25 euro like most people I'd say. Never heard of anyone winning 5k/10k/100k on them in Ireland.

i think they are a waste of money, i've seen too many people get too reliant on winning on them and get addicted...its too easy to get like that

The parents of a guy I went to college with won AU$88,000 in 1988. They bought a fab beach house and when we graduated a group of us went out and stayed at it for a week. It was up near Byron Bay and was the best farewell to your college years you could imagine. Great times.

Personally, I have never won more than a fiver on them, although I don't really buy them very often.

    I know a guy but he does'nt know anybody......ok I don't know anybody:(

I won £100 years ago when the hampers and roses first came out, I thought I was rich. I had to check the ticket about five times to make sure there was enough zeros on each amount. That christmas everytime I bought one of those scratch cards I won a box of roses, I must of won about ten of them in the space of a month.

I got a scratch card with some other stuff in a small shop, Scratched the card in the car an saw i had won 5 euro so went back in and handed it to the same shopkeeper who could not scan it on his machine and therefore would not pay it out to me as "You could have got that anywhere"???. Asked him what i could do with it, he said go into town and cash it in the GPO ......could not be arsed for a fiver think it's still in the glove box

i won 200 punts on a scratchcard when I was about 8 or 9 (dad bought it for me). Give my mum dad and sister 50 punts each and bought cannon fodder for the sega mega drive with my 50. Should have kept the lot for myself:D

Scratch cards are sadly a rip off.

Theres meant to be a ruling/law in place that they "have" to offer a certain total back in prizes to what revenue the scratchcards make. But thats all BS. In reality, the prizes that people win have to be only a small percentage of what they make. (the world we live in after all)

For example. 50,000 €2euro scratch cards get printed. Now with selling them on to shops, printing costs and shipping (etc) of cards. the Irish Lotto still probably makes what? 1.25euro per card (for example) So over all, thats roughly around €75,000 euro the Irish Lotto made. Now time for prizes. How much of that 75k would go towards prizes? ... what 20%? 25%? Lets be honest like. So no wonder there is such a low figure of people winning any decent figure. Majority of prizes would be 2euro / free scratch cards / 5 euro etc. So much more people win little prizes feeling they could be lucky and win one of the bigger ones.

Possibly true of the private suppliers but the vast majority of scratch cards here are done by the National Lottery which is non-profit.

Only other company that comes to mind is the Rehab ones and that's the same scéal. I don't mind buying them versus other gambling cos at least the few quid goes to charity or good causes if you don't win.

Even tho the National lottery is non-profit. That doesnt mean much IMO. Like alot of charities "whats left over" goes to others. Of course adminstration, wages etc gets paid first.

I wouldnt be suprised the prize-pools on these tickets is really low. So the higer-ups in the national lottery get their fat paychecks and yearly bonuses. While still remaining non-profit. But hey, thats business I guess :)

Bought a €2 card four months ago for the thrill. Got a free one out of that. Got the second card then and won €4.

Nice one I thought to myself so I went to the pub later that evening for a smug pint of guinney.

My mam won £50 on one when we were small. Was such a big thing back then! She was able to take me, my dad and my two brothers to Dublin Zoo on the train from Cork for the day with it.

I'd say the most I ever won was €8.

I won £1000 about fifteen years ago. Bought the card with petrol and was scratching the card while driving off, nearly crashed when I scratched the last “£1000”.

Also won €50 from a scratch card that a friend put in with a birthday card for me, he was sick when I told him:o.

Must have bought hundreds of the fcukin things and never won more than a tenner. Get a bit of a kick out of them all the same though, the same every time that millionaire raffle thing comes out, have bought at least 2 tickets every time that draw has been on. Only need to win once though;)

I've never actually bought a scratch card.

Just never occurred to me to do so.

A girl in my class, her aunty won a couple of thousand a few years back but she was already stinking rich so it didn't make a difference to her.

    I hate life.

£50 punts x 6/7 times over the course of a summer.

I had an addiction so I'm pretty sure i spent twice what I won but friends use to joke I was a lucky git...never win anything on the lotto apart from a few quid here and there these days. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,812 ✭✭✭✭sbsquarepants

Why would they need to record him showing how he won on a scratch card? We all know what to do. Buy card, scratch it.

I actually did crash while scratching a scratch card. Got it off a girl at the traffic lights on the way to work, scratched it a while later, didn't notice the traffic stopping and drove into the arse of the car in front. Cost me €350 quid:mad: Although in all honesty, i deserved it for being so stupid!
Didn't win on the card either.

I've never won more than €5 on a scratch card, but many times have won that amount 2 or 3 times in a row. I'd buy more cards with the fiver and then find in one of them I had won €2 or €5 - strange.
