latest".

yes she was good but you don't need to pay someone anywhere near 100k+ to read the news.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 159 ✭✭yenoah

Yes I'd miss her. She delivers the news just right. Very in control. Compare her to that Sharon Ni whatzername.....If the cue cards go out of sync or a live link does something unexpected, watch her stumble. Bit of a bit too by all accounts at this years Ploughing Championship.

My problem with Anne was she always seemed emotionally detached and cold.

Dobson can give a sense of occasion without making it gushing tabloid news,he appears to have a sense of history in the making above a silly story.

Anne never mastered that art IMO.

It is a difficult job to get the balance right as a newsreader and even though we like the facts from an anchor,i think we also like a small bit of drama to be reflected by the readers demeanour,Anne made everything sound boring.

Her standards are beyond reproach but........... i will be glad to see her go.

Not according to the everything you said before that

OP should be ashamed at being so shallow

Anne is a fantastic journalist and news reader and will be missed on our screens

No her standards of journalism were beyond reproach.
Her style of presentation was not to my taste but obviously she is without doubt much loved by many.
