I have Windows XP running service pack two. Its 64 bit windows. It seems service pack 3 is only available for 32 bit windows. Is there any alternative for updating windows 64 bit XP or is its day just over in terms of updates?

XP 64-bit is based on the same core as Windows Server 2003, which has since been replaced by Windows Server 2008 and then Windows Server 2008 R2. There's no definitive statement from Microsoft about when extended support will end for it, but I would assume its days are numbered.

    Thank you both!
It's a pity,it's hard to find a virus scanner that will install for xp sp2 now and if they aren't kicking p about that they don't like 64bt!
Oh well. It's served me well so far.:o

Have a look at this Microsoft Answers thread, there are a couple of recommendations there which might be of use to you.

(I've used F-Secure and Sophos for 64-bit XP machines at work before, but both were server editions made available to us as part of our campus licence agreement, so they may not suit your requirements or budget...)
