Zip all the way up?

Ok, this might be kind of an odd question, but I was working out last night and noticed that my trackie pants have a zip on the outside of both legs that goes from the bottom of the leg up to about the top of the thigh. And just stops there. My first thought was that I could convert them into shorts, but there's no other means of doing that, so I was stumped. I can understand a zip that goes a little bit up so you can slip them on over runners or what have you, but up to the groinal area?

Anyone got a similar pair and know what it's for?

Exactly what the shorter zip was for, but easier.

It's a big feature on cantos. It just makes them easier and quicker to put/get off when wearing boots.
