Seems proposals are in the works to also disband the Reserves.

There is some major campaigning going on by the PDF to have the reserves disbanded. There has been major paycuts and hardship to our troops it appears, and they are lobbying for the Reserves to be disbanded or downsized drastically before anymore more cuts, relocations or downsizing comes to the main armed forces.

It is a fair point they are making, I know personally, as a tax payer, I cannot fathom the justification of a reserve force in times of economic crisis, but it wasn't until yesterday, having a read and a listen to the radio, that I realised how much segregation there are between the two, and how their appears to be so much spite and hatred from the PDF towards the reserves :O

I could be wrong on this but my understanding is that the allowance is given to allow female soldiers (/sailors/airwomen) to buy their own sports bras, because it saves the state the expense of having to do the whole tender & procurement process for what is actually PPE, and which female servicemembers therefore have a right to be issued with.

The total amount of money is less than a couple of thousand euro a year, and some lazy news outlet including this allowance to sex up a news story in the context of millions being cut from health services is an insult both to everyone in the PDF and the thousands of sick people and their carers (both professional and lay) who will be affected by these cuts no matter how hard everyone tries.

I'm a big supporter of the TD above, even though not from my constituency. He is one of a handful in the Dail with actual qualifications and experience in how to deal with the IMF, national economics and finance.

As he exposed during an interview with George Hook, after immense pressure, he went in thinking he would be consulting the government, when infact he realised its nothing but a massive clique of poorly qualified old men rehashing old failed ideas.

He has put forward some CRACKING ideas, as a independent TD. Fine Gael and Labour had not one tangible idea viewable to the public during their election, only spreading fear and shock images to gain support from a population who felt they just had to vote for them.

An interesting point he made in a blog post last week was that while yes, the bankers will of course take blame, they only acted out of the freedom and loose regulations that our government did nothing to correct.

He also very interesting pointed out ( and remember, this is a man who in the private sector held a position negotiating with the IMF when they would enter a country) that those who we have sent to negotiate on our behalf have been crying under qualified and out of their depth, which has ended in the above.

George Hook was very adamant in mentioning how alot of analysts have indicated that if Donnelly had have been brought into the circle with his expertise early on, he could have had a drastic impact in negotiating a better deal.

    To which he responded
George....I don't want to start another scathing launch on the Government which is becoming all to easy and common of late, but the simple facts are that I offered my services and consultation and received a very patronising " a we are grand thanks" and when I put forward a report pin pointing some ideal candidates within both public and private sector, capable of performing with the utmost proficiency in negotiations with the IMF,I was directed to leave it with a secretary and have been told it never got looked at.

What do people expect when people like Donnelly, who are adequately equipped to benefit, deal and consult on the current situation and crisis, and has a proven track record as such, is sidelined to the periphery.

Our current Minister for Finance, was a school teacher with no experience in economics or finance. His only education is a HDip in economics. He has served as a minister for 4 different departments indicating he has no expertise and is just a yes man, and when giving a position of relative importance requiring decisiveness and decision, in 2002, he led Fine Gael to one of their worst performance at the polls in recent decades.

    What...do...we...expect...

Ready or not, an army of zombies is headed to San Diego, and they're invited.
It is part of a major counterterrorism training that will include more than 1,000 people. In the movies, zombies are hungry and relentless, which is exactly why Brad Barker invited them to San Diego.

I watched it up until about 5 minutes, and I don't see the problem or any "racism".

And in fairness, he is just saying what all the retailers and a lot of players here have been saying for years, granted in a more blunt and American way.

And I'd say it hits home harder in the US, considering they have a MASSIVE retailing infrastructure for specifically airsoft, let alone their army surplus.
