Hi everyone, new to the boards and I was wondering if there is anyone has any advice or recommendations. I was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer 3 years ago. I have finally finished with all the treatments and hospital visits, (checkups only twice a year) and have decided to clean up my act. I am very overweight and don't exercise. I have been given the blessing of my doctor's and joined the Gym. I would love some advice from any other cancer survivors or fitness pros. :)

If you want to be healthy for years to come, you should read the Paleo Solution by Robb Wolfe and The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson.

First off, congrats on your victory :)
Secondly, well done on choosing to get fit.
I think you should get a PT, they'll make sure you get a programme that will work for you.
If you fancy going solo, start with the basics (walking/stretching) and build up to some light jogging over a 4 week period.
Then begin to introduce some resistance work (nothing mad, just some light weights).
PT will give you guidance on this, highly recommend you do some sessions.

Lazymamma well done on getting started.

Firstly i would say to you to look at your local area and the cancer care resources available to you post treatment. There are a number of centres around the country that offer exercise classes for patients in remission. look up cancer care west as an example

I would stress getting the advice of physical therapists of some of the team that worked with you during and post treatment, they will know first hand the limitations that your facing

There would be special considerations for exercise post treatment so it would be important to ask any personal trainer how they would factor these into your exercise.

A screening for exercise contraindications should take place before exercise testing to include a medical history, physical examination and a complete blood count, lipid profile and pulmonary function test. (peak flow or idealy spirometry tests)

Would be interested to hear what resources you have available to you.
