Two quick questions about calorie counting

I'm currently trying to lose a bit of weight by improving my diet and keeping an eye on my calorie intake (I'm sticking to 1,800 calories each day, and avoiding processed foods.)

I still have the odd treat, for example I might have a bottle of wine at the weekend. The way I account for it is as follows: If I buy and open a bottle of wine on a Thursday and have a glass or two per night over three nights, I simply include the full amount of calories of the bottle on Thursday (and therefore eat less that day), and then on the Friday and Saturday I eat my full 1,800 calories and still have a glass or two of wine in the evening. I would do the same with the odd bar of chocolate etc if I'm having it over a few days. Just wondering if there's anything wrong with counting the calories in this way?

My second question (a bit random!), is about tinned fruit! The nutritional info is given per 100g. Say if I have a tin of fruit in juice, and according to the tin, the weight of it is 450g net and 230g drained. To work out the calories for the whole tin, should I go by the 450g or 230g? I'm assuming 230g, but just wanted to check.

    Thanks!

  • Yup, overall calorie intake is important, it's simply easier to keep to a daily count. no problem counting them as you have been doing though. It's simply conventional to have a daily calorie count, but a weekly calorie count should be the same tbh.

    230g is the one alright!
