It's being previewed at the PAX gaming convention for the weekend. Based on the feedback they get, they'll prepare for a full release. Frankly I hope we get it on Monday, but it wouldn't surprise me if we ended up waiting an entire week. I would be happy with just the new map generation features. Ravines, rivers? **** yes!

Good video that shows off the new features a bit better.

Also, at the end of the video Notch says that it'll be split into two updates because it's so large, with 1.8 coming out very soon and then the rest of the stuff packed into 1.9.

yeah i hear that it'll be staggered for example npc villages will come first and then their inhabitants will come after.

Current guesstimate by jeb (The new lead dev of Minecraft, since Notch is off to do... something) for 1.8 is September the 8th. Two days late to post it here but I'm sure most people cant be arsed looking for this info themselves :P.

Kind of sick of waiting for this update tbh.

I have a bad feeling that its going to be a disappointment given the lenght of time its takine and all the hype thats built up for it.

Passives now run in fear when you attack them, exemplified by a sheep running the hell away from a wolf. Apparently more in store. Here's hoping creepers blow themselves up against things other than us.
