Cheap Irish based online backup service which works well with UPC?

Any ideas? My major gripes with the likes of Dropbox / Sugarsync etc is that my upload speeds are averaging about 30KB/s and not using my UPC 5Mbit/s upload at all.

I know cheap and Irish probably don't mix well but I'd love to know what's available out there that I might have missed.

I'd be looking to backup approx 20GB of data.

Based on this, UPC's normal contention ratio is 17:1.

Doing a bit of number crunching, 5Mbit/s = 625KBytes/s, which at a contention ratio of 17:1 is ~37KBytes/s.

I'd check to make sure you're regularly able to upload to other web-based services with significantly faster transfer rates before committing to paying for an online backup service.

There are a few Irish based solutions

    www.keepitsafe.ie

You can definitely upload at a much faster speed than you currently are. See upload transfer rate on picture attacheduploadspeed.jpg

Are you on the same package as the OP, though? It seems a bit unlikely for a service offering a 5MBit upload rate to ever achieve 25Mbit upload rates, even at periods of low usage...

No, our client that achieves the above upload rate is on a faster line.

My point was that upload rates are not throttled by all backup providers.

Ah, right, fair point in that case.

I'd be surprised if the OP's problem is down to their backup provider TBH, given that the upload rate they're getting is about what you'd expect when fully contended.

I can see what you are saying however the net is littered with customer comments highlight poor upload speeds pointing towards the providers "possibly" throttling.

Doubtfully tis Irish based, But you can map you skydrive on your pc and use the 25gb of free space there for backup.

Bit long winded but the price is right.
