(Mods: I created a new thread because of the madness on the other one and several people have asked about accessories).

Elara have reduced the prices of accessories for the touchpad - the have cases (€26.62 - 34 in stock as I type) and touchstone docks (€41.14 - 85 in stock as I type)

    Cases: Sold Out Was: http://www.elara.ie/productdetail.aspx?productcode=WCEFB343AAAC3
Touchstone: Sold Out Was: http://www.elara.ie/productdetail.aspx?productcode=WCEFB340AAABB (updated I had copied the case link in twice by accident)

Argos also have the cases reduced - but with no reservations and the suggestion that they might also have some tablets, probably best avoid them for the moment.

    Paddy

PS The cases at least can be ordered - I ordered one just before posting here...

€8 shipping is a bit steep

I work in Park West, so can collect - but you're right €8 is a bit steep.

I suppose it is still cheaper than argos for the touchstone (€55 there even though it is £35 in the UK)

I agree with separating the threads within reason. The other thread is a joke. My thread for those waiting on orders was shut down, but I wish they would reconsider as PMs make more sense at this stage.

    Do I need a touchstone?

I'm sorely tempted but it seems a lot for what essentially is an overpriced stand.

It doesn't charge the touchpad any quicker than the AC charger, right?

    Or what am I missing?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 614 ✭✭✭blankblank

wat is the official case like? Is it worth buying it or better to get a third party case?

think its just the convenience of it really, got one earlier and must say its much easier to be able to just place it on the stand and it starts charging instantly! If you plan on using it at a desk regularly I think its a good buy as you can work away on it while it charges!

Anywhere else selling the official cases for around €25?

Amazon have it as £32, Play.com €49. I know Argos have it listed for €25 but no stock and would prefer online offer if possible :)

    thanks in advance

I'd love to get the Touchstone out of nerdiness but I don't really need it and should really be trying to save my money.... Right????

I'd love some info on 3rd party cases. The official one is nice but not exactly groundbreaking. Plus the girlfriend wants a different coloured case for her one

Note: haven't looked in detail at shipping prices or if they ship over here, etc, but they have availability for some items.

I got one today (no touchpad yet). Feels fairly sturdy but is more rubbery than it is leathery. I don't know how well it functions as a stand yet though, will post up if I get a touchpad.

Picked up one of the official cases in Argos this morning. Doesn't show online and in the shop the machines tell you to go to the counter. I thought that there would absolutely be no chance but they had one in stock.

No don't think so, I have both and the TouchPad is thicker than the Ipad and slightly different shape.

I got the stone charger for €40 (half price) and Touchpad cover for €25 in PC World when they were selling the HPs.

Haven't had a chance to even open it yet. Lost enough time this week in the Touchpad Hunt - need to catch up on work.

Can anyone tell me is there a protective sticker on the touchpads screen? It looks like there is from the way it attracts smudges and it feels sort of coarse around the button but when I tried to peel it back from the corner I stopped as I wasn't sure if I was trying to remove a layer of the screen.

Running out tried in Dundalk but none available when went to the counter.

Any availability on the touchstone charger in Ireland? Argos.ie doesn't seem to let you check stock of it in stores for some reason.

the 3rd party ones above on Amazon look decent enough, should come to less than €20 delivered and less waiting time...

Right so, got mine today from Elara. I like it so far, it's a very snug fit and a non-slip feel to it, the touchpad felt too slippy to me without it. The stand action feels secure (it uses Velcro, rather than the magnets in the ipad cover). For me the real win was that the touchstone will still work with the case on (I don't have one yet, but I do think I'll end up with one so..)

It has the non-slip plastic feel all over, so it doesn't feel very plush or anything - it probably looks a lot cheaper than it actually is (never mind was - I paid €26).

thanks paddy:-) dont think there's any left in store though so will have to get a third party one from amazon and hope it fits ! For someone asking above, I know for a fact there's touchstones in cork Argos, don't know how many though would also try pc world stores that's where I got mine! Well worth the 40 euro price tag just for the nerdyness of it!

Went in to Argos on Jervis St this evening, on one of the catalogue machines it said pay at till for touchstone and the case, but at the till they said there was none available in any store in the country.

These have been out all day afaik but one case has popped back in stock on elara if anyone is interested. €29 + (a steep imo) €8 p&p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 223 ✭✭bifl

On a separate note has anyone gone down the road yet of a screen protector. I can pick one up from eBay for about a fiver shipped. Just wondering does my new bundle of joy deserve something a bit better !!

In all seriousness is it worth spending a few quid more, in particular to cut down on the glare or are they all really the same. At the same time I'm not going spending 20quid on a piece of plastic

Thanks you for your contribution

More than 4+ available now. It's up to the individual if it is worth pursuing or not....

Not sure - I suspect the dimensions are somewhat different - I'd guess if it's something relatively loose (the sock style ones for want of a better term) it will be OK, but anything fitted is unlikely to work.

Elara have more cases in stock, but they have put the price up to €29 (with an extra €8 for shipping if you can't collect in park west).
