This Government Is Out Of Control! Now You'll Pay More For Alcohol!

Just when you thought the old draconian bastards had left the building, in comes another shower of tits...

So, the government has asked the private sector to reduce costs to become more competitive, yet the public service pay is skyrocketing as we speak. A new tax is being ushered in now and suddenly we've been given a kick up the arse with new stealth payments. Listen to this new ****e...
Three Statutory Instrudents sealed on Aug 3 increase the costs of availing of court services. They come into force on Monday next 22.8.11

    Some of these increases
    are substantial

I.e an application by pubs in a a particular place for an area exemption to either open late or open earlier has been brought from €135 to €750 an increase of 450%

There are other increases of more than100%.

The cost for a photocopy of a document which was already an exorbitant €5 has been brought to €15 - a huge and unjustified incrrease for a simple photocopy

An application to enter judgement in the High Courtfor judgeme goes from €30 to €60

An application in District Court to remove disqualification on a driving licence goes from €20 to €52

Government are asking the private sector to keep down costs and be competitive - yet wthout any d
iscussion they put these incrreases thru at a time of year when they are not expected to be noticed.
They're demanding nightclub owners and publicans to pay over double the amount of money to open late...

    It's a disgrace.

They know the outrage that will come that they're not even announcing legislation until it's been passed. All of this is complete secrecy.

How are they making changes? I thought they were on holiday?

And no link? Sounds made up.

Really? It's so strange because my payslip keeps showing less money yet people keep telling me I'm making more.

Good. Help to pay for the cost of cleaning up the litter and public order policing.

What could possibly be your agenda if you're calling for such an important thread to be locked? I posted it in the wrong section, then asked for it to be deleted. What is wrong with that? it's all over politics.ie This thread cannot be locked until we get to the bottom of it. Ring your constituency TD and ask...see if they lie to your face.

Don't think this will make that €15 box of Stella in Superquinn any more expensive, so put me down in the 'don't care' corner.

Is this what you're whingeing about? a good club will pull in €750 in under an hour on a Saturday night, am I missing something?

I don't see the problem. Like i said, it will help to pay for public order policing and the costs of processing public order offences through the courts. Clubs make bucketloads of cash on late openings.

it's quite stupid really because I stopped going to pubs and nightclubs because their prices on drinks and entry fees were way too much so they lost a punter there. so if they keep putting up prices people are not going to purchase anything and the businesses will just go bust fast. it's a no-brainer, so why increase prices as this will only turn the consumer away and damage their business.

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at. it sounds like you believe somehow that this is being done in our best interests? It is not. The government are robbing us to give it to their friends in high places.

Not saying what the OP posted is not true, however I like to read the actual fuller details if there is any additionally available at source.

There's nothing about increasing prices. Clubs can easily absorb this cost.

How are they robbing us? They are charging nightclubs. And it goes back into the government coffers which will pay for the courts services. The rest of the increases will also go to pay for courts.

Publicans and nightclub owners should dig into the mountain of cash they gouged out of their customers over the years instead of using this to yet again raise prices.

Hold on - nightclubs can absorb this? do you really think business absorb things like this? More like pass it on, and probably get a little more for themselves in the process.

VAT was dropped, most places absorbed that. Excise on alcohol goes up - so does the pint. Absorbing only goes one way. If you go to a pub (late bar) or club, you will be paying for it, don't you worry.

That's up to them. If they want to use it as an excuse to raise their prices that's for them to decide. They make plenty of money to be easily able to absorb this hike. Have you ever seen a town after closing time. Busiest time for Gardaí for sure. And then there's the cost of bringing drunken idiots to court; legal aid, Garda time etc... Nightclubs don't contribute to this but reap the rewards. About time they paid to clean up a bit.

The reason they are sh*t as you say is because the cannot plough back funds into upgrading their business. Go to London and you will see solid investment in club venues, IE the best of pro equipment and DJ's. Over here it is second rate because the business that run them are taxed to fcuk.

That's bull. If anything is preventing the pub business from being competitive it's the Vintners Association.

    EDIT: But it's mostly greed.
