Being honest, Im glad to be out of it (was there last year). That said its deadly craic. Full of first years, the accomadation people usually bunch them together. You get upc in there which is class (sky sports and all). The place is really old so alot of the stuff is broken (if your in 22 nearly everything is broken) make sure to try get that stuff fixed early on. youll want a big duvet as its F**KING freezing during winter. get a key for the snooker hall in the basement for some entertainment (never did find out how to get in there usually just slipped in after someone).
One last thing, the matreses have these brown stains on them that look like s**t, its actually just rust from whatever they were stored on.

I was in Rye Hall last year... what a dump.

    1. Tv didn't work.
    2. Oven didn't work.
    3. Shower leaked causing a flood.
    4. As Jimbob stated, it's freezing during winter.
    5. Microwave was destroyed in fire related incident caused by a Louth fella
    6. You can actually punch a hole in some of the walls.
    7. Fire alarm went off at random for a few nights last year.
    8. The fire extinguisher in one apartment doesnt work anymore (see no. 5)

If you do have any problems, get em sorted out nice and early.

Rye hall is bad if i were you I'd try to get a transfer!

tv didnt work for the first month
    the shower didnt work
    big hole in the wall
    mushrooms growing in the bathroom
leak from upstairs came into our apartment
    our oven door fell off
fire alarm went off in the middle of the night!
freezing during the winter especially this winter with the mad snow!
and i was living with idiots!!

on the upside it is great craic and your so close to everyting!
and the rooms are nice like it is livable! just annoying sometimes!!

I think we've found the culprit, chief.

Bit of a disgrace if everything is broken when you move in. Does our SU President have an opinion on this? ;)

I spent half of first year in 22 (late 2009/early 2010), I'm surprised it still exists now! (as you can tell I didn't survive there very long!) :pac:

The only good things about Rye Hall are the room sizes, radiators and its closeness to JH. My experience of the 7 bed ones is that there's too much of a risk of being put with...unfriendly...people :(

Ryehall for me. River was just a little too rich for my tastes >___>

Anyone else here in Apartment 10? Is it 3, 5 or 7 room?

    Rye Hall is in 4 Blocks (A - D)

A is 5 people to an apartment,
B is 3 people to an apartment,
C is 4 people to an apartment
and D is 7 people to an apartment.

In my personal opinion Block D (Apartments 21, 22, 23, 24) isn't great for a number of reasons. its mostly the number of rooms in the apartment coupled with the number of first years, always leads to trouble.

Also in response to the comment about punching holes in walls, that's almost always the case in a house with plastered stud partition walls
(I'm not sure about the corrugated iron shack you might live in)

As long as you don't go causing mayhem or you don't live with people who enjoy causing mayhem, you should be fine.

Cheers for the info. According to my booking, Apt. 10 is in Block C. :D

    There might be a miss-print,
    there's 8 Apartments each in Block A and B and 4 each in C and D

I do think I might have gotten B's number of rooms wrong, on one side of the corridor the apartments have 3 rooms the other side has 4 rooms.

Rye and River are generally mixed sex, sometimes single sex apartments happen, ether by design or by accident.

Village tends to have more single sex apartments due to their ownership (SPCM) and its own rules on such matters

Your actually staying in the same room as i was in last year, Its a 4bed apartment, with 2bathrooms & the kitchen area! One of the best blocks to live in Rye! The shower from upstairs started leaking into ours last year, so if it starts to do that get it looked at! Also the oven door is kinda wrecked! Might wanna get that looked at to! Apart from that great apartment & you'll have great craic der :)
