Reading Module in third year History

Can anyone enlighten me as to what the reading modules were for third year history? I want to have an idea of what they are like before I choose them

Basically, you will be given a list of books, perhaps five, and from that list you must pick one. You then complete a 2,500 word essay on that book based on a number of set questions; you pick one question.

It could be phrased like: "Assess the merits/shortcomings of the central argument in the book you have chosen?"

There are no lectures/tutorials. It is completely independent work, but you can contact the lecturer in charge of the module to go over any questions or issues you might have.

Generally, the books on the list are titles familiar with your previous year in history. So, you might have books on Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England in the 16th-18th centuries (Prof. Hill's course). Or the book list could contain books on the HY210 module (Dr. Lederer's course). Either way, the list of books should be available within the first month of term beginning.

Nice one, thanks for the information. I loved Professor Hills lectures so hopefully can choose a book from that era
