    First! \0/

Ne'er mind... just read your post >_>

Looking forward to the game this afternoon. Hoping for an improvement on the Sunderland game where we completely lost the run of the second half. Hope Aqua is there or there abouts as we need someone in the middle that can hang onto possession

Not just phantom pages issue, has wider ranging consequences than that but pretty much yes, that or just cut them every 10k posts, if it gets that big in a month we will have to start a new one anyway.

what i think, but that said...kenny is a smarter man than me :D

would be surprised if aqua didnt make the bench today for that extra burst for the last 15-20 mins.

with skrtle back as centre back cover kelly should start on the right with flanno one the bench...

im sure kenny will make it clear to him its not as a direct result of his mistake last week if im right.

Took me a second there, I was thinking that was an ambitious formation with a flat four up top.

Would like to see that but doubt it.

Do you not think that Kenny could throw out another curve-ball and pick Flanagan again? He obviously likes and rates him and may not want to destroy his confidence by axing him because of last week.

Suarez will have the roaming roll behind Carroll as per usual.

Still think Meireles might start in the Adam role, 4-2-3-1

I'd see that, but with Suarez pushed up more, in behind Carroll (ooh matron :pac:) as a link man.

i was fancying flanno all along too...but with the return of squirtle thatll rule him out i think..

my reasoning is that i think flanno started against sunderland so kelly could be kept as cover for the centre

Wouldn't be surprised if he picks Kuyt ahead of him. It'll be interesting to see how Kenny reacts to it. Kelly might get the nod as it's still a nod to young, home grown players. Nice to have the options especially if Johnson is fit.

probably based on the picture of suarez on the train...
doni was there...speaking italian..why was sitting at a table with maxi, lucas and suarez...all spanish speakers....

so the logical conclusion for the rumour mill is...

aquiliani must be moving to an italian club :p

If this is true then it'll be a disaster for this thread.

Means he'll become the noose to hang around Kenny's neck when LFC have a bad game and loads of posts saying he shouldn't have sold Aqua, and KK has no idea etc.

Wish he'd picked him for a couple of games, if he plays bad then it'll be obvious to us all and he can move him on without debate, and if he plays well then we all win.
Moving him on without him being picked is going to add 'Aquilani' to the
'Is Carroll worth £35m' and 'Net Spend' classic thread discussion list!

Or Aquilani tried to shag Doni's missus years ago and Doni hasn't forgiven him!

Yes, saw that, but also seen fees of £28m mentioned. Hard to know which to believe.

So much for people here saying he could be got for less than Downing.

Interesting to see how does, after so much hype about him.

I fancy him to score against Arsenal, Arsenal will be to busy with Carroll to focus on Agger who is also good at the crosses iirc

Would be a handy bet to put on imo. Scored 2 goals in preseason that came from corners. He's not the best at attacking the ball from corners, none of our centre backs are apart from the Greek, but he gets into those positions where he could take advantage if the keeper spills the ball or the defender doesn't clear it.

Can't really blame him if he wants to play first team.

If there was ever a young player to leave Liverpool in recent history that we may regret letting go then IMO Pacheco might be it .

His real first team run was probably at the worst time in the clubs history .

If he is giving first team football week in - week out then I think he will start to show his potential .

But in Kenny I trust .

I wish him all the best .

Just reading on the Sky Sports website that Paul Merson predicts a 3-1 win for Liverpool. Bit optimistic for an Arsenal man

Nasri could start, hold up over agent fees or something!

Strongly worded rebuke from Ayre on the stadium issue and well said:

Liverpool FC in row with government over stadium decision delays - News - Liverpool FC - Liverpool Echo
THE Government today demanded Liverpool FC speed up its decision on whether to stay at Anfield or move to a new ground on Stanley Park.
Tory housing minister Grant Shapps has written to LFC managing director Ian Ayre saying the delay is causing unnecessary uncertainty for the local community that had been left in limbo.
Mr Ayre today reacted angrily to Mr Shapps intervention.
“It is extremely disappointing that Mr Shapps should publicly point the finger at Liverpool FC and claim that they alone are delaying the regeneration of the local area, when he is fully aware of the impact of central government cutbacks on the whole city,” said Mr Ayre.
“In particular, the demise of the Housing Market Renewal Initiative seven years into a 15-year programme in Anfield has created huge uncertainty for the local community which dwarfs the effect any delay on a stadium has had.”
Mr Ayre said Liverpool was fully aware of its responsibilities and had invested £14m of its own money in the regeneration of Stanley Park and other infrastructure improvements.
“If Mr Shapps had taken the time to learn anything about our City, our football club and our community, he would know that we all work together and pull together and we only try to score points on the football pitch, not in the media.
“A considerable amount of work continues to identify the right solution to the stadium question.
“However, this is not a decision that can be made swiftly, it will be made at the right speed that gives the correct solution for Liverpool Football Club in the long term interests of its fans.
“Mr Shapps should understand the complexity of that process and the need to properly arrive at the right decision for our fans, our community and the club itself.
“Mr Shapps would be better off upping his own game, rather then telling us how we might improve ours.”
Liverpool council leader Joe Anderson also defended the Reds.
Cllr Anderson said: “We would like LFC to make a speedy decision but at the same time we are mindful that its a complex issue.
“We are working with them in a positive way.”

Officially the council has set the end of September as the deadline for the club to make a decision on whether or not to take an option of a 999-year lease on Stanley Park.
But Cllr Anderson has previously indicated to the ECHO that this will be extended if the club can show it is making progress.
Cllr Anderson said: “I think it is a bit rich for Grant Shapps to single out Liverpool for holding up regeneration in Anfield.
“One of the reasons why there is inertia in regeneration is because of the way the government axed funding for the Housing Market Renewal Initiative (HMRI).”
Last year the government pulled the HMRI programme, which was hoped would breathe new life into the Anfield housing market. The council is still attempting to find a solution to complete the project.
Mr Shapps said he had been motivated to speak out after a recent visit to the city in which he saw how residents feel left down.
He said whether the club decides to stay at Anfield or move to a new 60,000 seater stadium in Stanley Park is of crucial significance to the area.
The minister said the club could lead a resurgence in private sector enterprise.
“On my visit last month I saw for myself the impact that the decision yet to be taken by Liverpool Football Club will have on the area, and how much the local people in Anfield need certainty and a definite decision on the future of their neighbourhood.
“In the interests of the wider community, the club needs to make a swift decision on whether they plan to build a new stadium or stay where they are – either way the residents around Anfield deserve to know.
“The delay is causing unnecessary uncertain for the community. Local residents are living in limbo.
“The council has already asked for extra time for the lease on Stanley Park by six months to allow the club time to explore all options, but the quicker Liverpool FC makes a decision, the more options they have.”
In a rather “pun-heavy” end to his statement, Mr Shapps added: “It’s down to them not to score an own goal by delaying a decision on the club’s future home once more and ensure the council never has to walk alone in their attempts to regenerate the local area.”

Charlie Adam Article in todays Guardian
    wrote:
The Wikipedia entry for Charlie Adam covers every personal detail and statistic to be expected for a Liverpool and Scotland international football player. The one for Charlie Sr, born in 1962, spans three sentences.

The club list reads thus: St Johnstone, Brechin City, Dundee United, Partick Thistle, Forfar Athletic, Arbroath. A hint of the former forward's ability is that Jim McLean, hardly known for signing poor players, recruited him for a fine Dundee United side.

There is no dramatic tale of woe associated with what happened next. Rather, Adam Sr worked in a bar for years and spent Saturdays on the terraces of Dundee's Dens Park instead of playing football. His biggest crime may have been a lack of application, a failing his son is not of a mind to repeat.

For a while, the career path of Liverpool's £7m purchase looked ominously familiar as loan spells took him to Ross County and St Mirren as recently as 2006. What has followed is comic book material.

"I want to learn from the mistakes my dad made," Adam says. "Whatever he didn't achieve in football, I want to. I've told him that, he knows that. I wouldn't be on the pitch as a Liverpool player if it wasn't for him and the rest of my family; all the people who have supported me on this road, I owe them a lot."

And what a road it has been. If this is indeed the plan, Adam is going the right way about it. Some in Scotland still looked on with disbelief as the midfielder – who was ridiculed at times when donning Rangers colours – became one of the Premier League's key signings of the summer.

The most commonly held sceptical thought about Adam is that he will wilt under the weight of expectation on Merseyside. That sense is endorsed by his struggles at Rangers, against the 25-year-old's brilliant form at unfashionable Blackpool.

Adam knows that a famous list of Scots have starred for Liverpool; at least he need not worry about emulating anyone else who wore No26. That shirt number, the date of the birthday of his son, Jack, is just one thing which makes Adam stand apart.

When asked why he should succeed now but not at Rangers, Adam's reply is instant. It is also a dig at those Ibrox managers who did not appreciate his talent. "Because I am going to get an opportunity to play here. I'm going to get a fair crack of the whip here. That's it.

"Liverpool is a massive club, one of the biggest in the world. Going to Asia in pre-season was an eye-opener, seeing not hundreds of people turning out to see us but thousands. There is pressure every day at Liverpool. Training, playing and being under the kind of spotlight you get at a club of this size. I am just delighted to get the opportunity to show I'm capable of handling all that."

The move could have happened in January. The steadfast refusal of Karl Oyston to sell Adam to Liverpool in the final hours of the transfer window frustrated the player who had successfully challenged the Blackpool chairman over a bonus issue months earlier.

"I was disappointed on the day, that it never happened," Adam admits. "But if you ask Ian Holloway or any of the Blackpool players, I never let it get to me from the first of February until the end of the season. I kept going, kept playing both to try and win as many points for Blackpool and to make sure I remained in Liverpool's thoughts."

There is a theory that Adam knew he would end up at Anfield, regardless of the impasse. The reality is different, with Adam completely unsure if Kenny Dalglish would revive his interest until another formal Liverpool move was made in early July. "I had months of limbo, genuinely," he says. "I thought maybe I had missed the boat; there are so many players that Liverpool could go for at any one time. If I had a bad spell, Liverpool could easily have moved on. I just count myself as fortunate that they didn't forget about me and came back in."

Adam's only experiences of Dalglish had come through watching footage of the legendary former Celtic, Liverpool and Scotland striker before the pair teamed up at Anfield. "I didn't know much about Kenny; it was difficult for me to know because he had been out of the game for a number of years. It is just terrific for me to get the opportunity to come here and work with him. He lets the lads play, he is relaxed and is a real man-manager. To say I've played under a legend like Dalglish is a massive thing – not many people can say that."

Adam is one part of a notable summer spending spree by Dalglish. Last Saturday's home draw with Sunderland was not the start to the Premier League campaign Liverpool sought, but there is clear optimism at a club who have been trophy-starved for longer than their status suggests they should be.

"We haven't set a marker," Adam says of Dalglish's transfer moves. "The manager is here because, before, the team didn't perform as well as Liverpool expect as a club. The owners have backed what the manager wants – and the supporters want – with money. I think that money has been spent wisely, on quality players.

"If we get a few good results to start the season, you never know what can happen. But there is no point in us shooting our mouths off saying we want to finish here or there. We will finish where we deserve to finish, without shouting about it. We have targets, of course we do."

Which means? "I genuinely believe we have a squad here that's capable of challenging. We want to get back winning things, we owe the Liverpool supporters that."

Given what he has achieved since leaving Glasgow for Lancashire, initially on loan in February 2009, it would be folly for anyone to bet against Adam achieving his next set of goals. "I want to win trophies," he says. "I wouldn't have signed for Liverpool if I didn't think I could do that here.

"And I watched Scott Brown win his 25th cap for Scotland against Denmark. I want to do that and more as well, win as many caps as possible for my country."

Adam has had to dismiss an early sense of awe towards those with whom he shares a training pitch. The most endearing thing about Adam's mind-set is that he remains grounded. Far more so than many of those with just a fraction of his wealth and talent.

"When I signed, there was a bit of that [awe], but I'm used to it now. They are team-mates to me now, they are no different to me. I know some of these guys are worldwide names, but we are all the same – Liverpool players who want the best for the club. There aren't any big egos around the place."

While Adam has his father in mind, Ian Holloway is perhaps a family member in all but name. Adam and the Blackpool manager struck up an immediate bond at Bloomfield Road and with the success of the team, Holloway and Adam became intrinsically linked. The sad finale is that Blackpool did not secure Premier League safety before Adam departed.

"We have spoken a lot," Adam says of his former boss. "He has a tough job given the players who have left, but he still has a good chance of bringing Blackpool back up. I would love to see that happen.

"If you play regularly under a manager, that gives you confidence. I had that under Ian Holloway. I have great respect for him and I'd like to think I repaid his loyalty to me in some way. My move to Liverpool shows that he is a good manager. All of the players he has lost have gone back to the Premier League. He should take satisfaction from that. And I know he will be proud of me."

Holloway is not the only one. Adam can derive satisfaction from that.

Shyte. Merson went for us? That sod is normally slurring out something negative about us and is usually wrong when he does so.

Maybe Arsenal stopped giving him free tickets to the ground or something, because he has shown ober the years that anything he spouts about footy bears no resemblance to the topic he is on about in terms of facts.

They should just leave him and Charlie Knickerless* is a corner and ignore them.

*Will never ever ever ever ever forgive Knickerless for 1987.

And Downing better not think that he can get away with only providing a few assists today. I wasnt a hattrick from him as well as some lovely parallel parking in the players car park. None of that parking at a slight angle shyte or wanting a full space to himself.

Fcuk off!! What's wrong with suarez, how they gonna fit downing kuyt and henderson in? Actually Kuyt must be up front so. Balls had Suarez first goalscorer.

Edit: Why has noone started a match thread yet, I would but don't know how to do those fancy logo's etc.
